Ubuntu :: Xdialog On Maverick - Find A Similar Package?
Jan 21, 2011
I have a HP laptop, and recently I configured the Remote Control to control the sound, and make a funny joke when a curious friend press the Power button in the remote control. To make this work, I want to make a shell script that calls a dialog, not a console dialog, but a GTK dialog. Then I tried to install the package "xdialog", that is no longer present on the official repositories, and I tried to find a similar package, but no success. What comes closest is "dialog", but this shows only a console dialog.
I had Xdialog installed on a Jaunty machine. According to Synaptic, it comes from the section "Miscellaneous - Graphical (Universe)". I did a fresh installation of Lucid 10.04. But, Synaptic doesn't find Xdialog. I tried downloading the RPM build from the website, but alien seems unable to correctly convert it. I know that we're "supposed" to use zenity, but zenity doesn't have some of the features that I need.
Is there any package similar to 'HOTSPOT SHIELD' ? in ubuntu, I used Hotspot in windows to unblock some sites, now with Ubuntu I am badly missing those sites.
Im trying to install TinyOS package on Ubuntu Maverick. However during installation, I get the following error Quote:
E: /var/cache/apt/archives/avr-gcc-tinyos_4.1.2-20080806_i386.deb: trying to overwrite '/usr/bin/avr-cpp', which is also in package gcc-avr 1 E: /var/cache/apt/archives/binutils-avr_2.20.1-1ubuntu2_i386.deb: trying to overwrite '/usr/bin/avr-size', which is also in package avr-binutils-tinyos 2.17-20080806
I want to remove duplicate or multiple similar lines from multiple files. I.e. if I have four files file1.txt file2.txt file3.txt and file4.txt and would like to find and remove similar lines from all these files keeping only one line from these similar lines. I only that uniq can be used to remove similar lines from a sorted file.
When I click it, a window opens but I loose the menu bar. I click on a post in this window, and the same happens. So, if I want to save the page, I have no way to do it.
I have downloaded GTKradiant 1.5.0(from GameFront) in rpm format and converted it to deb using alien.I ran that deb file to install the program. After the instalation completed,I closed Ubuntu software center. However,I cannot find GTKradiant anywhere on my system.Any idea what's the cause and how could I solve this problem?
I use Ubuntu 10.10(that's why I posted this on the Ubuntu forum;does GTKradiant have any compatibility issues with Ubuntu?anything special to say about running that softwre on the mentioned OS?).(Note:I want to use Gtkradiant to create levels for the Neverball game). Yes,I've installed libgtkglext1.I've tried to run /opt/gtkradiant/radiant.x86 but I got:
"./radiant.x86: error while loading shared libraries: libgtkglext-x11-1.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory".
I tried to install the libgtkglext dev package but I got:
"Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done
Here's the problem I hope to solve: I had to recover a hard drive with pictures and other data on it after the file system was erased. Now, in some cases there are 5 or more instances of the same image with different sizes and different file names. Sometimes the images are also in different formats such as jpeg or pnm...
Some of these images may be duplicates of images in a backup hard drive. I am just asking to see if there is a software that can visually compare images, find visual similarities, and ask me which to keep.
Popup is comming but nothing showing on popup window. and getting below mentioned error on terminal. Gtk-WARNING (recursed) **: Failed to load module "libcanberra-gtk-module.so":
libcanberra-gtk-module.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
What is the reason to drop Xdialog from the new release; is any replacement on the horizon? (beside zenity that is really crippled version of Xdialog).
in maverick the default package installer (when I double click on a .deb) is Ubuntu Software Centre, how can I make the default package installer from lucid (was it called "dpkg"?) the default again? Ubuntu Software Centre is too slow and freezes every time I click on something, can it be replaced?
I am creating an script with Xdialog. The checklist option is confusing me a litte. Can someone tell me how to save the checklist states so they can be used in a script? As an example:
Code:
Xdialog --checklist "Choose toppings:" 10 40 3 1 Cheese on 2 "Tomato Sauce" on 3 Anchovies off
I would then like to put these values through if/else statements to perform different things with respect to the user selection.
From inside my bash script, is there a way to increase my Xdialog default font size? If not, is there any other way to do it? I found a commercial program using Xdialog with instructions on increasing the font size, but they did not say how they did it. But, it does mean it can be done:[URL]...

I cannot seem to get if else statements to work. if $choice == Dog then i want it to say "you selected Dog" The variable choice has the value Dog in it as proved at the end by echo "yes $choice is $choice" following the error Code: ./test.sh: 37: [$choice: not found How do i get the conditional statement to work? What's wrong here? This is the full script:
I'm trying to fix my mbr for windows through ubuntu because I don't have the actual windows xp recovery disk and Grub will not load windows xp. I entered the command "sudo apt-get update" and it loads all the packages but when I am supposed to type in "sudo apt-get install ms-sys" I get the message "E: couldn't find package ms-sys."
On my 32-bit 10.04 system, I'm trying to run a tcl script that uses tk ("package require Tk") but I'm always getting this error:
can't find package Tk while executing "package require Tk"
tcl version is 8.5 whilst tk is 8.4.16-2 and tklib is 0.5-2. It seems that tcl is not able to find tklib so I wonder if there is a way to tell tll where to find the package.
I installed Ubuntu 9.04 from the CD inside windows 7 as there is a feature to install Ubuntu 9.04 inside windows 7 -----Its really amazing...download any software you have to type some command in terminal.I did that but I am getting an error - COULD NOT FIND PACKAGE

Its a default install of ubuntu server 9.10 with default sources.list for australia. Its a very old computer though, here are the specs: Pentium 2, 333MHz Motherboard Chipset Intel 82440LX/EX ACPI is : Not Supported according to some system detection software I have, is that the reason? Is there another way to get the computer to shutdown safely when the powerbutton is pressed, instead of power loss occurring?
I couldn't find an amd64 version of the package I wanted, so I forced the architecture on the i386 version I found. (The package in question is xinput-calibrator, so that I can finally get my touchscreen to work.) I later found and added the repository that has the 64 version and tried to install it. It won't install the 64 version because I already have the i386 version. But it also won't let me remove the i386 version.
I can't seem to find the setools-gui package in the repo, and I do not see a deb package for it.I attempted to use alien to install the rpm, but that didn't work. Any idea on how to get the GUI to install?
I had installed Ubuntu server 10.04 and i am trying to install Webmin for GUI. When i start with "sudo apt-get install update" the following gets displayed...
