Ubuntu :: Using Cellphone Headset With Computer - Error "no File Transfer Occurs"
Nov 17, 2010
I have a bluetooth headset for a cellphone, which I would like to use with my Ubuntu computers. I'm currently trying to do this with a computer running Jaunty. I have successfully paired the headset with the computer. But when I try to send an audio file to the headset, I get the "Sending files via Bluetooth dialogue box, immediately followed by the error message:
Quote: org.openobex.Error.NotSupported and no file transfer occurs. I am able to do other Bluetooth operations with other devices - eg I can send/receive files between the computer and my cellphone. It just seems to me that using a Bluetooth cellphone headset is not supported, or that I am doing something wrong.
UPDATE: I just tried doing this with my other machine running 10.04, with similar results. It looks momentarily like it's going to transfer the file, then reports that "an unknown error occurred". Is it just not possible to use bluetooth headsets for cellphones with Ubuntu computers? That doesn't seem very likely: when the computer detects the headset, it reports it as being a "headset". So why won't it work? What am I doing wrong?
i have ubuntu karmic 9.10 and when i try to update anything or install anything the a very similar error occurs."(Reading database . . . 55%dpkg: unrecoverable fatal error , aborting: files list file for package `com.palm.net.precoddr.fcoaster' contains empty filenameit repeats this message 3 times then gives up i believe.

We are running into issues with a File Upload script written in PHP. We can upload files without issues except with .*x files (such as .docx) We are getting permission denied errors. The error occurs when we use move upload file, to the new directory within our PHP app. If we give the uploads folder 777 access, it works fine without error. I dont like that. So I set it to 775 (Also dont like this), but it didnt work until I gave group ownership to www-data (I really dont like this)
This issue only happens on our production server, which is Ubuntu 9.04, running Apache2.2 and PHP5 will all the newest updates. We also have all MIME's configured, and are able to download the file from Apache without error. The first thing we noticed before the file permissions error, was that the MIME type changed to .zip when we used mime content type function. But yet using the FILES array, it still showed .docx.
when i try to use apt an error occurs: dpkg: parse error, in file '/var/lib/dpkg/status' near line 27317 package 'virtualbox-3.0': error in Version string `3.0.4-50677_Debian_lenny': invalid character in revision number E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (2)
i tried to :
1- replace the file status with status-old 2- replace it with all the backups located in /var/backups/
I esablished a dual boot with Windows 7 and Ubuntu on separate partitions. Then, as I realised that Windows 7 was rubbish and Ubuntu annoyed me by losing wireless connectivity after an update, I decided to go back to Windows XP for a while. So I did what I probably shouldn't have done, and formatted the partition (or so I thought) with Ubuntu on, using Windows.
Now, on booting up the system, all I can get is the Grub Rescue prompt and nothing in the Bios menus seems to be of any assistance.
I've tried booting XP from a CD, but a blue screen error always occurs at the same point in the installation. I wonder if I should make a CD/external drive with Ubuntu on, reinstall it, and go from there?
I have an assigment to create UDP file transfer with checksum, but currently i have a problem in transferring the data. The problem is:A.I sent a text file that have approximately 200kb but in the client receive only 100kb... is it fair?B.For text file,I track the result and i found that its okay for the text file. Write counter show 1024 byte every packet i sent. But when i sent mp3 file or pdf file it doenst show like this. For mp3 the data sent every packet i sent is gradually decreased from 1024 byte 1020byte contiounusly.... For pdf data its seems random.
During upgrading from 8.04 to 10.04, I was asked several times what I wanted to do with menu.lst. I gave the same reply each time: "keep the local version currently installed". I wanted it the way I had when using 8.04; that is, not having the un-customizable grub menu I've experienced before with 10.04.
When I was done installing 10.04 and was going to reboot, the GRUB menu appears as it has before, and the Ubuntu entry says "Ubuntu 8.04", even though it's now 10.04. But when I choose "Ubuntu 8.04", the following error message occurs:
I am running Linux Mint 8 on my Dell Precision 350 computer. Every so often (sometimes every few hours, sometimes every few days, it appears to be random) my desktop will crash and display the message:
"70822.286411 EXT4fs error (device sda1): ext4_ext_check_inode: bad header/extent in inode #139281: invalid magic - magic 800c, entries 121, max 3278020), depth 171(171)"
This is displayed several times on all of the terminals, but with different numbers each time. When this happens, typing any commands in the terminal result in the error message being displayed again. When I restart after this happens, linux generally displays "Give root password for maintenance (or type control-D to continue):" and I give the root password. Running "fsck /dev/sda1" seems to fix this problem for the next boot, but then it will come back in either a few hours or a few days. Reinstalling the distro does not work, as I have already tried this. I suspect a hard disk error, but before I run out and buy and install a new hard disk, I wanted to know if maybe there is some way to fix this through software.
We can use inotify related tools (fam, etc.) to know "when" a file change occurs, but, Can I know where (file position, offset) this change was made? For example, suppose that you have a big file and you are monitoring changes on it, using inotify-tools package or something like that you can take acknowledged if another process chage that file, but How can I know "where" that change was maded in order to avoid read all file content looking for a change maded?
I have two questions. 1- How can I set up FTP server for the first time on the Centos? 2-I want to give the ftp user full root access in the directory of /var/www/html so he would be able to upload or download files and folders without getting "FTP Critical file transfer error". From command prompt how can I give the user test root access in the /var/www/html with all the folders, sub folders and files in one shut?
I have installed bluez.4.81....but when i install /home/george/Desktop/obexd-0.37.tar.gz,a configuration error occurs telling that libbluetooth is required. Is there any solution??
Having a bit of a issue with Debian Squeeze and transferring files to the Sony PSP..Hook up PSP to USB port and Debian mounts it..I go to drag a 125 meg mp4 to video folder..Copy windows takes about 10 seconds to transfer it..Exit USB mode and there is no video there. Go back into USB mode and look at video folder on the PSP memory stick and there is no video..It vanished. From another after copy progress closed I right clicked PSP and unmounted it..
It error-ed saying device was busy and could not unmount..Looking at light on PSP i see memory stick is still being written to..i wait for light to stop flashing..About a minute or so..Then am able to unmount it..Go to PSP video and theres the video ready to be watched. Debian isnt accurately showing the copy progress...Its showing complete when it isnt..I have to watch the light on PSP to know when it is truly finished.
And I added umask 022 to the user login script problem I have: I login with user and password that exists as a local user on my suse machine. I can read and download from my homedirectory, but I cannot upload with filezilla. Then I get the error: 550 permission denied critical file transfer error
I was trying to copy a few files to my phone via bluetooth when the file transfer window popped up with the progress bar stating "Connecting" and an error: the name org.openbox.client was not provided by any .service files..
I am using: openSUSE 11.3 Gnome 2.32, Kernel 2.6.38, obex-data-server 0.4.5-12.2,
I use Rhythmbox to transfer songs to my iPod (nano 1st gen). I installed Mediatomb the other day so I could stream music and video on my PS3 (which is awesome btw). Unfortunately, using Mediatomb my PS3 would only find a small portion of my music collection. So I ran Code:sudo nautilus then right clicked on my music folder, and changed the Group category to "Create and delete files" under the Permissions tab. After, my PS3 found my entire music collection. Great. But now in Rhythmbox I get an error about the mp3 files being read-only and can't transfer them to my iPod I've tried reversing the steps (with and without 'sudo'), but no luck. Under the File Access section of Permissions, I can never change anything (like to "read only" or "read and write"). No matter what I choose it always stays at "---"

