if I play an MP3 file in either Totem or Rhythmbox, it thinks it's streaming them, which prevents me from being able to skip to a certain part of the song and the progress bar is greyed out. How do I fix this?
View 6 RepliesIm running Fedora 11 x86_64. I enabled the rpmfusion repositories (free & non-free) and opened an MP3. The codecs installed correctly, but when I play them in either rhythmnox or totem, it plays but there are issues. Oddly, it depends on whether I ripped the mp3 myself (on Fedora 10, 196kbps CBR) or bought (play.com, 320kbps CBR).For the bought mp3s, the track length is displayed and the progress bar fills as the song progresses, but I cant skip to another part of the song. For the ripped mp3s, the player thinks it is streaming (track length unknown).
I thought it might be due to using ext4, but this happens even if i play them off an ext3 partition. The mp3s themselves are fine - they play perfectly in Ubuntu and WIndows.
I have Fedora 12 in my laptop. I can't open rhythmbox, totem movie player, nautilus etc. If I try to open through terminal, it reports that Warning: Unable to create "trees" RDF storage.Performance can be improved by upgrading librdf.I have installed all plugins for playing multimedia files.I searched for my problem but I could not find any solution. In addition to this I could not see any icons in GNOME desktop environment. If I try to open computer through PLACES in menu bar it reports that File Manager not responding.

I cannot seem to find plugins to play MP3's with totem. When I start it and try to play an MP3 it tells me "You do not have a decoder installed to handle this file. You might need to install the necessary plugins." Where can I find the plugin for Totem?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently installed fedora on my laptop and after update and everything else, I played an avi file by totem media player but it asked for Divx MPEG-4 Version 5 decoder and when I searched, it asked for GStreamer FFmpeg-based plug-ins to install. When I tried to install these plugins it pops out a menu that says All packages are already installed. This happens for mp4 and flv formats too.

I would like to control that Totem using my laptop (connected to the same router over wifi). How would I go about doing that? I connected to my desktop using SSH and tried to send signals to Totem, but nothing worked. I tried using VNC, and that was ineffective as well.

Totem and Banshee don't seem to want to play .avi files, Kaffeine, SMplayer work perfectly though. I followed the Multimedia guide, and switched system packages to Packman.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSince upgrading to 64-bit Karmic, I can't play any WMA files, neither in Rhythmox, Totem, VLC, or mplayer. It used to work well with 64-bit Intrepid.
I've added the medibuntu repos and installed ubuntu-restricted-extras (including w64codecs). Still, when rhythmbox or totem opens a WMA file, they search for an appropriate codec and don't find anything.
My totem crashes after several seconds of playing x264 .mkv files. Plays everything else fine (and my HD content better than .vlc so I'm not interested in switching). In terminal, the only output I get is 'Aborted'.

I installed VLC media player and all the files will play in it. If I click on file properties in Nautilus for the files that won't play, it says "Creating Properties window. You can stop this operating by clicking cancel." But it never actually shows me the file properties.

When I try watching HD or avi files with totem the sound and video skips then equalizes on its own, when I try in vlc same thing but I play with the sound until video and sound sync but there is slowness in video.mplayer won't start. I installed the gmplayer front end and I just get that but no video or sound, video won't play.

I thought, no biggie, I'll get everything back in order and just use the Missing Files list in Rhythmbox to figure what's missing.
Problem. Though the file count diminishes as Rhythmbox scans the library for file changes, nothing is being added to the Missing Files list. I have done this on two machines (one the server itself, the other across a Samba share). Same behaviour.
I have never seen Rb count down files and not add them to the Missing Files list.
I'm trying to get Rhythmbox to play my WMA files. I did some research and I found an old thread on the forums, and I tried what the people said, but I still can't get my WMA files to play and I can't post any replies Maybe there's something I'm missing?

Rhythmbox refuses to import m4a files. Reading up on the issue, all the answers tell me that I should install certain programs, that I already have. Also, rhythmbox says it needs the gstreamer m4a acc plugin, but I have all of the gstreamer thingys installed, as with FAAC. I'm on 11.3.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a Sansa mini-clip MP3 player. Now that I am using Ubuntu I wanted to totally redo my play lists. So using the Sansa menu, I formatted the MP3 player to start fresh. Then I opened Rythmbox and was going to import my MP3 files from my hard drive. Only problem is all of my MP3 files are grayed out on the import files menu. Then I installed Banshee and tried to import the MP3 files and they are grayed out in that program too.
why my MP3 files won't import into Rythmbox or Banshee?
Can Rhythmbox convert mp3 files? If so how. I found mp3 in the edit part but don't know how to add it.

First issue was I could not get MP3 to show as a "Preferred format", but then installed the "gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-multiverse package"; MP3 was then a "Preferred format" option. Now that MP3 is the preferred format, the CD is ripped in a "flac" format. Is there some conversion? I'm not well versed in music file formats.
