Just did an upgrade from 9.10 to 10.04 through the update manager and now I can't boot into the OS. I receive these two errors:
error: no suitable mode found.
error: unknown command 'terminal'.
After these two errors. Screen flashes with the red/white loading circles and Ubuntu logo. After that just goes into a black screen.
I was given a computer that has the Ubuntu operating system installed I was able to at least get online with it. I tried to upgrade it (don't know what version was installed on it) using the Update Manager. When the computer restarted I got two error messages:
Error no suitable mode found
Error unknown command "terminal"
The system then went on through the Ubuntu logo screen but then I got a black screen. I couldn't get the computer to do anything. How to at least restore the computer back to its previous state before trying to upgrade.
I am trying to install wine in ubuntu 8.04. While installation getting the error 'No suitable package flex found'. I tried to find out flex package in adobe as well as other sites. unable to find out.

I can download the example above via the firefox browser on the same machine configured with the same proxy.
I've tried changing servers, other hacks, but no change in results. I suspect its a proxy issue, but I don't see how. I did provide the credentials in the http authentication window that my reverse proxy requires.when I try to change servers, I get this message: No suitable download server was found
I'm running NetWare SLES 10 sp3 with OES2 sp2. I was working with the folks at Novell to resolve an iPrint Print Manager problem.
During the process they wanted to perform a packet capture using tcpdump. While logged in as the root user the error no suitable device was found, and I received no data at all. This server is running on a VMWare Center. On other SLES 10 sp3 systems (residing on that same VMWre Center), tcpdump captures packets just fine. I inherited all of these servers, so I wasn't here during the initial build, but I'd make the guess that they were configured similarly. On a Server that I built recently, tcpdump works fine. On two of my Servers it does not, and gives the mentioned error.
It's not that big a deal, otherwise the Servers are communicating and working just fine. But, I'd like to get it working just because it's supposed to work. Students are off for the summer, so I have time to play.
i had tried several restrict options and disabling the slackware "no serve to anyone" default. i want the slackware system to host the ntp server for other devices to sync with so im not so hard on the remote ntp servers.

I am running Debian Lenny 64b, and every packages are totally updated. I have 25 identical servers. And there is just one giving me this problem. From what I see, it is not a connection/FW issue since ntpdate get replies from the ntp server (ntp.skynet.be is my isp's stratum 2 ntp server).

I cant get ntpd to synchronize with the ntp servers. I have a CentOS 5.3 32 bit Virtual Machine. I'm in USA on Pacific Standard Time. Here's all configuration and other important information for troubleshooting. Is there anything wrong with my config? btw, I used wireshark to look at the UDP packets - I dont get any responses from any of the servers back. I only see requests going out from my server, but no response. Is this a firewall Issue? If it is, then do I need to just enable UDP port 123 on the firewall?

I have a new installation. I try to boot and instead of my grub menu, I get "error: file not found" and am dropped into the rescue prompt. I have just a standard "Desktop" installation. I installed from the 5.05 net install cd. I installed grub to the MBR.
partitions are:

I can't update my ubuntu clock with my server. If i run the command ntpdate domain.local, it gives me this erro (no server suitable for synchronization found) if i run the command nslookup domain.local it works well and found my server

When I select any option under Partitioning of your hard drive, it gives me an error. " No Drives found - An error has occured - no valid devices were found on which to create new file systems. View 1 Replies View RelatedUbuntu 9.10 was set up to handle the booting selection - previously I thought it was xp but Ubuntu 9.10 "did" it. The system started out as a xp / ubuntu 9.10 dual boot on a 400gb drive. xp has 210gb, ub has 80 and their is a 100gb shared storage. Xp was installed first and then I followed a guide over at linuxconfig.org to get ub installed so that I could select which OS was wanted at boot. Ubuntu manages the boot up menu (Went back to look at my notes from the original setup) The owner tried to update to ub 11.04 and afterall was said and done the machine now boots to the message
error file not found grub rescue I can't say if 11.04 was properly installed or not. Ask whatever you like and I'll give the best answer I can. I think the xp install is okay but I can't say for certain as I don't know how to boot it outside the bootmanager at startup. Data has been saved so if I have to blow it all away and start over I can but I'm hoping I won't have to.
My Mini13 came with hardy preloaded, and it's got pretty messed up since, so I'd like to restore factory OS via a grub entry that looks like this:

I have Fedora 10. Some web pages need plugins installed eg. quicktime etc. The web browser shows a button"Install Missing Plugins" at the top. When I click this it always says "No suitable plugins were found".

