Ubuntu :: Wallpaper Not Displaying Correctly?

Jan 14, 2011

I don't exactly know how to describe the problem, that's why I included a screenshot of the desktop wallpaper. You can see a small copy of the desktop image on the left corner and the whole desktop with the same image. I changed the desktop and the same thing happened.

Ubuntu :: 10.04 - Compiz Freaked Out - Desktop Did Not Show The Wallpaper Correctly

May 28, 2010

I saw my computer's desktop did not show the wallpaper correctly and I could actually see INTO my other virtual desktops....its as is compiz decided it did not want to work correctly: You can see into my other virtual desktops, as you can see I have an application open in the desktop to the left of the current one.

I can still maximize windows and it takes up the whole screen as it should, but animations and anything on the left side (dead space side) seem to get stuck...I have to rotate my cube and rotate back before everything works correctly. I know I did get a few new updates around the time this started happening, so hopefully someone out there has experienced something similar.

CentOS 5 Hardware :: X Window Not Displaying Correctly?

Feb 28, 2009

I am running Cent0S 5.2 and am trying to get the gui running from startx at the console. When it loads half the screen is scrambled and I can see parts of the desk top. it looks like a video driver issue. I ran system-config-display --reconfig --set-depth=16 --set-resolution=1024x768 and then tried system-config-display --reconfig --set-depth=16 --set-resolution=800x600. It came out a little better but still half scrambled.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: XBox Not Displaying Albums Correctly From Fuppes

Jan 3, 2010

I've been through the forums, and can't seem to find the answers. Thanks to EVERYONE who has posted fuppes related advice though, you've filled my last 3 days with so much fun! I'm a complete newbie with linux. I had a half hearted fiddle about 6 years ago, but nothing since. But I've decided I want rid of the horror that is Windows, and stumbled upon Ubuntu. Installled it last week. First priority, videos and music to the XBox (can't lose Microsoft!). I'm using Ubuntu 9.10.

So, after much, much, much reinstalling and playing with config files, I now have Fuppes streaming to my XBox. I can stream both audio and video, and I'm even happy with the folder structure in the Video section too! (Eventually! ).

1) When rebuilding the database, I get:

Code:

TagLib: MPEG::Header::parse() -- Invalid sample rate.
TagLib: MPEG::Header::parse() -- Invalid sample rate.
TagLib: MPEG::Properties::read() -- Page headers were invalid.
Segmentation fault

The line before is repeated lots and lots of times before it gives up. However, it still seems to have created the database, because all I then have to do is start Fuppes up and rebuild the folder structure and it works.

2) I spent ages trawling through the forums to get this far, and I did get music sorted by artist, album, etc. However, when sorted by album, each album shows lots of times. Is there a way to stop this? I only want each album to show once. Seems to mainly affect compilation albums with multiple artists.

For anyone who hasn't got as far as me, persist! You'll get there eventually. I'll attach my fuppes.cfg and vfolder.cfg. I am using version 0.660, and used a mixture of advice from all the tutorials to get here. Use this guide:[URL] but later on in that guide in someone's reply, there's a link to the new version.

I also had to install some additional packages (this was guess work...using Synaptic Package Manager), to ensure that during the ./configure, the Taglib and mpeg4ip/mp4v2 are both enabled, otherwise you have no hope of your XBox sorting your music. if you edit your config files in the fuppes directory, open a terminal and run the following to put them in the place fuppes actually looks for them!:

Code:

sudo cp fuppes/fuppes.cfg .fuppes
sudo cp fuppes/vfolder.cfg .fuppes

[code]....

However, later when I restarted my computer, Wicd started, but I can't connect to my network, it shows up as <hidden>, I can connect to linksys, so I know that wireless is working on that computer. I know that there's nothing wrong with my wireless router, because I can connect to my network in this computer.

Ubuntu :: No Wallpaper In Gnome 3?

Jun 2, 2011

Trying Ubuntu yet again (seems to occur every 6 months or so!)

I've installed Natty, and wasn't so keen on Unity so I decided to try Gnome 3. Not sure if I prefer it either but better than unity I think so giving it a go.

Anyway, my problem is that I don't have a wallpaper and changing it doesn't have any effect, it's just a solid colour.

At first I didn't have a desktop at all but changing a setting in the gnome 3 tweak tool (Have file manager handle the desktop > on) fixed that. Then I went to install nautilus elementary but that messed up my wallpaper, hence it's now blank. I've reverted to Nautilus now but I'm not sure elementary actually worked as it didn't look any different.

Ubuntu :: Changing Log-in Wallpaper In 10.04?

Jul 25, 2011

I just wrote a little script to help anyone out if they want to do this. Just download loginWallpaper.sh open your terminal and cd to the download directory run

Code:

sudo chmod 744 loginWallpaper

then run

Code:

./loginWallpaper.sh

and follow the prompts Make sure the pic you want to use is a .JPG and is in your home directory. Choose Option 1 on your first run. It will move the pic to the proper directory on the system and will open the Gnome Appearance Preferences at the log-in screen. After you run Option 1 logout, goto Background then Add button. Select your wallpaper and "BOOM" it changes. Log back in and run the script again

Code:

./loginWallpaper.sh

only use Option 2 to keep the Gnome Appearance Preferences from opening again.

Ubuntu :: Missing Wallpaper And Some Flash?

Jun 13, 2010

Im having a bit of a problem with my wallpaper and flash. The wallpaper was fine up until yesterday, when i changed my window transparency, using the murrine engine. It has dissapeared but everything else is there (see Screenshot[/URL]), and if i attempt to choose any picture, the background goes black, and all icons etc dissapear. The tool bar remains though, and a workaround i have discovered is to run nautilus and log out, and back in. This brings back the grey screen.

As i said, i made my windows transparent using murrine, i had a lttle play around with a new emerald theme while i was there. Im running emerald, compiz, the apearance thing, and gnome colour chooser, so maybe there is a clash? Since the wallpaper dissapeared, im unable to view som flash, i can hear it, but not see it. For instance, ..... will load upnormal but where the video is, its just grey. I can right click etc as you would if it was a video, but just no picture.Any help would be greatly appreciated, my specs are on the screenshot, and if you need any more info ill be glad to post. I also have yuuguu installed if someone would like to help remotly?

Ubuntu :: How To Remember Wallpaper Settings

I cane never decide on a single wallpaper so I managed to put together this little script, mostly by stealing from other people, and have it run on start up.The first and most important is that my computer doesn't remember the settings for each picture, it just uses whatever the previous settings were. Is there a way to fix this? and the second very minor problem is that sometimes the script uses no picture so I just have whatever backround color was set as the wallpaper.