I have a Razer headset plugged in. Everytime I restart the computer I have to unplug/plug the headset to make it work. It even shows up the system:
lsusb Bus 002 Device 002: ID 1532:001b Razer USA, Ltd
It does not show up as a valid sound device in system -> preferences -> sound.how I can make the headset "active" without replugging it to the computer?

I have a number of queries but will start with one. I presently operate 11.04 Classic (no effects). OS is NOT set up as dual boot. As I am considering purchasing a new Desktop, I am wondering what is the best way to recover such things as folders, Firefox bookmarks etc. for four users.
I do have a external HDD which I guess could be used for a possible backup if that is the way to go! The new computer will probably have Windows 7 installed with which I assume I would probably dual boot.
I am trying to transfer a lot of data from my laptop to my computer. Both are running Ubuntu 10.04 and both have Samba installed, and folders are setup for sharing. The laptop has a 56Mbps Wireless G built in module, and the computer has a Airlink AWLL6075 Wireless N USB Adapter 300Mbps. (I got the USB adapter working with the internet, since there was an issue with it just working out the box)
I have a wireless network, since wired is out of the question. The router is a Belkin Play N600 HD if that makes any difference. When i try to transfer the files across the speed of the transfer maxes out at about 785 Kbps (My Internet speed is 7Mbps=875 KB/s). It seems that the file is being sent to the router and then the internet and back to the router and then my computer.
I figure that bottleneck is my Laptop at 56Mbps, but that still gives a theoretical max of 7MB/s even at a low connection/link counting it at 24Mbps would still be 3MB/s. I even tried making a wireless Ad-Hoc network to transfer the files but when i went to Network it wouldn't show any shares.
I'm missing something to make it go faster and i really can't figure out what it is, maybe because I am too close to it.
is there a way that i could transfer my slackware in a usb so that i could get my os "on the go"? more like having my computer to boot in a usb then continue my work.
i saw slax thats why i'm wondering if i could do the same on my slackware.
I have recently rented a server which is running Ubuntu linux. I can connect to it through ssh. I've written a Java application that I would like to run on the server 24/7. How do I transfer the files from my computer to the server so I can run the program from the server?
has been a very slow rate of transfer from the computer to the USB on openSUSE, and the pendrive to the computer is much faster, I've tested other distros and the performance was very good. this is from the version now in openSUSE 11.2 and 11.3.
