When I return to my plasma desktop from hibernating, the font display is broken - kind of stripes It affects all kde and gnome programs, and all window decorations, but f.e. chrome displays the webpages well.What could cause this, and how can I fix it? My system is a dell inspiron 1525 with intel 965gm graphics card running kubuntu 11.04 with no kde ppas enabled.

It works great. the problem is when i try to run some graphical programs it gives me weird graphics.. i looked into it and it seems that my graphic card wasn't installed correctly.. please help. here's my "lspci -v" PS: i'm kinda a newbie in the whole linux drivers thing.. i googled and all i could find was windows drivers...

I've got a dual-monitor thing going on with an EeePC 701 - its own 7" screen display and a 14" monitor. It's running regular Ubuntu 10.10.The screenshot is the display I get on the 14" monitor. What's up with the top-left corner?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm guessing this problems came with one of the recent updates but I have no idea what it might be. I can "su" to the root user no problem in bash. However, I can't login to root through gnome on startup, nor can I login when asked to for things like allowing updates through the gui. Basically the root user is unavailable through the gui but is accessible through the command line.
I've had this system for over year and it just started doing this. Does anyone have a clue what I could do to fix this? I have already done the obvious of using "passwd" to change the root password to see if that action would correct whatever went awry without success.
The last update I was able to do, which must be close to the last time I was able to log in as root user was on 24 Feb. 2010 and it installed gmime, mozilla-xulrunner190, libgmime-2_0-3, mozilla-xulrunner190-gnomevfs, mozilla-xulrunner190-devel, gmime-sharp.
It doesn't seem to be a particular font

Sometimes I get this ugly grey square in the system tray area of my panel. [URL] I'm guessing it belongs to an item that isn't there, but if I start an additionnal tray program, the new app doesn't take this place, instead it adds itself to the left of the tray. And it doesn't belong to a program that I used and closed, since it's there after a fresh boot.

I installed openSUSE 11.2 on another computer to confirm the problem... it persists. I took some screenshots to compare my settings.

The second screenshot doesn't show, but both settings are using the exact same fonts and the same size. (Except the Window title font). Recently I was creating an image in GIMP when I needed to add a new font. I went to my mounted XP drive and copied the file I wanted over into /usr/X11R6/share/fonts/TTF then I went to the font installer as root and installed the font system wide. After that I reloaded GIMP and the font was available. A little while later I went to browse the internet and when I loaded up firefox, it showed a properly formatted and spaced page with no text on it at all. If I highlighted a line, the invisible text would copy to the clipboard properly and I could read it that way. I figured it might've been a just a FF issue, but when I loaded up Seamonkey, I wound up with the same problem. I'm using Firefox 3.0.16 and Seamonkey 2.0.1. I tried going into the preferences and changing the default font, but no matter what I change it to, it doesn't fix it. Slack 1.2 running kernel 2.6.27.31-smp. I use slapt-get to stay up to date and as far as I can tell i have the latest patches and pkgs.

I have a fresh install of OpenSUSE 11.4 64bit and I have installed the AMD Display drivers for my Radeon HD 5970. Everything seems to be working quite well. I have a multiple monitor setup (1280x1024 monitor and a 1920x1080 monitor).
I have my primary display set to 1920x1080, however when I try to enable the second display, I get a CRTC error that the display is over the maximum (1920x1920). If I enable both monitors at lower resolutions, there is no problem.
I have done a fair bit of reading and have been unable to determine where this maximum is set, or how to change it. I'd like to be able to run both monitors at their native resolutions.
I finally performed my upgrade from Karmic today, everything went smooth and looked great. I decided to check out how KDE looked so I logged out, went into KDE and poked around for a bit then went back to GNOME. All my fonts are now that horrible tiny KDE font and I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to return the fonts to their previous glory.
Can anyone, please, point me in the right direction? I've totally removed KDE from my system, I took all the files out of ~.fontconfig and set antialiasing to false in /etc/fonts/conf.avail/10-antialias.conf but still no joy. I haven't found the settings to get back to default but I've installed the MS font pack which looks better than the KDE stuff
So I just turned my computer on and it was beeping rapidly, and it would stop if I hit "Enter". Also this came on my screen: Cannot set Fray", something like that. It boots fine..just what is that?

The KDE has been removed but some how some of the font changed.

While I have good fonts in Qt now, in Gnome still they are bad. I have some Type1 fonts with PFB, PFM, AFM and sometimes INF face files. The only ones I see in the <Type1> directory are AFM and PFA. Which font files does Gnome actually require? Is a PFA needed? Whatever I do in appearance-fonts, all gnome applications follow the settings from KDE Personal Settings. (Application Appearance -> Fonts)
I lost all the subpixel hinting, and I finally just found out that if I set it in KDE Personal Settings it actually affects gnome applications. (I'm in GNOME now)
I installed new ati radeon drivers in the morning because i was getting display/screen deformation when using some programs (like vertical lines and so on). Now everything is just fine but i can't get 3d accelerator to work and due to this some games are running very slow. I am a new linux user. I have done everything i know and searched this from the internet but i can't get 3d acc. to work again. i have installed new drivers over the old ones (or i don't know; mesa?)
