Fedora X86/64bit :: Rhythmbox Keeps Asking For Windows Media Audio Decoder Plugin / Fix It?

Jul 4, 2009

My music library contains some old .wma files and each time I try to run Rhythmbox, a window pops up saying that:

<Name of current song> requires an Additional plugin. The following plugin is required: Windows Media Audio Decoder. Do you want to search for this now ?

If I press the search button I get a response saying that the package was not found. Then I press the close button, only to see the same dialog popping up again. The funny thing is that all this is happening while the current songs is not in WMA format and it is actually playing

I am running fedora 11 and have configured both rpm-fusion and livna repositories.

For Firefox on Windows install the Microsoft Media Player Plugin. If it's already installed it may be disabled.

To check, go to Tools menu, choose Add-ons and then Plugins tab. There look for Microsoft Windows Media Player Firefox Plugin and reenable it."

Ubuntu :: Web Browser Media Players?

Jan 21, 2010

wasn't quite sure how to search for this the question always seemed to be too long and i'd get nothing related to my problem. its not a huge problem, but if i could fix it, that's be awesome

there's websites, such as videos, that i can't choose anything in the actual media player... to be more specific, it plays just fine, but it i wanted to pause, turn down the volume, rewind, or skip ahead, nothing happens, it acts as though i'm not clicking on anything. i guess its not a big deal, but just a little annoyance.

Ubuntu :: Adobe Browser Plugin Automatically Gets Added

Jun 11, 2011

My understanding is that when one installs Adobe Reader the browser plugin automatically gets added. For some reason the Adobe browser plugin isn't working in Firefox on my Ubuntu 10.10 desktop. The plugin doesn't show up in Tools Add-ons or Tools -> Manage Content Plug-ins. It works fine on my laptop with the same versions of Ubuntu, Adobe Reader (9.4.2-0maverick1), and firefox (3.6.17).

Starting firefox from a terminal yields messages that are probably illuminating to some:
Code:
$ LoadPlugin: failed to initialize shared library /opt/google/picasa/3.0/lib/npPicasa3.so [/opt/google/picasa/3.0/lib/npPicasa3.so: cannot open shared object file: Permission denied]
2.4+ kernel w/o ELF notes? -- report this
*** NSPlugin Viewer *** ERROR: /opt/Adobe/Reader9/Browser/intellinux/nppdf.so: failed to map segment from shared object: Permission denied
This message caused me to stumble onto the readme file, /opt/Adobe/Reader9/Browser/HowTo/ENU/Browser_Plugin_HowTo.txt, which encouraged me to run the script /opt/Adobe/Reader9/Browser/install_browser_plugin.

I ran it in the local mode, and it created the directory ~/.mozilla/plugins and the file nppdf.so in it. Alas, it didn't work, complaining that,
Code:
$ LoadPlugin: failed to initialize shared library /home/clarkb/.mozilla/plugins/nppdf.so [/home/clarkb/.mozilla/plugins/nppdf.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32]
and again,
Code:
*** NSPlugin Viewer *** ERROR: /opt/Adobe/Reader9/Browser/intellinux/nppdf.so: failed to map segment from shared object: Permission denied

Next I removed the plugins directory I'd created, and, following an Internet hint, I tried the command:
Code:
nspluginwrapper -i /opt/Adobe/Reader9/Browser/intellinux/nppdf.so
This didn't work either, again complaining that it "failed to map segment..."
How I can get the Adobe browser plugin to work? I'm almost sure that it worked not long ago.

General :: Install Windows 7 On Media Partition \ Keep Media Partition Completely Separate From Any OS?

Apr 24, 2010

I just bought a new hard drive so that I could convert my XP-only machine into an XP-Ubuntu-Windows 7 triple boot machine.Since the drive is absurdly huge (1 TB) I wouldn't mind throwing ReactOS into the mixtoo.I just found out that master boot records are limited to 4 entries, meaning 4 primary partitions. I had Windows XP set up on my old drive as a boot partition, a program files partition and a media partition. Since I really didn't want to install XP from scratch, I cloned this setup on my new drive.

This leaves me one MBR partition entry for installing Windows 7, Ubuntu and ReactOS. I'd like to avoid having to install XP from scratch like the plague, partly because it's supposed to be a safety net in case things go wrong with my other OS's and because I've invested a lot of time getting it set up exactly the way I like it.Here are the options I've considered and why I don't like them:Install Windows 7 on my media partition. This would work, but I prefer to keep my media partition completely separate from any OS, so that I can reformat an OS partition without affecting my media partition at all.

Use wubi or something to install Ubuntu in the same partition as something else. Again, this is brittle.Move all my media to a logical drive on an extended partition. Create another logical drive on this extended partition for Ubuntu. The problem here is that extended partitions are rather brittle--if you nuke one, it renders the rest useless.Just put the old drive back in my computer and run XP off it. Use the new one for the other OS's. The problem here is that the old drive is slower and uses extra power, generates extra heat, etc.

Slackware :: Installing Java Error - When Trying To Run A Java App With The Firefox Plugin - Browser Crashe

May 29, 2011

Code: ~ $ /usr/java/jre1.6.0_25/bin/java -showversion Error occurred during initialization of VMjava/lang/NoClassDefFoundError: java/lang/Object

That's the error I get. When trying to run a java app with the firefox plugin, the browser simply crashes if it's the 64bit java or tells me it's not installed if it's the 32bit version.

I'm at a loss as to what to do. I think it has something to do with leftover gunk from a previous version I misinstalled(Is that even a word?) Anyway, the only thing that google could come up with was a solution for windows which laid blame on Bill Gates for having a bunch of pf (java prefetch) files stuffed into c:windows for no apparent reason. The solution was to delete them, but I can't seem to find the java prefetch folder in linux. The method I used is downloading the rpm from java.com the rpm2tgz then installpkg then cp libnpjp2.so to firefox plugins folder.

Slackware :: 3D Windows Compiz Plugin Isn't Working

Jan 1, 2011

I've just finished installing slack on my new computer, and after about 20 minutes of hair-pulling agony, I've gotten compiz working properly except for one plugin; the 3D windows plugin (windows hover over cube on rotate). I think it might be a corrupted ccsm- whenever I check the box next to the plugin, then try to rotate the cube, it is unchecked. Anyway, I know my graphics card (Geforce 6200 256Mb pci-e) is powerful enough to handle it since the driver installed properly and the effect worked on the knoppix live disk I used for partitioning. I'm running xfce and using emerald as the window decorator if it helps at all. It does the same thing with both animation packs.

Ubuntu :: Windows Browser Plugins Using Wine Under Firefox

Nov 13, 2010

Is it possible to run Windows Firefox plugins/addons under Wine while the browser itself is the native Linux Firefox? For example; I am considering taking the introduction to Linux Open University course, but the course requirements state the need to use Shockwave Player. Obviously Shockwave Player is not available for Linux but it is (allegedly) possible to run both the Windows version of Firefox and Shockwave Player under Wine. I would prefer to run the Linux version of Firefox natively with only the Windows version of Shockwave Player using Wine.

Is there some method to achieve this ? Maybe there is some kind of wrapper application, something like the one used for Windows wireless networking drivers (NDISWrapper) or maybe there are instructions on how to embed the Shockwave Player using Wine in Firefox somewhere. Obviously my needs are quite specific but I am sure that being able to use Windows browser plugins/addons under the Linux version of Firefox would be of interest to at least a few other people.
