Ubuntu :: Wireless: Broadcam 4322AG - Preferences Does Not Detect
Sep 18, 2010
I just installed 10.04 Final Release as a dual boot on my HP Pavilion dv4 1123us laptop, and the "Hardware Drivers" option in System> Preferences does not detect that anything is in need of an install. It also gives me a message right before it checks to do something like connect to the internet to update the database. If I do this, will it detect the 4322AG card, or will I have to do something entierly different? I'm not afraid of the command line, but I also want to keep this as simple as possible. I'm sure this question has been asked before, but I did my best to try and find it earlier.

I'm thinking of installing Fedora 14 on my hp laptop, and need to know if this will support the Broadcom 4322AG wireless card it came with, will only probably use Fedora if the card is already recognized, or an easy gui install. This is the game changer between using fedora or linux mint for me

To find the appropriate firmware without knowing the make or brand of your wireless chip, you can use the command:
#fw-detect
But apparently debian package do not offer this useful tool, well, certainly for sidux exclusively.
Is there a package of fw-detect eventually?

On my system, System->Preferences->Software Updates, as best I can determine, completely ignores the "Check for updates: " setting. It looks as if, regardless of what I set, I get daily checks. Is anybody else experiencing this? Anybody got a fix? I like the idea of having the system check for me, so I don't want to just pitch the program.

I just got myself a Dell Inspiron 1440. And decided to install my favorite distro Debian. I got the installation to go with no issue and all seems to be working fine. However the wireless isn't working. NetworkManager doesnt even detect a wireless card. I followed the instructions here and installed the b43-fwcutter and then issued the modprobe b43 and modprobe b43legacy commands. Then I issued the iwconfig command and this was the output.

Also, I've been doing some research and found out about some file located /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules. So I looked in mine and found out that only my eth0 is added.

I have an HP Pavilion Dv6-1230US laptop that I bought from staples when it was on sale for 800 dollars with a 4 year accidental damage warranty. It came with Vista Home Premium 64Bit installed. It had Windows 7 Business 64Bit on it at one point, And the latest windows installation was Windows Vista Business 32Bit. My trial period ran out on vista and I switched to Ubuntu 10.04 32Bit, and, as always, I have a problem with the wireless card. I have looked it up and everything, i do have the drivers installed, and it looks functional, but its not. It will act like its going to connect to my AP (Netgear WNR3500L that is like 2 days old), but it eventually askes me for my WPA2-Personal AES key, which I have supplied, and is correct before hand, i type the exact same thing in and it still doesn't work.
I've tried sudo apt-get update, and sudo apt-get upgrade, but it doesn't work. nothing has to update. This installation was installed today, and updated about 6 hours ago to the fullest extent. The wired works absolutely perfect (that's how i updated it). Hardware:Laptop has a Broadcom 4322AG b/g/draft-n wireless card from HP integrated into the laptop. The router is a Netgear WNR3500L which i bought because we are switching ISP's soon and our old router is a modem, that will only work on a DSL connection.

I recently downloaded Ubuntu 10.04 into my Windows Vista laptop & I have downloaded the one that can run alongside my current system, so I'm running dual OS. At the start up screen where I choose the OS, I choose Ubuntu & it loads fine. Everything looks perfect except that it won't connect to or detect any wireless connections. I have tried clicking the Network Manager icon & clicking New Connection. I typed in the SSID & security key for my wireless connection/router & after I hit create, a small window pops up saying "Wireless Disconnected: you are now working offline" or something like that. Nothing happens/changes. There is no internet connection on Ubuntu OS. But when I switch over to my Vista OS, the internet works perfectly (obviously.)

I've just fully installed Ubuntu on my laptop. I had it running as a secondary operating system and have switched over. Now, however, I'm having all sorts of incredibly frustrating problems, one of which being that it won't detect the wireless networks around me!
how I can get the network manager to automatically detect wireless networks in range, this whole process has become very frustrating.

