I am trying to install Mozilla Thunderbird email client. When I configure this program, it defaults to IMAP4-type incoming mail server (Port 143) instead of POP3 (Port 110) which my ISP uses. I did not see POP3 anywhere in the available dialog boxes. Is there any way to get Thunderbird to use POP3 in opensuse 11.2 Gnome Edition?
View 3 RepliesI'm run 10.10 desktop x64 and when I start setting up an account in thunerbird and enter name, email address and password in the first window and go on to the next next that window flashes pop and imap very quickly before stopping with a showing of imap. There is no edit button and I have not been able to find out how to set the protocol to pop3. Is there and error? Or am I missing something. I like thunderbird and would like to continue using it but my email providers only support pop3. I'm writing to this list because I'm thinking the problem may be specific to my version of ubuntu but I'm not sure.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm a newbie here but I have a question on how to make the connection between webmin and thunderbird via POP3. I have webmin set up and it is able to send and receive mail via webmin but when I enter the account details in thunderbird it cant find the settings for my mail account. I'm not exactly sure where I need to go in webmin to set it up to allow a connection from a client to allow the downloading of mail to the client. Would simply prefer to go to thunderbird to send and receive mail as opposed to logging into webmin then going to my mail.

I've done a lot of googling but so far no success have been able to configure sendmail with cyrus but can't connect the outlook to the server. I've come across certain documentation that says it requires to configure saslauthd. Is there any way i can create a mail server to which users can connect and download their mails. Shall i switch to postfix and dovecot instead? Is that easier?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have set up postfix and dovecot as per the Ubuntu anual and appear to have a functioning mail server.Using the sendmail command I can send mail and I receive mail in ~/Maildir. Using Thunderbird I can read any mails received but I can't send any mail from Thunderbird. I have tried with both STARTTLS and SSL/TLS and whilst I get the prompt for a password I keep getting the message my password for my server is wrong.I have ports 25, 465, 587 and 993. Is that all the right ports?When I ping my domain name it resolves to my router name whereas I believe it should resolve to my IP. Could there be a problem with my host file? I've had a play but to no avail.Here's the error in mail.log.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm somewhat familiar with Linux and became pretty decent at installing and configuring packages in Ubuntu. One of the things I was able to do with my tinkering was set up a functioning imap and pop3 mail server using dovecot-postfix. Now I'm experimenting with Slackware to get the feel of another distro, and I noticed that the mail server packages were already installed. On my client computer they can pick up that I have users configured and my mx record is working.
However it is failing to send mail saying that it is failing to relay the e-mail message and that the server responded 5.7.1 which was a problem that I was having in Ubuntu when first configuring the mail server. The fix was to edit the postfix.conf file and adding the localhost name of my server. Does anybody know of the file that I need to edit to make it possible to relay my messages with both pop3 and imap.
Seems quite a lot out there are finding it simple enough getting Thunderbird/Davmail to work, yet I've been at it for days now and still no luck. I've finally given up altogether with Evolution last week, as it seems from weeks of reading and trying, there just isn't a solution for it to work with Exchange Server mail. Yes I tried brutus and its web sites are down so to get additions such as Brutus Keyring is impossible. (its all a long story for another day)Evolution is now uninstalled and in the bin.So now Im into the 5th day trying with Davmail and Thunderbird to get emails from my company mail exchange server.I am sure Im going to have better luck with Thunderbird from what Ive read so far, but it still eludes me how to set it up with Devmail and the information Ive found so far is not very clear. I am sure I am just missing the most simplest step somewhere along the line.
Can someone please post a detailed instruction on how to configure both Thunderbird and Devmail to work together and also how to test if Davmails is working?I can easily access my company emails via OWA with URl... from my home internet, so no issue there.From the efforts of trying to get Evol to work where it came up with the error. "Evolution connector is not compatible with Exchange 5.5", I assume our company server is running an MS exchange server version 2003 or older.

