View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm booting from disc on a compaq presario F700. Somehow, I messed everything up and now it's not reading that I have an OS. Which was previously vista. Now, when I boot from disc and try to install no partitions come up. I did open the blasted thing to clean it not too long but as far as I know, nothing dislodged. It is a laptop, btw. So, my kneejerk reaction is that the hard-drive got damaged or knocked loose. I also tried using kill-drive to erase it so I could start fresh, also no Hard drive detected. So, I'm going to try that. In the meantime I have another issue. When booting from disc I can't seem to get the drivers for my wireless adapter to install. I have them. Madwifi for AR5001X but I don't know where to put them via terminal.

View 6 Replies View RelatedJust upgraded to Lucid from Karmic. First thing I notice after restart is that I have no wireless. No big deal, I probably just need to re-install the proprietary drivers. I go to do this, and it gives me an error message, saying that the installation has failed. This has never happened before, and didn't happen when I upgraded from Jaunty to Karmic. I have an HP dv6 1230us and a Broadcom STA card.
I really need the internet to be working, and didn't anticipate that an upgrade, of all things, would screw it up...
I just re-installed Ubuntu 10.04 and was trying to install the Broadcom STA wireless driver. It worked for me before with no problems, but now when I try to install any proprietary driver (using System >>Administration >>Hardware Drivers) I get an error message that says: "You are not authorized to perform this action". I am the only user and I have administrator privileges, so I do not know why I am getting this.

My next course of action was to try to call GCC by name, but when searching for it in the terminal, all I get is:

Although the Add/Remove Software utility recognizes that I have GCC and all other standard compilers (but does not install them for some reason). So I think, okay, no problem, I'll just download the .rpm and other dependencies from a different computer and add them to my machine with a flash drive since I can't find them within my own OS.
I got gcc-4.5-1-4.fc14.x86_64.rpm, then these additional files as outlined in the error message:

The adapter works under W XP with no problems
The router, Linksys WRT54G sees the adapter in the dhcp table
lsusb lists the adapter.
I have copied the drivers from the install CD onto the desktop. I cannot figure out how to install or access those drivers for the installation. I tried to install the ndiswrapper from the software center, but the center shows it's available from the "main" source. I've looked in the package manager, but can't find it. When I go into terminal, and enter one of the suggested commands in the forums, it can't be located. I have a Belkin F5D8010 installed on this computer, and it works great under W XP. I want to try to get this installed, but until I can figure out installation of the ndiswrapper and how to access it, and get the drivers recognized, I'm at a standstill.
I absolutely love Lubuntu on VirtualBox. I installed it to my Compaq Mini CQ-10 without issue. However, there are no drivers for the Wireless or the NIC. Ok, so I go to Broadcom and download the drivers. But, when I try to install with the Makefile, Terminal tells me that make is not installed! Now, how do I install my drivers without make?

is how I added the RealTek 8188CE (or other RealTek drivers) to my newly installed Fedora 14 on a Toshiba Satellite L645D-S4056 laptop. This is assuming you have performed a regular install of Fedora 14 and have done nothing else.
1. Download the drivers at the RealTek download page here:URL...Search for your model in the "Download Search" box and selecting the Linux version of the software. In my case I typed in 8188CE and selected RTL8188CE (Software).
2.Extract the downloaded file into the desired location, open a terminal window, and navigate to the folder where you extracted the drivers.
3.Enable Sudo using the following command:su -echo "username ALL=(ALL) ALL" >> /etc/sudoers.Where "username" is your account username.
4.While still logged on as root, type in the following to install gcc and the kernel headers:yum install gcc kernel-devel kernel-headers patch make exit(From this point you really only have to follow the readme.txt instructions in the drivers folder, but I'll add them here)
5.Change to Super User sudo su
6. Compile driver from the source code make
7. Install the driver to the kernel make install reboot

View 3 Replies View RelatedWith nearly all Linux distributions (Ubuntu, Kubuntu, and Linux Mint being the exceptions), my system never seems to recognize that my laptop even has a wireless card attached to it. That is, when I run "lspci" the wireless card doesn't even show up on the list like it does with Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Mint. This narrows my options when it comes to choosing a distro to install on my computer. I can't seem to find instructions as to how I can make my wireless card work. I assume it needs a driver. I managed to find the driver, I think, in the form of a .tar.gz file. The card is a Realtek Semiconductor, RTL 8191SEvB Wireless Lan Controller (rev 10).

View 7 Replies View Relatedinstalling the PCI wireless card drivers in CentOS linux. I have "Sabrent PCI-G802 PCI Wireless Card - 54Mbps, 802.11g". I tried looking in google and tried multiple ways to install the driver but failed , I have followed the instructions given in the link i.e.
performed the following steps .....
1.# tar xvzf package.tar.gz (or tar xvjf package.tar.bz2)
2.# cd package
3.# ./configure
4.# make
5.# make install
I have the original cd (this cd has linux drivers also) which came with the PCI card but its not a plug and play cd like the MS windows, the cd drive is not reading the disk (But i can open it in windows 7). I copied the installation files from the cd to usb drive on my windows 7 PC and copied them on to the CentOS /home/user directory and performed the above mentioned steps. I was successful in getting till the second step. when i did the step 3 the system is asking some thing about

I just pressed the enter button and it went to the next message which is

View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I decided that I would swap over to Slackware on my HP dv2000 notebook as Linux mint wasn't encouraging me to use the command line too much and I decided to get thrown in the deep end with the scripting side of things.
Basically I can't work out how to install WCID off the Slackware DVD, I have gotten as far as extracting it (extracted to /home/ but I am unsure how to execute it, I have read the install docs and can't make much sense of it, could someone possibly help out and pass on the code to install.
