Fedora :: Perl Bot Script Ending And Restarting Every Hour?
Dec 31, 2010
I had an aging RH 7.3 server that I decided was time to upgrade the hardware and software as well. I chose Fedora 13.This server runs an ircd with several bots connected to it. The bot in question is a perl bot based on the old dreambot script. On the RH 7.3 server, it ran forever. On the new Fedora 13 server, it does an EOF and restarts every hour, exactly one hour after it's been started. Is there something limiting the time that a perl script can execute?

I recently decided to try KDE4 and would like the change the clock on the panel to display 12 hour format and not the default 24hour format but i can not find where to change this option currently the clock looks like the attached picture. Gnome has this option and I would like to see it in KDE if it exists in the default clock. I am willing to replace the default KDE clock with a seperate widget if one exists for this.

I need to change the time displayed in the task bar from a 24 hour clock to a 12 hour format. I could not find the relevant settings in OpenSuse 11.2 and same is the case for 11.3 as well.
how to make the change? I have tried System Settings ---> Computer Administration ---> Date & Time; but I was not able to make the desired change.
Similarly, I have a digital clock widget that shows GMT + 5.5 hours and I need to change that to 12 hour format as well.

I just switched over to Lubuntu, and so far, it's been great. It's rendering quite well with my laptop, even though the fan is constantly running.I've had some small annoyances that I haven't been able to figure out. How do I get the power button and/or other related actions to the 'start' menu? Is there a way to drag and drop applets like in Ubuntu? How do I setup default brightness like in Ubuntu? How do I change the time to normal US time (12 hour instead of 24 hour)How do I change the time to a 12-hour instead of 24-hour?Is there a software center?

I hope I won't get bashed too much on my first post here. The problem I'm experiencing seems to be well known, yet I haven't come across a definite solution to it while searching the forums. I've got an external drive connected to my laptop via eSATA. When I want to mount it as a normal user from GUI level, I'm required to supply the root password since apparently the system's policy doesn't allow external drives partitions to be mounted.
The closest solution to what I would like to achieve is given by giulix in this post. Yet, with the polkit-gnome-authorization utility removed from Fedora 12 (at least so I've heard on mailing lists), it's difficult to find out where to start in terms of policy editing. What I would like to have is being able to mount this volume as a normal user from GUI level. I know I could just add an entry to /etc/fstab, but it just seems so old-fashioned and tacky, and besides, it's not, um, "dynamic" and wouldn't utilize hal and dbus, so I wouldn't have an icon on the desktop. (it's not really the reason, I'd just like to have things done the way they should be right now).

I am going through cygwin's XWin.exe (XWin - queary <hostname>) to start a remote session with a RHEL 5.5 workstation. I have run gdmsetup on the worksation to allow the remote connection. Starting the remote session goes off without a problem. After about two hours, it just exits and I have to start over. This is a problem since all my gui's are killed and I have some important processes running.
/var/log/syslog/messages shows:
Jun 15 16:49:53 <host> gconfd (root-12016): SIGHUP received, reloading all databases
Jun 15 16:49:53 <host> gconfd (root-12016): Resolved address "xml:readonly:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.mandatory" to a read-only configuration source at position 0
Jun 15 16:49:53 <host> gconfd (root-12016): Resolved address "xml:readwrite:/root/.gconf" to a writable configuration source at position 1
[code]....
There must be a 2 hour timeout set somewhere - maybe in a gconf xml file?

I have had some problems with Evolution. It sometimes freezes on start-up: I have to force it to quit. If I open "System Monitor", and end the evolution-alarm-notify task, then I can restart evolution successfully. I therefore suspect it is that which is causing trouble. What is it and how do I stop it?

I'm running a fully updated Fedora 15.In Evolution's calendar, my days are limited to 12 hours: from 0:00 to 11:45, always.Under preferences->Calendar and Tasks->General, I have "day begins" as 07:00, and "day ends" as 23:30. Changing these numbers has no effect whatsoever. Selecting "12 hour" under "time format" also does nothing.I REALLY hope this isn't a deliberate change by the Evolution developers. My days have normally consisted of more than 12 hours since I was three or four (I'd have to call my parents to ask). Jokes aside, what's going on and how do I change this?

