Ubuntu :: WMV Files Don't Plays In Totem?
Aug 12, 2010I want to play .wmv files. I can play them in VLC successfullt but they are not getting played in Totem. I've installed all the codecs. What to do??

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Video Plays In WMP But Not In VLC / Totem Or MPlayer
Feb 10, 2010My partner is a teacher and has downloaded some videos from a teacher's resource site but can't seem to play them in Ubuntu. They play fine in Windows XP using Windows Media Player but they only play a few seconds in VLC or Totem and then freeze. The files in question seem to be normal MPG (MPEG-1) video files but somehow VLC and Totem choke on them. I have installed all restricted video formats including w32codecs but still no joy. My partner is threatening to go back to Windows!

May 31, 2010I'm on Kubuntu 9.10, using Totem to play .wmv files, and certain of them cause the player to search for an audio codec (wmap?) that is never found. The video played without audio after that. So I followed advice to remove ~/.gstreamer-0.10, and reboot. A new .gstreamer-0.10 directory appeared, but now, Totem will not even play the video. It recognizes the audio codec however. The video codec shows up as "Windows Media..." but resolution is 0 x 0, and nothing ever appears in the window. I tried uninstalling and re-installing w32codecs and non-free-codecs, and removing the registry files under ~/gstreamer-0.10 and using gst-inspect to rebuild the database,
but nothing helps.
OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Totem Still Plays Nothing And Get No Thumbnails Either
Jul 25, 2010SM player works yes, but how do i get the thumbnail previews. I did a fresh install of opensuse, i installed the updates they Yast told me to. I followed the guide precisely this time, using the command line method and encountered some problems. 4 files, asked to be broken or use obsolete at the point where i have to do the switch to packman repository. I chose use obsolete cuz i didn't want to break anything. When i tried to set an mkv to open in SMplayer the optionw asn't there, only banshee and totem. I opened Yast and it told me to install opensuse codec installer and another file can't remember) which i did. The option to open files in SMplayer, Xine etc came up then.
I'd like to get the thumbnails and I'd like to see Totem work as well. I know i don't need to, but considering that i downloaded the neccesary codecs, i expect it to work :/ or am i wrong with that assumption On a totally unrelated note, is there a way to increase the resolution of the bootloader? i'd like to be 1920x1200 to full my screen
Fedora :: Totem Plays Video Too Fast Since Kernel .40?
Aug 7, 2011Since kernel update 2.6.40 Totem plays video like in Fast Forward (no sound). Reverting to 2.6.38 solves the problem.

But what I'm missing is integration with nautilus since drag and drop won't work from nautilus to XMPlayer. I have to navigate to the rar file manually on the file-open window and since Nautilus puts it's mounts on /home/[username]/.gvfsit's a bit cumbersome.

Jan 7, 2010Since upgrading to 64-bit Karmic, I can't play any WMA files, neither in Rhythmox, Totem, VLC, or mplayer. It used to work well with 64-bit Intrepid.
I've added the medibuntu repos and installed ubuntu-restricted-extras (including w64codecs). Still, when rhythmbox or totem opens a WMA file, they search for an appropriate codec and don't find anything.

If I click on file properties in Nautilus for the files that won't play, it says "Creating Properties window. You can stop this operating by clicking cancel." But it never actually shows me the file properties.

When I tried to install these plugins it pops out a menu that says All packages are already installed. This happens for mp4 and flv formats too.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: DVD .iso Made In K3b Plays On TV But Not XP?
Mar 12, 2010I have a home movie that is currently in Video_TS format (.bup/.vob files). I burned the movie using K3b and it works awesome in both Ubuntu and on my DVD player with the television. BUT the thing will not play in XP! I understand this is because XP is the work of the devil, but that is not important. The disc shows 4Gb used (in XP) but only gives the title. I even made sure hidden files were visible, just in case somehow the movie was invisible. I have tried burning my DVD directly from the video_ts files in K3b, and first making an .iso file, then going over to XP to burn the DVD using Nero...annnnnd same thing. I can watch them on the TV and 'buntu but not XP.
What have I done wrong? Advice? Need more info? invariably someone wants to ask the irrelevant question "Why do you need to watch it in Windows?"

There is one problem: my microphone plays through my computer speakers but I can't record it or use skype with it (I mainly want to use skype). Jan 21, 2010In Hardy Heron, after installing xine and the usual stuff, and setting xine as the default dvd player in /etc/gnome/defaults.list in the usual way, and also linking /dev/dvd to /dev/dvd2, when I pop in a commercial dvd for autoplay, or select xine from the context menu to play it, it starts to play fine, but also produces the "source can't be read" messagebox, which goes away after being OK-clicked 10 (exactly!!) times.Launching xine directly from the application menu does not produce this problem.

Feb 12, 2010when i play a song in banshee, or a videos video, i get no sound at all. however, in banshee 1 3 minute song will appear to play in about 20 seconds (the progress bar speeds along), and videos videos play back in ultra-fast motion with no sound. weirdly, when i go to system settings -> multimedia, and click test on the default sound device, the kde login sound plays back fine. this worked when i first installed; does anyone know what's going on here? i think it may be a problem with gstreamer?
