View 5 Replies View RelatedMaking a live CD using tools such as livecd-creator seems like a good solution to create a bootable read-only image to install on Compact Flash. My goal is to prevent failure due to write cycle limits of Compact Flash memory. A secondary goal is to have the live CD available for troubleshooting. However, Usenet postings indicate challenges in making the live CD image on CF bootable. Has anyone succeeded in doing this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have never worked with Linux before but as part of my new job I need to format and install a program on a compact flash card. I have followed our procedure to the T but when i install the card I get a No bootable partition error. Here is what I'm doing. I go into Gnome terminal and change to my directory to "cd dcmsetupdir" (this may not be important but I want to give as much info as I can. Then I type "sudo ./format_cf". once this is complete (no errors detected), I type in "sudo ./install_cf" this seems to install correctly but when I boot up the unit with the card in I get the no bootable partition error.

I have downloaded the DVD iso for Fedora 14, however, I do not want to burn a DVD for installation, and would like to be able to perform the upgrade from a USB flash drive. Where can I find information that will explain how to make a bootable flash drive that can install Fedora 14?

I've rebooted the web browser and even the entire system, but still the plugin does not work.
I've just been looking at a simple but well done flash based graphic on the bbc. [URL]..it is about supercomputing (btw, isn't it great to see that linux is uber alles in that area of computing). My question is simple: How would one make some interactive online graphic like this on linux using open-source tools? ideally, I would also like it to work on the client side using only open-source tools. I've heard a little about openlazlo, but I don't really know what it does.

I recently installed lucid and installed compiz but some of very cool effect are missing and not listed under animation and also the wallpaper option is missing under the utility which i get to know by this forum in ubuntu 9.10. View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently something got updated and for a short while, before I restarted, the changing workspaces animation changed to something I liked better than the usual arrows boxes, but after the restart it changed back. The thing I liked was that when I use ctrl + alt to change to a different workspace, the animation shows what programs and windows are open at a particular workspace. This happened twice already and always after an update and before the necessary restart. I looked for an option to modify that but didn't find anything so far. I am using ubuntu 10.04. How can I change these options to my liking?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've recently installed Ubuntu on my laptop, and I installed Compiz from the software center. I went to the animations section and set different animations, but they don't take effect. I've tried disabling them and re-enabling, I've tried restarting, but nothing is working. What can I do to fix this?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have this issue: i can't write in Cyrillic inside my flash application: http:[url]....I can't write if i type from keyboard. At the place of normal characters i get some strange ones.If i use the virtual keyboard included in my program, it works properly.(now i use Karmic, but this problem there was also in previous editions)I think should be something about fonts, but i don't know exactly what to do.
View 8 Replies View RelatedYesterday, I installed a new theme for my laptop (Ubuntu 11.04(32-bit)) and soon after, I noticed that the animations I set up were not showing up anymore. Before the installation, everything worked fine. The theme is called MacBuntu 11.04. (Not the original one)
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'd like to make regular backups of my flash drives, but I don't plug them in regularly. Because of this, I can't just use a scheduled backup application to back them up. Does anyone know of an incremental backup application that will automatically run backups on media as soon as it's mounted?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI currently have my open/close animation set to Glide in Compiz. However, aside from normal windows like Chrome and Nautilus, the glide effect is applied to Avants animations.I would like the Avant animations to fade in and not use the glide effect.I have looked at the rules and have done a little tinkering, but I haven't found the rule that would make this work.
View 4 Replies View RelatedFor some reason, I can enable window minimize animations, and dodge and roll up, but no matter what I set for open and close animations in ccsm, they won't work. The window just pops up without an animation.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there any Linux tool that will take a SWF file and output some kind of video format? Note that I don't want a tool which will re-encode an embedded FLV or MP4, I want to take a standard Flash movie and render it as a video.I found a reference to dump-gnash in the GNU Manual, but having installed the gnash package on Fedora I don't have that command.
View 1 Replies View Relatedevery here and there i enter a page where a box pops up:Additional plugins are required to display all the media on this page . After a number of steps I am at a page by Adobe, and I download what seems to be a generic package (Ubuntu will of course be there). But its instalation has never proved helpful. Still the same pop-up. Are there binaries for Slack or a way to get the sources?

I am trying to troubleshoot an application that is generating several segfaults with an error 14, but the application is not crashing. The program continues to run. I would assume I can connect to a running process to debug it, but I'm not sure what to gather. The program has several background processes associated with it so I'm sure I'll need to attach to the actual internal process. Does anyone have any experience in this to offer some insight?
