For some reason, I can enable window minimize animations, and dodge and roll up, but no matter what I set for open and close animations in ccsm, they won't work. The window just pops up without an animation.

I went to the animations section and set different animations, but they don't take effect. I've tried disabling them and re-enabling, I've tried restarting, but nothing is working. What can I do to fix this?

However, aside from normal windows like Chrome and Nautilus, the glide effect is applied to Avants animations.I would like the Avant animations to fade in and not use the glide effect.I have looked at the rules and have done a little tinkering, but I haven't found the rule that would make this work.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI don't like the fact that, when the dock is hidden because I am using other windows such as opera, it appears again when, with the mouse's icon, I go across the region where the dock is. Is there a way to solve it? I want that, if there is another window open, the dock is always hidden. what is the difference between "intellihide" and "window dodge" for the behaviour?

View 3 Replies View RelatedNew 11.3 install and working the wiggles out one at a time. If I minimize a window on the desktop it just disappears. Any and all open windows. Can't figure out how to maximize it again. They still active somewhere because I have to kill it (crtl / esc / kill process) to close Firefox and any other windows regardless of the application. Where are they going and how I do I modify this behavior

When using Docky and clicking the window minimize button the windows will randomly minimize to the cursor and not to the dock icon. Pressing the dock icon will work as expected. I have read through the Docky bug reports and it seems it has something to do with Docky and compiz losing the window minimize region.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a desktop computer and a NAS, running Kubuntu & Ubuntu. I use WOL to wake the NAS and then mount the drives (NFS) on my desktop.
I've placed an icon on my KDE desktop which wakes the NAS and mounts the drives, this works great, but I've set it to run in terminal so I can enter the password for mounting the drives. This leaves me with an open window which I don't want to close because the NAS is set to shutdown 15 minutes after ssh logout.
My question is how can I minimize the open terminal window to an icon on my taskbar?
My gf recently upgraded her Dell laptop from Karmic to Lucid but has since experienced some issues with the windowing system. Is called Metacity? - I'd call it the "chrome" of the windows, eg. the title bar, maximise & close buttons etc.The description of the problem she's given me is as follows: "Every time I turn my laptop on it comes up with a small window and when I access the internet, it wont let me maximise/minimise the window.
I have to go to System/Appearances/Visual Effects and reset it to Normal. This then resolves the problem. But the next time I open my laptop, the settings have been forgotten and I have to go through the same process again." It's taken me ages to steer her away from windows but she's had a few problems since upgrading and she's thinking about heading back to the "dark side"...
I was messing with the color for the panels and some how every time I minimize a window the tab never shows on the bottom or the top panel, you know to reopen it. It just disappears and then I have to reopen the program.

if I hit F11 then push the mouse off the top of the screen the whole window moves up and I can see minimize/maximixe/close then.
Whenever I minimize a window, it disappears into the right corner of the screen. There is no sign of it in the panel(bottom) also. What should I do so that I can relaunch the windows from the panel.

This is particularly useful, for example, when cutting and pasting commands from the browser to the terminal and I recommend it. View 2 Replies View RelatedI have firefox 5 on my old box. But the border disappear regularly (in flwm). how to then minimize the window? (where firefox is). Perhaps there is a "ctrl something" for making appearing again the flwm border?
In the remaining time, I have to close firefox with "File Exit" when I want to start another programm or go into another window. I desinstalled/reinstalled firefox, then the border was again then and i could minimize/maximize the window..
So I have these three bars that I suppose are some kind of left over fragment of windows I had up the last time I rebooted. Anyhow, whenever I boot now, these three bars show on my desktop, and I cant get rid of them, they dont have the minimize, maximize or close buttons. Yet when I click the, "show desktop" buttom, they then minimize. HOwever, they don't show up on my window list. I've tried restarting my xsession and that didnt work, I've restarted nautilus that didn't work, I cant right click on them, I already tried xkill and force quite and that doesnt work. They're just always there.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am using Debian Wheezy with LXDE and I am using the monitor resolution as 1280x1024. Now the Window maximize, minimize buttons look tiny and its pretty irritating. Is there anyway I can make them bigger ? I tried googling but whatever documentation I found was regarding GNOME not LXDE since not many people use it. I don't want to try any online themes of Linux just want the buttons to be bigger. Is there anyway ?

There is a question about this in this thread but the thread title did not have any of the above words in it and since most "new" folks don't think to use the "posts" option, I thought I'd make a new titled post.
This seems to be a big irritant of a lot of people around the net with Gnome 3 so I'm going to confirm what other people have said about how to fix the situation.
In "add software" enter this search term:
gconf
You will see quite a few returns, you should click the following:
A process-transparent configuration system (G Conf1-2.3 yada yada)
Graphical Gconf untilities (it may be pulled with the above however).
Install it/them.
One can then type "Gconf2" in terminal and it will open but then close when the terminal is closed, or one can go to activities/applications/tweak advanced settings( the symbol will be the same as for settings in Gnome 3).
In the "Shell" button one will see "Arrangement of buttons on the title bar". Surprisingly, "All" will already be apparent. One need merely verify that it is on "all".
Close gconf.
Nothing will have happened in terms of new buttons even if one closes and opens, say FireFox.
Then reboot.
After the reboot, all three buttons will be present.
There are not a LOT of configuration items in gconf2 but this one seems to be of paramount importance to a lot of people.
One can also do it from command line, and if someone wants to post that please feel free it won't hurt my feelings.
After upgrading from 10.10 to 11.04, at first everything worked fine. Then i changed the compiz configuration to cube, confirmed some questions, and now i have no window decorations. No icons for close, minimize, maximize. No resizing by mouse. No title bar.
In the launcher, i lost applications and files&?, and in the top menu bar, i lost the leftmost part, where some menus and the Ubuntu icon were found.
1) How do I align my desktop icons to a grid?
2) Is it possible to move the close, maximize, and minimize buttons to the left side of the window? I prefer that to the since I'm used to GNOME Unity.
The unity sidebar is supposed to dodge windows according to the default, and according to the settings in the unity prefs in compiz. This is not the case, as can be seen in this screenshot. Any idea what this could be caused by? It's sporadic when it shows up, but when it happens it does it until I reboot.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI was using Compiz, and was going to check out the 3DBox add on. I clicked it, enabled it, and then my windows vanished. I rebooted. Then, when I came back, all my windows open now in the top left of the screen, and the close, minimize and maximize icons are gone. I cannot even see the top bar of a window to move it.
View 4 Replies View Relatedi'm not sure for using the correct channel here but i hope someone out there can answer my little questions. 1st in older version i was able to change the settings of the terminal look as the font color, background color and so on. I was also able to define a default window size of a new terminal window. But since after upgrading to to the first release this year and a complete new installation of the current release Maverick i do not find this option anymore. Is there a way how to set up the terminal default window size?