I've had an issue in KDE where each time I restart my computer, I get 5-7 notifications that it wasn't able to connect to my ethernet port. (Or something close to that) I think it's trying to connect to my marvell port over and over. Has this happened with anyone else? I think I remember this happening with Ubuntu as well only it only tried to connect to that port once and then stopped trying.

Fresh 12 install. I did a yum install yum-fastestmirror and it took over 30 minutes to download its database, at a speed of 5-9 KB/s. Drove me nuts to wait 30 minutes to download a 60Kb program. Then after the install of fastest-mirror, I thought I was out of the woods, and launched a YUM UPDATE, and its still downloading fedora/filelists_db at 13KB/s. Estimated to take over 20 minutes. After that, it will be downloading the 500MB of stuff - hopefully at a better rate. Sigh!! No way to speed this up?

I'm running F13 with KDE 4.4.4 on my desktop PC. A few months ago I had occasion to run Kalarm (invoked via "Kickoff" app launcher). Ever since that time, the Kalarm icon appears in my KDE "system tray" after I login. I power down my PC when I'm finished using it for the day.In an effort to get rid of the Kalarm icon, I changed my KDE "session manager" (System settings -> Advanced -> Session Manager) settings to: "on login: start with an empty session". But the Kalarm icon still appears in my "system tray" after the next reboot/login.I've also tried right-clicking on the Kalarm icon and selecting "quit". The icon still re-appears after the next reboot/login.Why didn't the session manager setting: "on login: start with an empty session" get rid of the Kalarm icon?

The system will also crash when booting if it is not plugged in. However, this behaviour is not consistent. The crash is not really a crash so much as a complete system freeze, where not even the numlock light on the keyboard will turn on or off. I have to do a hard reset to get it going again. The last entry before the reboot in /var/log/messeges just shows eth0 link going down.

I recently reinstalled the B module for perl. Now I found out it didn't just do that, it installed a whole new copy of perl into /usr/local/bin/perl. When I type 'which perl' at the terminal, it says '/usr/local/bin/perl' instead of '/usr/bin/perl'. Normally, this wouldn't bother me. But I installed the one in local/bin without threading support. The one that comes with the system already is build with threading support, which is why I want to switch back to the system perl, and possibly remove the one in /usr/local/bin.
So how do I change it so that the result of 'which perl' returns as '/usr/bin/perl'? And what do I have to do to remove /usr/local/bin/perl?
The reason I need threading support is because I'm designing a file copier that copies several chunks of a file simultaneously to speed up the copying process. Guaranteed a useful script if it works.

My Foxconn nettop NT-A3500 crashed.
I install Ubuntu 11.04 and enter it. Then I install all available updates(in the update manager), activate AMD/ATI closed source GPU driver(under hardware drivers).
Then I do a reboot(sudo reboot). Then I login and do a VT switch to ex:tty2(CTRL + ALT + F2). Then I input the command "Localhost$ sudo pidof X"
will show the pid I have to kill(kill as root or sudo). Then I kill the pid and the NT-A3500 would crash(usually on first try).

I started simply to end some processes to see if this would help. Ending dbus-deamon and pushing the shutdown button seems to shutdown the computer and temporarily solve the problem. I see that there are better solutions, so I hope it wont occur again. The problem is, I also ended a lot of other processes, like the clock, trashcan, workpane buttons, the sound button, the WiFi button and the show desktop button (and maybe some more I don't know of. I thought these buttons would automatically reappear after a reboot, but this is not the case. I could add some buttons manually, but I still haven't found the sound button and the WiFi button. Also, when I minimalize a window, it doesn't show anywhere on any panel.Luckily I can use alt-tab

I'm new in perl programming and linux OS. What is the difference between perl and perl-devel? What does mean devel? Iwant to install Catalyst and before install as required I have to check if make, gcc and perl-devel are installed in my system. make and gcc are installed. But I have to install perl-devel. First I searched for make, gcc and perl-devel in YAST Software Management and search did not find perl-devel. I visited the software.opensuse.org and wrote "perl-devel" and searched. The result was many similar zips with a prefix perl-devel and I can not choose one for needed perl-devel.
