Feb 27, 2010

At the place of normal characters i get some strange ones.If i use the virtual keyboard included in my program, it works properly.(now i use Karmic, but this problem there was also in previous editions)I think should be something about fonts, but i don't know exactly what to do.

Ubuntu :: Permission To Write INSIDE A Directory?

Mar 9, 2010

How do I use "chmod" command so that it allows me to write a file inside a certain directory ? This directory has permissions in the formdrwxr-xr-xOnce I try to write a file there, it says "Permission denied" ! Don't advise to use "sudo", since the file is created by some executable program compiled from a source code. If I was creating the file myself, I wouldn't have gone to this forum.

Programming :: Does Declaring Variable Inside A Function Give An Extra Overhead On An Application

May 14, 2011

Does declaring variable inside a function give an extra overhead on an application? Would it be better to declare the variable globally and just reuse it? Example

Code:

#include <blah>
char mybuffer[2048];
int main()

[code]....

The only difference is the declaration of my variable. Since myfunction() will be called many times will it add an additional overhead if it will create mybuffer[2048] over and over?

Ubuntu :: Should Flash Player Be Using 60% Of My Dual Core Cpu - Ati Drivers - Pics Inside

May 3, 2010

Now this is a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.04. I have done nothing but follow the steps on installing flash and ati driver from the main site. I have this problem on my desktop too which also has ATI graphics but with a AMD cpu. The desktop was upgraded from Ubuntu 9.10 and the driver installed from ATI site like my laptop. This is really troubling because while the video is in full screen its using over 90% of my cpu?? Then my laptop gets really hot so I just switch back to Windows 7(which only uses 15%). Last time I had this problem was with the FGLRX proprietary drivers on Ubuntu 9.10 with the desktop.

Ubuntu :: Cyrillic Fonts Support - Can't Extract Files

Jul 1, 2011

my problem is that I can't extract some files because of a problem with cyrillic fonts (at least, this is what I suspect). The point is that I download some kind of files, which are fully functional to extract and open in windows but in Ubuntu trying the same thing, ends with an error. Files are downloaded from a russian web, so I think the fonts are cyrillic, which is the root of the problem. In windows they are shown as some kind of rare ASCII string but it's OK to open them.

The problem when trying in Ubuntu is that the file is shown as a large string with question marks '?' replacing all non-latin characters and it may cause problem, as it is the wildcard shell character in Linux. Renaming the file seems as an impossible task too. I have to process many of these files. Does Anyone know how can I avoid windows to do this? I tried to install many packages for cyrillic/russian support through synaptic nut it didn't seem to work.

Fedora :: Cannot Type In Cyrillic In GNOME

Jun 2, 2010

I just installed Fedora 13 and i noticed a very annoying problem. I cannot type in Cyrillic in any of GNOME`s applications, however i can type in Cyrillic in other programs - like Firefox for example. I`ve tried in Rhythmbox, network manager (the configuration dialogs), gedit, nautilus, etc. I`ve also tried in Firefox where it works and for now is my only non GNOME application. The curios thing is that Cyrillic does work in gnome-terminal... I am currently using Bulgarian phonetic traditional layout but i`ve also tried with Russian and Macedonian without success. My Fedora installation is fully updated.

Fedora Hardware :: Can't Write To Flash Memory. Automatically Set As Read-only

Jan 21, 2010

I used to be able to write to my SD memory card but just recently it is being automatically mounted as read-only. I checked the read-only tab and tried to set it to the lock position, and to the unlock position. Neither position makes a difference. It was working normally a few days ago. I also tried changing the permission using su

ls -lt gives the following result
drwxr-xr-x 4 col root 16384 1970-01-01 01:00 CANON_DC
chmod chgrp and chown in su mode don't change anything either.

I tried mounting a different 1GB SD card and it works perfectly. I noticed that when I mount this card I get a window asking me what I want to do, but I don't get this on the other card. It must some kind of setting related to the unwriteable card.

I am using F10 2.6.27.41-170.2.117.fc10.i686

The CF card in the adapter works. I'm expecting to see a block device in /dev but nothing appears lspci:

General :: Embedded Webserver (mysql) On A Compact Flash: Reduce Read / Write Operations?

Jul 7, 2011

I've developed a tiny webserver for home automation out of an ALIX 1D, and based on a debian lenny. It runs very smoothly and is now able to operate quite a lot of different equipment from a webapp. But i'm not sure how I should handle the compact flash, regarding read/write limitations. From what I've read the partitioning should be ext2, which would disallow the journalisation of the system. A utility to 'flatten' the repartition of write cycles exists, would it be relevant to use if the partition is ext2 ?

I will also disable all logging in execution mode (a debug mode will provide the logs). Is there any other parameters I have to take into account for maximum reliability (i.e. does the system randomly write in some files for various and potentially turned off purposes)? As for the mysql database, it's not important data, and it's actually reconstructed every time the server boots. Given this, is there a way to store the db in RAM rather than in a file? I'm not sure it's the right place to ask, but I sometimes see redirection to here from stack overflow.