Problem:
Clicking "Read Mail" does nothing, whereas clicking "Compose Message" opens Thunderbird as expected. Thunderbird is properly configured under "System Settings > Default Apps > Email Client".
Whereas, switching the default email client back to Kmail results in the Get Mail "read mail" and "compose message" functions properly opening Kmail in both instances.
This problem occurred for me before (when using openSUSE v11.1 and earlier versions of the apps), but I don't recall how I eventually solved it, or whether it was resolved via an update of one of the above apps/extensions. Nonetheless, I'm now confronted by the very same problem again.
Had to do a fresh install of 10.04 as upgrade went pear shaped. Now I cannot get hunderbird 3.0.4 to work just keeps timing out trying to access mail server pop.1and1.co.uk.Had to change some Firefox options to get it to work with any site other than google.Noticed that ping pop.1and1.co.uk sometimes gave a bad address until I disabled IPv6.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm running Dovecot version dovecot-1.0.7 on CentOS 5.4. I'm trying to create subfolders and I can't. I've tried Mac's mail application and Thunderbird; they both come up with an error, basically saying that the server doesn't support level one folders(subfolders). Squirrelmail can't create subfolders neither. I did some reading and thought that perhaps the problem lies in the /etc/dovecot.conf file; specifically with the "mail_location" directive. I currently don't have that directive active which means Dovecot uses defaults settings: saving users' mail in the %u/mail folder. Is there any way to configure Dovecot to use subfolders?

View 9 Replies View RelatedThrough yast2 I went to network services-->Mail server and took the standard option. My connection type is Permanent, filled in the outgoing server information and got to the incoming mail screen.
I told it to accept remote SMTP connections, open a port in the firewall and bypassed the downloading section since I just want to directly receive mail (I did however tell it I wanted a daemon to fetchmail). Told it to forward root's mail to me and a delivery mod of Directly. And finished.
The system sends mail out but I can't seem to receive any. What did I do wrong or what else do I need to do?

I need a gateway to direct web traffic to three separate servers/domains. I have been trying to do this with both a dns server and , (seperatly), apache server to forward requests. The dns server was a no go, and <i can only get apache to redirect http and ftp.
After Googling this ALOT, I believe that what I need is a gateway server to redirect my traffic to the 3 different servers. I have been reading about using using nat and iptables for this and was wondering if anyone had any advice/suggestions on this. The other thought I had was to use something like pfSense to create the gateway, but I am still reading the documentation, and I am unsure if this approach will work.
After reloading my OS my e-mail backups are all in Sbd and msf files, but Thunderbird 3.1.10 seems to only import e-mails from Communicator. Is there a solution for this to :enable me to import my e-mails?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI store all my personal files inclduing mail folders on my external usb drive which allows me to experiment with different distros freely.On each new install i point the mail settings to my mozilla folder. But Slackware 13 is throwing a lot of challenges my way. I am currently finding that I cannot copy recently arrived mail into my designated folders. The message says something about I am running out of disk space when in fact I have plenty of space.
I initially thought it might have something to do with file permissions. But definitely not in this case. The folder is owned by myself and has full permissions chmod 775.I am currently using windows which gives access to all my mail folders.
I have installed ubuntu 10.10 on my system after the installation i was found that their is no thunderbird were installed so, i download thunderbird & install using command sudo apt-get install thunderbird after that i have change the mail folder path to the previous mail data to access the old mails but after taking that action.i can send the mail but i am not able to download the mail from my pop mail server.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have 5 mailboxes provided by my ISP, which I have been using since 2005 with IMAP.1 month ago my Thunderbird client under both 9.04 (desktop) and 9.10 (laptop) started refusing to delete any incoming mail in one of my mailboxes (but not in the other 4).
Error message: "(...) Mail server responded: System I/O Error" 1 week ago, same problem for another mailbox (but not for the other 3), again affecting both machines. Evolution does delete incoming mail on these 2 mailboxes, no issues at all. Have googled, found only one solution (imap folder corrupt), but nothing makes sense.
Ok, so I've done a clean install of 10.04 over 9.1 and despite a couple of issues am very impressed. The thing that's currently bugging me most is that I can't set the chat/mail/broadcast panel menu thing to use thunderbird for mail. Is there any way to do this, or do I need to have thunderbird as a separate icon?