I have a dual boot xp -ubuntu - AGP ati 2600 series radeon. Intel 8300 dell. The message comes up after login "ubuntu is running in low-graphics mode". I hit ok and I get 5 choices and none of them work.
1) run ubuntu in low-graphics mode.
2) reconfigure graphics.
3) troubleshoot the error.
4) exit to console login.
5) restart X.

Use the Up and Down keys to select which entry is highlighted press enter to boot selected OS, "e" to edit the commands before booting, or c for command line.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an HP Pavilion DV 6500 laptop running Windows 7 and Ubuntu (via Wubi). I just updated Ubuntu to 10.10 from 10.04. After restoring the Windows bootloader (which I need to do every time Grub gets updated), I can no longer boot up Ubuntu. When I select it from the bootloader, it gives me a couple of errors, the final one being: Error: File not found And then reboots the system automatically.

When I boot my computer (emachines E528 laptop), it gets to the BIOS loading screen (the one where you have the option to press a function key to get to the BIOS settings), then it goes to a black screen and looks like it is going to load GRUB, but instead of loading GRUB, the computer reboots. It does this endlessly, unless I insert a LiveCD. So, it's not the BIOS. That's good. When the Mint GUI (Linux Mint was the LiveCD I was originally using as I just happened to have it on hand) loaded for the first time, I checked all of the hard drive partitions and they all seemed to load fine. So, it's not a mechanical problem with the HDD. That's good.
At this point, I figured the MBR had become corrupted somehow. Now I wasn't really sure exactly where the MBR was, or how it all worked, but I was pretty sure that if I just reinstalled GRUB, everything would be hunky dorey. Unfortunately, I hit a road block when trying to install GRUB. That's not good. I am trying to follow the instructions in this thread, but I get the following error:

So then I tried following the instructions here, but I don't know how to tell which drive is sda1, sda2, etc. I'm guessing there's some terminal command to figure it out, but I don't know it and Google was less than helpful. Only problem with that is that I am not sure how to access the files on my Ubuntu partition as they are encrypted (I wrote down the key when I started it up, I just don't know how to bring up a prompt that will let me enter the key). I really don't want to reinstall and set everything back up, but if I have to I will. how to tell which partition is associated with which sda#, or how to access the files in my encrypted Ubuntu home folder. How do I tell which partition is associated to which sda#? How do I open my encrypted home folder from my Ubuntu partition?

While installing ubuntu when it asks which partition you want to install it "as it said your all data in the partition would be erased but not before you confirm" so I selected go back and aborted installation because I didn't wanted that and bang I start my system again an I get this error "no boot device found". I ran my hard disk test it say's passed so I don't think my hard disk is corrupted. I tried using windows 7 recovery disc but I guess it doesn't even detects a operating system on my laptop. I got no back up of my data. Any way to get back my data if I cant get windows back!

I have a Wubi 10.04 installation and I just did an upgrade and then I rebooted and then I got a message which just said 'error: file not found'. Then it doesn't do anything after that. I get no grub prompt or anything. I'm a newbie to Ubuntu so I'm not sure what to do.Is there a way I can repair the installation from windows maybe or what can I do because I can't even enter the command prompt.
View 2 Replies View RelatedDecided I'd like to take a look at OpenSUSE and installed onto my desktop. Already successfully dual booting Ubuntu 10.10 and Windows XP (which I keep purely for iTunes). When I start the PC the Ubuntu grub menu showing Ubuntu and Windows options has been replaced by a Suse-branded screen showing something that looks (to my untrained eye) like a grub menu. Ubuntu and Suse are listed. If I select Ubuntu I am shown a dos screen with "Error 15: file not found". I am then taken to the old Ubuntu grub screen but trying to boot Ubuntu from that menu returns the same error. I know all the data is still there - I can mount the drive in Suse and view all my documents.
I have searched the forums and tried to follow some of the instructions given in response to similar threads but I'm afraid I didn't get very far. Please assume that I have NO PRIOR KNOWLEDGE of Linux! I really know nothing about it and am only just getting to grips with basic terminal commands.