My son lost his USB Wireless stick for his Computer. I had thought I heard that if you had a second wireless router, you could use it somehow to detect the wireless router you have already set up in your home (like using a wireless card)? Is this what Ad-Hoc is? Either way, can this be done and if so how? I use a WRT54Gx2 Lynksys router and have a TRENDNET TEW-432BRP wireless router and also a spare D-link DI-514. I use ubuntu 10.04, and also wanted to know if I connected one of the router to his on the LAn port could he connect msaybe through an Ad-Hoc on my local computer here? He uses XP on his. I'm a newbie to linux and networking in general.

Every time I open "sound preferences" from either the sound applet or the preferences menu pulseaudio CPU usage goes right up to 100% and proceeds to lock up the entire computer. pavucontrol, paman, and all the other pulseaudio utils work fine, except for ubuntu's sound preferences. It affects a new account. This is my 10.04 desktop that is affected. I have just the default pulseaudio config.

I am running Ubuntu 9.10 on an ASUS eeepc 1000HE, and my wireless card, RaLink RT 2860, is failing to recognize any wireless networks. It was working fine this morning, until I accidentally hit Fn F2, disabling the wireless card. I hit Fn F2 again to reenable it, but it no longer will detect any wireless networks (and other computers in the household do recognize them). I googled quite a bit and talked to a human about this but could not fix it. We tried dhclient ra0, which returned
There is already a pid file /var/run/dhclient.pid with pid 2438
killed old client process, removed PID file

I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 on a Dell M6400, using Wubi for Windows 7 x64. My ISP sets my router password at source, meaning I'm unable to disable wireless encryption (which is WPA 2 Personal). That being said, I don't seem to be able to detect *any* wireless networks (I can still connect via ethernet, which does not require the password).
I'm not certain where the problem is, so I'll outline my steps and what the results were:
Under "System > Administration > Hardware Drivers" I have the "Broadcom STA proprietary wireless driver" installed (for BCM4311-, BCM4312-, BCM4321-, and BCM4322- based hardware)
The driver is activated and currently in use. When I type
"nm-tool", I get NetworkManager disconnected

No wireless networks can be recognized in Ubuntu, and now after several attempted fixes, my wireless toggle button won't switch from orange to blue. My wireless card is Atheros AR5001. I posted in the absolute beginners forum, but I've played around so much that I think I can move on to this one I'm so sorry if posting another thread is bad etiquette, but I need to have wireless access by Friday morning, and am slightly desperate.
Attempted fixes: First, I installed the backport modules using Synaptic. Then, I installed the madwifi driver. After those failed, I used ndiswrapper to install the Windows driver (linked from the ndiswrapper page). I made sure to disable the madwifi driver and restart first. My output all looks normal--I blacklisted everything mentioned in google searches. Here is the current output of ndiswrapper -l:
Code:

I am running UBUNTU 10.04 on an X86 system 64bit. I am trying install a wireless keyboard and am not having much luck.
-My non wirelessUSB keyboard and mouse work fine.
-My wireless logictech mouse works fine without adding any special drivers/packages
-Wireless Keyboard (LX500, uses same receiver as mouse) does not work with standard config
-Adding HIDPOINT and selecting my wireless mouse and keyboard (LX500) - wireless key board does not work. Mouse still works.Since my wireless mouse worked before HIPOINT installation (64 bit), I believe HIDPOINT is not working.
HIPOINT Does not detect my wireless devices auto, must manually select them. So I believe that there is some conflict with other drivers. Can anyone point be in a direction to look? What are the typical configuation files and drivers used to configure standard USB mouse and keyboards? What are some other software that might be installed that is conflicting with HIDPOINT?

I'm on an HP Pavillion dv4-1125nr with a Broadcom BCM 4312 network card.
I only have Ubuntu 10.04 installed on this computer.
ifconfig reports:
Code:

It isn't even detecting the wireless card, and the network manager will only let me connect to wired networks (I'm connected to my router via ethernet cable right now).
I've pressed the LED killswitch but it does nothing (doesn't change from orange to blue nor does it have any noticeable effect on the network manager or the reports of the above 2 commands).
