I have an HP notebook DV9760ed but I have no idea what I should use wlan driver. and I am a layman with Linux.
I tried with ndiswrapper and the driver of Windows XP bcmwl5 use only the wifi still not working.
I often use an Ethernet cable to connect my computer to another computer for various purposes. But when I do that, I cannot use the internet even though I'm still connected to a WiFi access point. I'm presuming that's because openSUSE is trying to reach the internet through the Ethernet cable, which has precedence over WiFi.Is there a way to enable internet usage via WiFi while I'm connected to another computer over Ethernet?

I think the network uses 802.1X authentication, because when the other students connects to the network for the first time in Windows they enter their username and password then the connection is established. I have asked the the IT staff but they do not known what 802.1X, PEAP EAP etc. is and just say "Enter the login details in the box!".
If I bring a Windows 7 machine to school and successful connects to the network, is it then possible for me to extract the information [and extract a certificate if used on the network] from Windows somehow so i can setup the wpa_supplicant.conf correctly on Debian?
The information I want to extract is which protocols are used, like PEAP,MSCHAP etc.
A friend came by, and we tried to log her on to our wifi network when she was having trouble accessing it with her Windows (Dist #) machine.he wifi network itself was set up with macs, and had standard, open settings as far as I could tell - no password, NETGEAR title of the network.The Windows computer prompted us for a Security Pin, which we gave it from the router, and then all of the computers already on the network got dropped, while the Windows machine got set up onto the wifi, renamed the network with its own username, and automatically set up a password.I'm currently on the network using LAN, but can't figure out how to set up the network through Ubuntu back to the original settings for the rest of the people that need to access the network.Specs:I'm running Ubuntu 11.0,The Windows machine is unknown right now. I'm at a hotel with wireless protected by the MAC address. My MAC address is already registered and allowed to connect. However when I connect, the connection hangs just a few minutes and I got disconnected.
I tried to id some problem by scanning it with wireshark, but I did not found anything.
I wonder if there's some kind of MDNS problem...

Setup: Notebook with openSUSE 11.2 using KDE 4. Using Network Manager to manage network connection (although I've tried configuring this using ifup as well with no luck).
I need to be able to connect to client networks via a network cable (Ethernet) and connect to the internet via my MiFi 2200 Mobile WiFi. Both cards/connections are active with the following:
I have no problem mounting drives from the client's network. But, can not reach the internet. If I disconnect the ethernet cable, the browser will immediately connect to the internet and load web pages.
I'm assuming the ethernet connection is taking precedence over the wireless connection?
I can't imagine that there is not a way to set this up. If Windows can do it, I'm sure openSUSE can!
I Have an HP Pavilion G6. I recently installed openSUSE after having no luck with another linux distribution. I was told openSUSE is more compatible with laptops, so I figured I'd give it a try. I am now facing the same problem I had been facing w/ the other distribution (Ubuntu). My Network Adapter doesn't seem to be recognized by any linux operating systems. It is a Ralink 802.11b/g/n WiFi adapter. When I open the "network" tab, my home wifi is not listed, nor are any around me. In fact, I can't even open the "wireless" tab.
I've installed any recent drivers for my adapter, and I went to extensive lengths to try to solve the issue on my previous linux distribution. I don't know what output to give you from the terminal, nor do I really know any commands to look for anything. On a side note, I had been messing with my touchpad application, trying to set my preferences. I check the boxes for horiz. and vertic. scrolling with two fingers, and apply. They don't work. I check the boxes for using two finger tap to do something, and three finger tap to do something else.
I'm running 64 bit openSUSE 11.4 with KDE. I would like to install Wi Fi Radar. where I can obtain the RPM for it? I have looked but can only find older versions of it for older versions of SUSE..
View 5 Replies View RelatedI currently have a WiFi network at home that serves two PC's, a Laptop (all SUSE 11.3) and a couple of WiFi radios. I also use IPCop as the Firewall. The system currently uses 802.11g, but the PC's and Laptop really struggle to achieve any reasonable internet data speeds, particularly as their RF range to the Wireless Router is very disappointing, so I have a couple Wireless Access Points. Unfortunately, whilst these WAPs might slightly improve RF coverage, connecting to the Router via one of them only serves to slow down the internet upload and download speeds even further. (Not much point in paying for expensive 4M internet access if I am only achieving a typical download of 500-600k!)
I want to completely replace my 802.11g with 802.11n - to both improve range and throughput. I'm looking at the 'Netgear Range Max Dual Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router' as this also has 2.4GHz (my WiFI radios are only 2.4GHz compatible). Unless, of course, anyone has any good reason to recommend I DON'T purchase it? My problem is that I am struggling to find up to date, accurate information that can advise me on which 802.11n (2.4GHz and 5GHz) PCI cards, PCMCIA and USB Adapters are compatible with SUSE.

