I have a weird colors problem while trying to play movies in gnome movie player or vlc, the colors change totally like pink becoming green and yellow becomes pink. Any way to overcome it?

When I want to play an official DVD, Mplayer and VLC start and close down immediately..
When I want to play a movie from my HDD I get this (see attachment) with Mplayer and with VLC..Totem just doesn't want to play it..
but whats really weird is when I make a screenshot using VLC even though the colours are weird the screen shot comes out normal
I recently upgraded my girlfriend laptop to 9.10 and now, for some odd reason, when she plays DVDs on her laptop (the most recent attempt was the latest Harry Potter movie) the movie would play back fine but the colors for everything were way off. I've re-added the medibuntu software sources to her system and applied all available updates but it didn't help.
This problem did not occur on my own computer when attempting to play the exact same DVD.
I installed opensuse 11.3 KDE for the first time last week. Amarok works fine with mp3 files. Also I installed VLC and kaffiene with all available codecs but unfortunately I have no sound in my avi movies. I can not know what is the reason although it was working fine in windows.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded my machine to a AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ in the hopes of being able to stream HD movies to my ps3 and tv. I currently dont have my ps3 hooked up. But yesterday I wanted to watch HD movies from my server (samba share) from my laptop hooked up to the tv via CAT5. The issue is that when I started the movie, playback back was skipping. When I watch the movie on the Ubuntu server no skipping. I am wondering if this has to do with my switch being 10/100 and not GB? Im not trying to watch them over wifi as that would be impossible. The connection is CAT5 cabling. Should I try a GB switch instead?

at first with a single boot system(ubuntu) everything were fine with everything include second monitor ,then i installed vista too,now i have a dual boot system & i am very happy to get rid of crappy junk microsoft's software as much as i can,unbuntu performance is really wonderful to me,just i have one problem,my second monitor show very weird colors ,almost like a negative print,then i boot with vista & there everything are fine with my second monitor,then i guess i don't have any hardware or driver problem,any help or suggestion?I changed my visual setting from extra to non,in case if this problem is because of not enough memory or els,but iy didn't work. my loptop is a vaio vgn,4 gb ram,intel centrino 2- 2.66 ghz-ati radeon graphic card.

I discovered the extended settings in vlc. I guess it just doesn't show the colour blue. Kind of ironic because of the concert.
Sometimes I get this ugly grey square in the system tray area of my panel. [URL] I'm guessing it belongs to an item that isn't there, but if I start an additionnal tray program, the new app doesn't take this place, instead it adds itself to the left of the tray. And it doesn't belong to a program that I used and closed, since it's there after a fresh boot.

I have been searching the internet far and wide today looking for ways to do this. I have tried all the ways I could find: edit .bsrc file, edit DIR_COLORS, edit DIR_COLORS.xterm, create .dircolors, edit etc/profile, edit .cshrc file, alias ls --colors, and all combinations of this. I can't figure out what I am doing wrong.I use su in my terminal I get the colors for ls. So there must be something up with my user profile? I have tried to edit my terminal profiles and my desktop themes neither worked. Please help! I know this is a trivial issue, but now I am on a mission to figure this out.
View 40 Replies View RelatedI'm guessing this problems came with one of the recent updates but I have no idea what it might be. I can "su" to the root user no problem in bash. However, I can't login to root through gnome on startup, nor can I login when asked to for things like allowing updates through the gui. Basically the root user is unavailable through the gui but is accessible through the command line.
I've had this system for over year and it just started doing this. Does anyone have a clue what I could do to fix this? I have already done the obvious of using "passwd" to change the root password to see if that action would correct whatever went awry without success.
The last update I was able to do, which must be close to the last time I was able to log in as root user was on 24 Feb. 2010 and it installed gmime, mozilla-xulrunner190, libgmime-2_0-3, mozilla-xulrunner190-gnomevfs, mozilla-xulrunner190-devel, gmime-sharp.
So far I want to change two things i want to change both the bars to Black and i want the text to be white i tried google nothing...
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Fedora 15 (64-bit), and after running yum update and updating the kernel, I installed the ATI graphics driver from the AMD website. I have an ATI Radeon 5000 series card. The driver itself seems to work ok, as my Gnome 3 still operates after reboot, but the top bar (where the activities button is) is covered in weird rainbow-like colors of green, pink, and gray. It's extremely ugly and I can't find a way to fix it. Upon reading posts by others with this problem, no solutions were brought forth. I have heard that many people with ATI cards don't have this problem, and the bar looks normal for them. I won't really be comfortable using Gnome 3 unless I can get rid of those colors.

I don't have any problems with the Monitor or the display of websites, it's only videos that aren't displayed correctly. Could that be due to the graphic card? View 2 Replies View RelatedI can't get my sisters Ubuntu to play some movies off DVD. I google searched for how to play dvds on ubuntu, and a site says basically "just install Totem" and the dvdlib3 (it already has dvdlib4 installed) so I went ahead and installed totem.I launched totem, but there is no option for opening a DVD, there's only Open File. which would mean I'd have to open the vob files, which are very confusing to navigate.
I tried VLC and VLC couldn't run it, so I tried VLC(Windows32 under Wine) and although it worked in the past, it couldn't read the movie either(the movie is Casino Royale and I watched it just fine on my Windows machineis there an easy method to just install some proprietary software that can play movies with a single click? like with the package manager perhaps? I couldn't figure anything out. It seems like Ubuntu should come pre-ready for DVDs and I don't understand why it isn't.
