How would I go about this, preferably from the command line?
I have recently swapped over to debian (KDE 32bit) from linux mint, however vlc only plays audio, no video (This is for .avi's, .wmv's and rtsp streams, probably others but that what i have available to try). I've installed debian multimedia and dragon player will play .avi's fine, though crashes with .wmv's .

I recently switched my usb external soundcard from an M-Audio Fast Track Pro to an Edirol UA-25EX (i can get 24bit working on it - that's why). After making the switch, all audio programs are working just fine except for Audacious. When i try to play audio, i get 00:00 and no playing. The output plugin is ALSA and the audio device is UA-25EX. I don't understand why it's not playing the audio.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm having a really random intermittent fault with video files... all kinds... and also happens with different media players... they lock up the entire system but when i reboot they'll play fine...could this be the graphics card? it's a Sparkle Nvidia Geforce 9500.... is there any reccomendations for a suitable replacement that doesn't cost the earth... I'm looking at starting 3D animation too, so was looking to upgrade anyway...there was some kind of error that randomly popped up once or twice when it was playing files...
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter experimenting with version 6.0 of ffmpeg there were a few issues i was not totally happy with, so i decided to downgrade back to the 2008 build of ffmpeg.However now whenever i encode a libxvid/libmp3lame movie with ffmpeg (using the exact same settings I have always used), the output created .avi file is reported by KDE as having:

This is truly odd (and quite annoying) as the .avi movie plays correctly with sound on both Smplayer and Kaffeine, so i don't think it is a codec issue, but it just does not display the correct audio codec tag anymore. how the metabar properties are controlled in KDE?, or if there is a config that I can adjust to make the new created output .avi's report the Audio Codec correctly as 'mp3'? (like it used to).Also, does anyone know if ffmpeg 6.0 may have left some files behind on my system that is causing this sudden odd behavior?
I have 9.04 and I recently "got" a 13.2GB 1080p HD movie. When I try to play it, it's choppy and mosaic like. The audio plays fine, but the video jumps and I can't get a clean picture except for maybe 15% of the time. I have to hold down the spacebar so it plays and pauses very quickly for the video to even proceed. I've updates VLC and Movie Player and I've downloaded many codecs and I can't seem to fix it.EDIT: I can play it in Movie Player without the pixel/mosaic-like effect, but it too is extremely choppy.

But what I'm missing is integration with nautilus since drag and drop won't work from nautilus to XMPlayer. I have to navigate to the rar file manually on the file-open window and since Nautilus puts it's mounts on /home/[username]/.gvfsit's a bit cumbersome.

Whenever I used to install Windows, I used to install the corresponding audio drivers(in order to listen to the music). The problem I am facing is that I do not know how to install the audio drivers(if they really exist in linux Mint 10 operating system). As a result I am not able to listen to any audio file due to lack of corresponding audio driver programs. make proper configurations settings so that I can listen to audio files in Linux Mint version 10.

/home/mike/Videos/newTv.m3u
What am I doing wrong cause when I try and launch it I get this error:
Details: Failed to execute child process "/home/mike/Videos/newTv.m3u" (Permission denied)
Something command line that can parse and output an m3u file correctly. For example, not cdlabelgen.
All I want is a simple list of songs to print out to include with any audio cds I burn to use as a label in a slim case. No fancy labels with graphics and this or that. Brasero has a cover editor but the formatting is all screwed up and playing with text to get it to print correctly is a drag.
It would be cool if there were a script, too. Something that uses mp3cd. So a fella could fire-up his termianl-fu and run $ ./handiness.sh which would:
burn an audio disc from the playlist (which mp3cd does, of course)print out a nicely formatted list of the tracks sized correctly for a slim cd case cover.
That would be cool.

I want to play .wmv files. I can play them in VLC successfullt but they are not getting played in Totem. I've installed all the codecs. What to do??
View 9 Replies View RelatedTotem by default shows some sort of tags (if found) and not file names in the playlist. I don't like this, because I use Totem for video only and videos I get from the web usualy contains URLs and other such nonsense in the tags so I never know which file is which.
Can I somehow force Totem to always display file names?
Ive looked around and can't seem to find an answer to this. If I use any of my places menus, home, downloads etc, M-Player starts, not Firefox and uploads all the files to a playlist

I'm trying to write a small script that I can have another program run automatically.
All I want the script to do is play a short .wav file on the system speaker just as it does when I mouse over it.
I Used Mplayer on my old system but I reloaded with 8.10 and I don't want to upgrade because I'm running zoneminder and the version I like is not in the repos for the latest versions of Ubuntu. And The repo is dead for 8.10 so I cant easily install mplayer.
I have an .avi file that is a clip from a security camera recording of an incident. I am trying to edit the video with an editor and I have an issue in just playing the video. When playing the video it opens and plays just fine but reversed and upside down. I don't see any settings in any of the players I have tried (VLC, etc.) to correct this. It plays fine from the Windows computer at work. I believe there may be some special codecs related to this particular security camera software. Does anyone know how I might deal with this to correct it?