however when I try to use the command to install the driver ( sudo ndiswrapper -i bcmwl5.inf) I get in return " couldn't open bcmwl5.inf: No such file or directory at /usr/sbin/ndiswrapper-1.9 line 219."
Im assuming this is because I extracted the file " R174291" in the wrong place. all I did was use the extract here. since i loaded the file unto a usb stick that means it was extracted unto the usb. I also tried extracting unto the desktop but is till get the same error. can anyone tell me what i'm doing wrong?

I deemed the built-in WiFi to be flaky, so I installed a WiFi PC Card.bOpenSUSE 11.2 stock GNOME install out of the box, is there a way to disable just the flaky WiFi interface with Network Manager? It seems I can disable all WiFi or enable all WiFi but not individual interfaces selectively. If I connect to my router, the flaky interface wants to act as the dominant interface and makes my connection slow and unreliable.
I hate to make comparisons with Windows, but it's very obvious how to do it there. Is this something I can do with Network Manager or in GNOME? Or is this something deeper, changing configuration files with a text editor or recompiling kernel?
My WiFi can connect to internet without any problem, until I plug my ethernet cable ...then I lose internet.
So the question is : how do I configure my ip/dns and stuff to still have internet when I'm plugged by cable at the same time! it was working on windows ;-)
Running openSuse 11.2-64 on a DualCore / 2Gb machine.I have 3 nfs shares described in my /etc/fstabAll three were mounted at boot time when I was connecting to the network through the wired interface (eth0).I need to use the wireless interface, and even if that interface is up and running well (I use ifup), the nfs client doesn't start... if just after boot I do a mount -a or simply a nfs start, everything comes up and runs well.This machine will not be used by myself, and the users cannot just jump into a command line and type nfs start or even mount -a (they would need su privileges...)I have disabled the eth0, killed the eth0 config (with yast) edited /etc/sysconfig/nfs and setted the NFS_START_SERVICE to yes to force the gssd and idmapd to always start even if there was no nfs entry in fstab, but nothing changed.

I updated to 2.6.31.8 from Opensuse-11.2-update days ago and today it's my 1st time to try to connect to wifi with this new kernel.
Downgrade to 2.6.31.5 will solve this problem.

Having tried the latest SUSE live CD (not finding a way to use WiFi) I decided to install Mint (Katya release). Now it turns out there's a bug on Ubuntu/debian related linux distros in connection with Dell Laptops, specifically on WiFi cards by Broadcom. The kernel installed in my laptop is 2.6.34.6-47.fc13.i686, and the version of ndiswrapper is 1.54-4.fc13.29.i686. The problem is that i can't use any ndiswrapper options:

I just did a dual boot with OpenSuSE 11.2 and Windows 7. They both work perfect but for some reason the wireless (intel wifi 5100 AGN) and my wired network card (Atheros AR8131 Gigabyte controller)do not work in opensuse. Now the problem is that I do not have a clue about linux and therefore I don't know how to fix the problem. I searched the forum and I tried these commands "sudo /sbin/ifdown eth0" and "sudo /sbin/ifup wlan0" and both says something like device not connected/present (can't remeber exactly).

I can connect to the Internet on my WLAN just fine (using Opera) and can dload torrent files (using the same).
However, I have had trouble accessing some community repositories in the past, cannot synchronise with an NTP server (annoying since my battery is low and time and date are reset most reboots) and cannot use the lyrics function or Wikipedia function in Amarok. Nor can I connect to the net using Firefox (though conqueror works just fine...) I cannot download torrents on KTorrent either.
It seems that there is some sort of 'permission'/connectivity issue.
Where can I find set up information in order to share internet between my Ipod touch and my laptop? Laptop is connected to cable modem and has wifi interface (so no wireless router).
