Debian :: Drop Xdialog From The New Release?
Feb 1, 2011What is the reason to drop Xdialog from the new release; is any replacement on the horizon? (beside zenity that is really crippled version of Xdialog).

View 4 Replies View Related am trying this command
"Xdialog --title IMR --yesno IMRCAME 8 25 &"
Popup is comming but nothing showing on popup window. and getting below mentioned error on terminal. Gtk-WARNING (recursed) **: Failed to load module "libcanberra-gtk-module.so":

I am creating an script with Xdialog. The checklist option is confusing me a litte. Can someone tell me how to save the checklist states so they can be used in a script? As an example:
Code:
Xdialog --checklist "Choose toppings:" 10 40 3
1 Cheese on
2 "Tomato Sauce" on
3 Anchovies off
I would then like to put these values through if/else statements to perform different things with respect to the user selection.
From inside my bash script, is there a way to increase my Xdialog default font size? If not, is there any other way to do it? I found a commercial program using Xdialog with instructions on increasing the font size, but they did not say how they did it. But, it does mean it can be done:[URL]...

View 10 Replies View RelatedI had Xdialog installed on a Jaunty machine. According to Synaptic, it comes from the section "Miscellaneous - Graphical (Universe)". I did a fresh installation of Lucid 10.04. But, Synaptic doesn't find Xdialog. I tried downloading the RPM build from the website, but alien seems unable to correctly convert it. I know that we're "supposed" to use zenity, but zenity doesn't have some of the features that I need.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a HP laptop, and recently I configured the Remote Control to control the sound, and make a funny joke when a curious friend press the Power button in the remote control. To make this work, I want to make a shell script that calls a dialog, not a console dialog, but a GTK dialog. Then I tried to install the package "xdialog", that is no longer present on the official repositories, and I tried to find a similar package, but no success. What comes closest is "dialog", but this shows only a console dialog.

I would like to log and drop outgoing connection attempts, but the log is not showing the destination IPs.I have the following Iptable rules for my browser:
Code: Select alliptables -N LOGGING
iptables -A OUTPUT -j LOGGING

Using Linux 4.3.0-1-686-pae #1 SMP Debian 4.3.3-2 (2015-12-17) i686 GNU/Linux (Debian Stretch)
Also using XFCE
When using mouse to drag files from one folder to another (to move, not copy), it frequently crashes thunar.
This has been going on for a couple of months now, despite getting the usual upgrades.
On Windows, I can drop file on batch script file, then dropped file is accepted as script parameter and script is automatically executed. Trying the same in Nautilus it seems like not possible. Is there some other way of using this approach in Debian?I hope it's clear what I'm after - I don't want to write Nautilus scripts as workaround and want to avoid: - opening terminal - cd to bash script - type script name andmeter file then executeinstead I would like already mentioned, drop filename expected as parameter to bash script, and then script to execute automatically.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to install (or compile myself) a previous kernel release (2.6.31.13). Where can I get it?
I mean a Debian Kernel with all your patches etc.
I'm using Debian Unstable. I just noticed that it was the quickest kernel (well, maybe for me only and my hardware).
I'm using the latest debian version 8.3, and I want to downgrade to 8.1 point release, I couldn't find a way to downgrade.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI want to use a rolling release. I have distro hopped and know I want Debian (not a derivative like LMDE) and a rolling release. Is testing updated so you never have to do an upgrade or re-install when a new version is out? Or, do you have to add Sid Repos to never do another re-install when new version comes out?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI tried to install nvidia drivers & when I tried aptitude update it says that 'backports.debian .org' Release file has expired ignoring......How long does it normally take to update?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI utilize the dhcp server in Debian to hand out IP adressing for around 2500 clients. It works flawlessly except that the lease tables dont seem to release expired leases. I have tried setting shorter lease times with no luck. I can manually delete expired leases.
View 4 Replies View RelatedNow that Ubuntu is at a LTS stage with Lucid and is easier to install PV in XenServer, I have been wanting to drop my current debian VM nodes in favor of Ubuntu 10.04. So far I have DRBD8 and OCFS2 all working nicely as primary/primary and I am on the next stage of my setup by installing ldirectord and heartbeat. Can anyone shed some light on heartbeat-gui (hb_gui) as it no longer seems to be in the repositories (since Jaunty)?[URL].. I understand that Lucid now uses pacemaker as part of a clustering suite but I have no idea if I really need it. I really liked being able to run hb_gui and logging into the heartbeat cluster to manage resources via point and click so if anyone has any hints on replacements or newer preferred methods to accomplish the same tasks via point-n-click,
View 1 Replies View RelatedImpatient as I am I installed RC 1 of the 64 bit version of Debian 6. Will this automatically update as a fixes are applied or will I need to reinstall once the stable version is released ?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have found some stable releases of packages I use which are included in Debian stable to be outdated. For example: I use Kdevelop. I absolutely love it. Checking Kdevelop.org says that latest stable release is 4.2.3.However on my system, the latest stable package found is 4.0.1 In my sources list I've selected to use only stable packages:
deb http://security.debian.org/ squeeze/updates main
deb-src http://security.debian.org/ squeeze/updates main
deb http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debian/ stable main contrib non-free
deb-src http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debian/ stable main contrib non-free
BTW, I assume this is how I only get stable packages ? Why is it that although there are newer stable releases of Kdevelop, the latest (stable) found on Debian is 4.0.1 ? Is there something I can do in order to include those newer stable releases, other than downloading the source from the wesbite and building/installing ? I really like the way Debian handles it's packages, and I understand that Debian has it's own ways of doing things.
I am doing a new Debian install on an older Dell laptop (Latitude D520, but that should not matter). I downloaded the net install .iso, burned it to disk, and ran it. Everything was progressing like any other installation I have done until I was asked to pick the mirror. I chose ftp.us.debian.org like I normally do and it was rejected. When I checked the output on virtual console 4, I am seeing the message "mirror does not support the specified release (jessie)."
I tried a bunch of random mirrors, including international ones, and they all give me that message.
I am trying to create a local debian repo for 3rd party apps and my own deb's. I have done the following: dpkg-scanpackages debian | gzip -9c> debian/Packages.gz Which did create a file called Packages.gz in the directory However, when I do apt-get update on a client machine I get the following error: W: Failed to fetch [URL] Could not connect to 10.1.1.10:8080 (10.1.1.10). - connect (111: Connection refused) W: Failed to fetch [URL] Unable to connect to 10.1.1.10:8080: W: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am wondering about when Gnome 3 is released, how long until it's in the "stable" repositories?I have generally used Ubuntu, but I don't like the Unity interface they are pushing out in the next version, so I am greatly considering simply using Debian. Debian also is my first consideration because Ubuntu is based off it.But, I want to try the Gnome 3 interface first. I already have Debian installed and updated, and am now simply waiting on the GUI.
