View 1 RepliesI just installed UNR 10.10 on my Acer AspireOne D255 netbook.
I've installed the broadcom driver it wanted me to, so it enabled wireless networks, HOWEVER, none show up.
I used to have the Acer AspireOne 531h with UNR 10.04, and the wireless worked out of the box.
What can I do to get it to recognize wireless networks?
I tested it with a wired connection and it worked.
I need to connect to wireless internet in ubuntu netbook 10.10, but it says 'device not ready (firmware missing).

Ive tried practically every suggestion quoted on this message board downloading drivers, from Samsung and Realtek which wont open also linux versions with the same result, trying the Ubuntu compilation of Wine etc, etc. Am about to give up, which is a pity, because the Netbook version Ubuntu is very user friendly.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed Netbook Launcher on Ubuntu, it works almost perfect, but when the number of icons on some menu option is large enough (like on System) the scrollbar is not long enough and the last icons get cut off, so I can't completely see "Time and Date" for example... Is this a known bug?
is there a way to add Internet Bookmarks to the Launcher?
I just installed an Ubuntu partition on my MSI U210 netbook. Wireless worked fine on the Windows XP that was there before, but not on Ubuntu. I tried plugging in the Ethernet, and that had no effect.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently switched from Windows 7 Starter to Ubuntu 10.10 on my netbook, however, I cannot connect to the internet through my recently purchased D-Link Dir-615 it did work using Windows. In my Connections things appear right under IPv4 the method is Automatic DHCP, security is WPA & WPA2 Personal but keeps asking for password and won't connect. The SSID is the name of my network, the mode is Infrastructure, the MTU is Automatic, Under IPv6 Method is Ignored. Everything seems right but nothing connects.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have recently switched my samsung n130 with windows 7 starter to the ubuntu netbook remix. When I go onto it, it doesn't even look for a wireless connection. All there is is a wired auto ethos. How can i get my netbook to recognize my wireless connection in my house?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running ubuntu v. 9.10, kernel 2.6.31-22-generic, and it's currently connected to the internet via one of those mobile 3G USB keys (HUAWEI E1550).
The problem is that I tend to run multiple computers concurrently and it would be beneficial if I could have internet access on the lot.
So I was wondering if there's a way that I could use my netbook as a wireless router in order to host a wlan.
I am trying to install both the proprietary drivers for "broadcom B43 wireless driver" and "Broadcom STA wireless" on my netbook but I get this on both "SystemError: installArchives() failed". I am using Ubuntu 10.10 desktop edition.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to connect my desktop to my laptop over a non-internet connected LAN, but when i enable the LAN connection on my desktop (the one with the wireless) its internet stops working.
it is a very similar problem to this except that i am using ubuntu for the machine with the two connections.
right now i have my wireless on the 192.168.1.* address space, while the LAN is to be on 192.168.5.*
note: my goal is not to share internet with my laptop, just be able to connect to it and the internet at the same time.
desktop: ubuntu 9.10 , wireless and LAN
laptop: windows xp, LAN only
I tried to install Xubuntu 10.10 Maverick as dual boot on my laptop. However when xubuntu is on, I can't find a way to connect to internet. View 2 Replies View RelatedI bought a netbook and couldn't handle windows xp at all, so installed ubuntu 9.10, but the wireless network icon doesn't appear on the top of the screen like it should, presumably because ubuntu doesn't automatically recognize whatever card is in there. This is an asus 1001-HA. could anyone assist me with getting this thing up and running on a wireless network?
View 9 Replies View RelatedIm a newb to ubuntu just wiped my brand new asus 1001p netbook of windwos 7 and put ubuntu netbook remix on it 9.10....Everything works great except the wireless...I know theres probally a billion topics on this, but i just need step by step easdy to follow guide on how to do this...I asked the IT at my work and he claims it cant be done, unless i switch out the internal wireless to a card that "just works", which im not comfortable with or use a usb wireless stick, which defeats the purpose of a netbook being so small....Im sure this can be done so please help me show up a IT that doesnt know linux .BTW the wireless card is a atheros thats all i know..
View 8 Replies View RelatedI just installed Netbook Remix 10.04 on my Lenovo S10 netbook and wireless is not working. I looked on google for some answers and saw that the Broadcom STA driver may be missing so when I tried to install it through Synaptic Package Manager it said that it was already installed. When I click on the wireless icon, it says under wireless that the device is not ready and I can't connect to any wireless networks, even if the SSID is not hidden. I am confused as I already have the driver and all the system updates but it still won't work.

I have a HP Mini1000 and recently switched over to Ubuntu. I followed the directions found here:[URL] However, I still cannot connect to wireless networks though my card seems to be scanning for them and finding them. I have tried connecting to open networks and ones that require authentication.
View 1 Replies View Relatedsetting up a netbook's wireless access point (to allow remote connection to a network drive connected to the netbook). I know this sounds daft but there is a reason.I just switched workplace and have all my projects on one drive. However my new workplace's network only assigns ip to certain Mac addresses. So I can't just plug in the network drive. My new work desktop is MS loaded, warranty sticker sealed and shared so I can't change this.Well I will, but not in the first week.
The simplest solution I thought of was to bring in my ubuntu netbook connect this to the network drive and wirelessly connect the netbook to the new desktop this via a wireless USB dongle.I connected the netbook to the network drive with no problem using the wired card. I done this by adding
Code:
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
address 192.168.4.1
network 192.168.4.0
[code]....
For the wireless bit, on the netbook, I right clicked on the network indicator icon and selected "Create New Wireless network" then entered a network name and WEP passphase.Over to the desktop (XP). I plugged in a wireless dongle, get it load the driver then selected my new network and entered the passphrase. It came up connected and sure enough I check and it got assigned a sensible IP.
All seemed well and I even connected my android phone with no issues. The phone and desktop can ping each other. However for some reason I can't actually ping or ssh to or from the netbook. So whilst it's happily providing the wireless network it can't use it itself.
p.s. Incidentally I am allowed to plug in USB drives so this isn't an access issue or me trying to sneakily circumvent rules. I even told my IT department about the wireless dongle plan.
After installing Ubuntu Netbook Remix on my Toshiba NB505, I hoped the wireless would just work right away, but it didn't. After much searching, I found these instructions (scroll down to High Horse's response at #3), which directed me to download the Realtek Driver RTL8192SE. I followed the directions to a T and everything was working wonderfully, until a recent restart that has taken me back to square one. I think the default Ubuntu drivers may be overriding the drivers I installed and putting everything back to default (no wireless), but I'm not sure. Here's the latest output:
Code:
olamina@ubuntu:~$ sudo su
root@ubuntu:/home/olamina# lshw -C Network
*-network UNCLAIMED
description: Network controller
