I'm travelling right now so am not connecting into my normal router. When using Ubuntu it connects to the Wifi and then after about 15 secs drops me out again. I I boot to Windows XP this doesnt happen.
where I should start looking tofigure out the problem? I'd much prefer to use linux

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having a really strange problem with my wifi connection on my laptop. The ethernet connection works fine and so does the wifi connection - as long as I sit within one meters range from my router! As soon as I take the laptop further away the connection drops. The router is still being found by network-manager and the signal is just below 100%, but when I try to establish a connection it fails.
I'm sitting here on a fresh Ubuntu 10.04 install, and I had exactly the same problem with 9.10. That time I went through a lot of different procedures, and in some strange way the problem was solved. I haven't been that lucky this time though, I've tried reinstalling network-manager, using ndiswrapper, installing the wireless backports package, tried all kinds of drivers.. nothing works.
There shouldn't be any problem with the connection itself; I've had a perfect connection downstairs but now I can't even connect if I stand two metres from the router! Has anyone experienced anything like this and managed to fix it? My wireless card is Atheros AR2413. This is an example from daemon.log

I have a dual booth system (ubuntu (64 bit) and windows 7 (also 64))... In both systems I have trouble with my wifi:Sometimes it works for a few hours without trouble and then I stops working every 10/15 seconds after reconnecting. In windows it keeps on reconnecting, but in ubuntu sometimes also the wifi logo/picture disappears from my panel, so I can't start wifi again or see it's status.

View 14 Replies View RelatedPinging out from my netbook (over wifi, to any host) gets ~0% packet loss. Pinging into it (from any host) gets about 50% packet loss.
The router is a Dlink-DIR615 (rev d, running DD-WRT v24-sp2) but all other hosts on it ping eachother fine. I've tried changing routing, disabling IPv6, using older kernels and using wicd, all with no luck. The wireless connections is at 100% most of the time. This could be a new problem with Maverick, but I may not have noticed it before. I believe this is causing web browsing to be really slow and causing SSH timeouts.
I haven't tried madwifi drivers or nsidwrapper yet.
Edit: just booted into Windows and it has the same problem. Could it be a hardware issue? Also tried with a static IP, with no change.
Strangely, a normal ping gets 50% packet loss, but ping -A gets < 1% loss.
Edit 2: no packet loss at all on eth0.

after maybe half an hour, the wireless download rate drops to about 110ks (and runs happily at up to 20x this until then). At that point, it will never pick back up above that rate unless i disconnect and reconnect. Once the problem occurs once, its like to reoccur about every 5 to 10 minutes until the machine has rebooted.

I have a Compaq Presario CQ60 with Nvidia GeForce 8200M graphics card. When I first installed Windows 7 followed by Karmic in dual boot I could boot into both OS. Now when I try to boot into Windows, it displays the Windows logo and then drops back to the grub menu. It may have started happening after Windows 7 installed updates. I tried reinstalling both Windows and Karmic again and it again worked initially but now Windows no longer boots. Does anyone have any suggestions about what may be causing this or how I can fix the problem without reinstalling?

View 2 Replies View RelatedAnother issue I'm having, considerably more serious, is my ability to connect to wifi access points with proxies. The story goes, my school has free wifi, but you have to go through their proxies to access the internet (like at McDonald's or Starbucks, where you must 'log in' and accept their usage terms). I can connect, including DHCP, and when I type in any URI I get the redirect posted to Chromium's address bar, but I simply cannot connect to it. This has happened in Ubuntu and Arch, using at least a couple different network management methods (I usually use WICD but I think I started off with networkd). The strange thing (to me) is that my Android phone works just fine, so although I'm not completely familiar with Android on this level, I don't imagine it's the fault of Linux itself. but I'll only be able to experiment with this once a week, on Saturdays (when I have class --gotta do something entertaining).

View 1 Replies View RelatedI own an Acer Aspire 5552g. I have installed 2 systems on it: Windows 7 and ubuntu 10.10. Everything works fine except wifi. There is a lot of threads connected to this topic, but none has solved my problem yet. The problem occurs when I hibernate Windows and then load ubuntu - I get unable to turn wifi on. As rfkill says - it is hard blocked. It wouldn't be a problem if i had a hard switch for wifi. but I only have fn+F3 for that, which somehow fails to work in my situation.

I have an HP notebook DV9760ed but I have no idea what I should use wlan driver. and I am a layman with Linux.
I tried with ndiswrapper and the driver of Windows XP bcmwl5 use only the wifi still not working.
I first booted into Fedora and it connected to the Interneting was working brilliantly. I then booted into windows for a session of TF2. After I booted back into Fedora, it wouldn't connect to my network.I did fix this by doing a hard reset on my router, BT homehub. It's just that I don't want to reset and apply custom settings all the time.

I think the network uses 802.1X authentication, because when the other students connects to the network for the first time in Windows they enter their username and password then the connection is established. I have asked the the IT staff but they do not known what 802.1X, PEAP EAP etc. is and just say "Enter the login details in the box!".
If I bring a Windows 7 machine to school and successful connects to the network, is it then possible for me to extract the information [and extract a certificate if used on the network] from Windows somehow so i can setup the wpa_supplicant.conf correctly on Debian?
The information I want to extract is which protocols are used, like PEAP,MSCHAP etc.

Installed ubuntu 9.10 dual boot with win7 yesterday. Everything working but Wifi. Wifi works fine with Win7. No Wifi in Ubuntu. Very confused. I have info from the wifi trouble ticket post.There does not seem to be a driver for this card anywhere.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running Ubuntu 9.10 on a Dell Inspiron E1505 and I am having problems with my wireless. It is a Broadcom B43xx series wireless card. I have the restricted drivers installed but I have trouble with it maintaining a constant connection. I attend a college where in order to connect to the wi-fi you need to have their certificates installed.The wireless certificates are installed and I'm telling Ubuntu to use it in order to connect but it drops in and out. I will be connected for a minute or two but then it will randomly drop out on me. I know its not my wireless hardware because any other wireless that I connect to off campus works perfectly fine. Any ideas on how to get this to work correctly?
I hate to bring this OS up but my Windows 7 connects perfectly. (On the same laptop. I triple boot: Ubuntu, Windows 7 [gaming OS] and Backtrack4 )If it helps any the wireless AP uses WPA2-Enterprise, PEAP, and MSCHAPv2 authentication, and the CA certificate (which I have selected to use), plus my user name and password.
I'm not sure if this is an issue with Ubuntu or with the BIOS. Basically when I start up my computer, the ondemand governor seems to work just fine (ranging from 800 MHz to 2200 MHz). However after some indeterminate amount of time, it will get stuck at 800 MHz and I'm not able to figure out how to get it to scale properly again.
When I restart my computer, it acts normal again for some time before locking in at the lowest frequency.
It seems like it may be related to this post: [URL]. The last post in that thread mentioned that it could be related to the temperature, that may be the case in my situation. Even if the temperature is low after it locks to the lowest frequency, it won't increase the speed as needed
My question is, is there any way to override this and let the CPU continue to run at higher frequencies once it locks down to the lowest frequency? My computer doesn't feel like it's getting that hot (it's a laptop), and I'd like to not have to be able to restart it every time this happens.
