Is there any Linux tool that will take a SWF file and output some kind of video format? Note that I don't want a tool which will re-encode an embedded FLV or MP4, I want to take a standard Flash movie and render it as a video.I found a reference to dump-gnash in the GNU Manual, but having installed the gnash package on Fedora I don't have that command.

I've searched on google for a long while, and found that while this appears to be a problem encountered by multiple people, but there are no workarounds posted anywhere. Here is the error message that I am getting:
Unpacking of 'asymptote-1.92-1.fc12.i686.rpm' failed at /usr/share/perl5/Alien/Package/Rpm.pm line 153.
I've tried running the following variants of commands and all fail with the same error:
sudo alien --to-deb --scripts --keep-version asymptote-1.92-1.fc12.i686.rpm
sudo alien -d asymptote-1.92-1.fc12.i686.rpm
sudo alien -k asymptote-1.92-1.fc12.i686.rpm
The errors reported by others are on a variety of packages, so it seems to me that it is an bug with alien itself and not with the package, but that is only a guess.
And related to this, Alien is version 8.69, perl 5.8.8 and ubuntu is 8.04.
I'm trying to convert the encoding of multiple files in a directory and I try to do it as follows.

The first command goes well by generating utf8 files from all txt files, but the second command fails with error message. Could someone enlighten me about the mistake in the command and share a workable solution?
I have a movie split into 3 iso image files, say, movie-1.iso,movie-2.iso, and movie-3.iso I did the following:

the files for disk2, disk3 are exactly the same except disk2 has 2 .vob files instead of 3. Can I make this work by changing the names of some of these files before merging them into one directory and then running the mkisofs command to create a new single iso image? If so, what names do I give so that the movie plays correctly? If not, just how do you do this?

Does extra software need to be installed to view video files as thumbnails in Dolphin? Or, am I doing something wrong and everyone else who uses Dolphin after installing Kubuntu gets thumbnail previews of their video files? See the attached picture showing a preview of a graphics file. I installed VLC media player and all the files will play in it. If I click on file properties in Nautilus for the files that won't play, it says "Creating Properties window. You can stop this operating by clicking cancel." But it never actually shows me the file properties.

This is to get support of my new Intel DH67CL motherboard.have fantastic display 1920x1080, and debian detected all of the hardware.It plays sound, ..... videos etc. But whenever I try to open an avi file though movie player or vlc the desktop freezes. I could move the mouse pointer, but no reaction to clicks. I can change to terminal by Alt+Ctrl+F1, and then has to reboot. How to troubleshoot this

Example, NVIDIA 8600 using the default 11.4 open source drivers (nouveau?) shows a black screen when VLC uses "Accelerated video output".However, installing the proprietary NVIDIA drivers, VLC will successfully show the movie using "Accelerated video output".To clarify the default VLC installation with "Accelerated video output" ticked - works with proprietary NVIDIA drivers - and doesn't without.

Previously I would have used Handbrake to do my video conversions however the new version download on their site doesnt work with 10.10 for some reason and both handbrake and gtk gui are missing when I look in the ubuntu software updates.
Every time I use Movie Pllayer to play DVD movie, it just hang on there and not responding,so I must click the 'Force Quit' button to close it.What should I do to overcome this problem? Is there any other software which can play DVD movie?
