Ubuntu Servers :: Error Occurs When We Use Move Upload File, To The New Directory Within Our PHP App

We are running into issues with a File Upload script written in PHP. We can upload files without issues except with .*x files (such as .docx) We are getting permission denied errors. The error occurs when we use move upload file, to the new directory within our PHP app. If we give the uploads folder 777 access, it works fine without error. I dont like that. So I set it to 775 (Also dont like this), but it didnt work until I gave group ownership to www-data (I really dont like this)
This issue only happens on our production server, which is Ubuntu 9.04, running Apache2.2 and PHP5 will all the newest updates. We also have all MIME's configured, and are able to download the file from Apache without error. The first thing we noticed before the file permissions error, was that the MIME type changed to .zip when we used mime content type function. But yet using the FILES array, it still showed .docx.
I just installed FC10 and then used yumex to install the vsftpd FTP daemon package. I'm using the vsftpd.conf file that came with the distribution, and its almost identical to one I copied from my FC2 machine's working set-up. When I try to FTP in as a known system user I'm presented with my home directory /home/myusername/. The directory appears empty to the FTP program, but isn't in reality. I can't upload a file to the empty home directory. I can move up the directory hierarchy to /home/, but again that appears as an empty directory.
I don't think it's a vsftpd.conf file issue. I've tried everything I can there. Could it have something to do with permissions? I fiddled with those, but couldn't make an FTP directory listing work.
I ftp into the server and see the files, but when i try to make a directory or upload a file it returns an error saying that permission is denied.I am wanting the users to be able to log on with their user account and then be able to have full control over their directories. What can i do to fix this problem?I have enabled port forwarding for ftp. What else is there i can do? If you need any extra information, let me know! I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 and Gnome-Do 0.8.3.1. I have two issues I hope someone can help with.First I've managed to add two folders to the doc, however when I hover over the icon the name is displayed as "..." This might be because the path of the folder is "/home/eric/Desktop/500" which is a link to "/mnt/500" I cannot add the folder without the error listed below. When trying to add folders, and some applications I receive the error:
"Docky Error - Docky could not move the file to the requested Directory. check file name permissions and try again."
i have ubuntu karmic 9.10 and when i try to update anything or install anything the a very similar error occurs."(Reading database . . . 55%dpkg: unrecoverable fatal error , aborting: files list file for package `com.palm.net.precoddr.fcoaster' contains empty filenameit repeats this message 3 times then gives up i believe.
I would like to upload files via ftp or sftp to my web directory at /var/www/...
Originally I had installed openssh-server (through apt-get, before learning about tasksel). I assumed this only had ssh support and not ftp, so after a quick search, I installed vsftpd. I would like to learn how to configure openssh, and I mention vsftpd in case there is a conflict.
Right now I am able to log in to my server box through ssh/ftp, but I can only modify my home directory. I created a directory: /var/www/andrew and set permissions to drwxr-xr-x. I am unable to upload files to this folder.
What do I have to do to resolve this, and is there anything else I should know about my situation?

as you can see up top it gives me an error when i try to run the file. it is a Ubuntu error and i don't what the heck is causing it. had it before but don't remember how i resolved it.

1- replace the file status with status-old 2- replace it with all the backups located in /var/backups/

I have proftpd @ Ubuntu 9.04 server. It authenticates users via Auth file, e.g. those are "FTP only" users, not real linux users. Each of them has assigned home dir in the same auth file. They also get Chrooted into it, e.g. default dir is ~ in proftpd.conf They can connect and download files successfully, however, they cannot upload anything or create directory: 550 permission denied error.
When I login via ssh and change user to proftpd user, I can create directories in that particular place, so I guess it's not Linux permissions problem? Or is it? /var/log/daemon.log is the place where proftpd stores its logs, but I cannot find anything relevant there
I have a bluetooth headset for a cellphone, which I would like to use with my Ubuntu computers. I'm currently trying to do this with a computer running Jaunty. I have successfully paired the headset with the computer. But when I try to send an audio file to the headset, I get the "Sending files via Bluetooth dialogue box, immediately followed by the error message:

It just seems to me that using a Bluetooth cellphone headset is not supported, or that I am doing something wrong.
UPDATE: I just tried doing this with my other machine running 10.04, with similar results. It looks momentarily like it's going to transfer the file, then reports that "an unknown error occurred". Is it just not possible to use bluetooth headsets for cellphones with Ubuntu computers? That doesn't seem very likely: when the computer detects the headset, it reports it as being a "headset". So why won't it work? What am I doing wrong?

However this causes lots of problems (folders have extensions, I have duplicate folders, the names with spaces create a folder for each element of the name).
The contents of the folder is basically movies (some with subtitles). Some of the names have things like (original) or CD1 CD2 in them.

have setup a LAMP server with ubuntu 10.04 server edition x86 for my study in VMware Workstation 7.1 For a assignment I had to make a php script that would load a file up to the server and set the name in a mysql database. According to the book the server should set the image in a cryptic folder in the /tmp/ folder.
This isn't working and i also try'd locate and find to find the image i uploaded. I checked the php.ini and file uploads were on but no folder so i set that one to /tmp/ but still no images. Can anyone help me with enabling this function?
I have a directory , there are many files created in it , I want to use the command to move the files which elder than 30 days and gzip it and then move it to /tmp , and then remove those files , I tried use below command but not work.

In order to protect myself if I make a mistake in typing a directory/filename path, I am searching for a way to prevent mv from doing anything if the source and destination files exist on separate partitions.I see no options in the man page.I just need to find a way to get the partition the directory/file is on
the system currently have a directory with all the invalid files. how bad is it to move a single file to a directory containing 3 million files already?
I work in a compagny and i encounter a problem with the samba trash.When i delete a file from our network directory, the file don't move to the samba trash directory. But, the server create the same samba tree like the orginal file. Interestingly enough, I've had a couple of opportunities to do similar tasks with passwords and privileges and even across the LAN in the last few days. Solving this problem will help me solve the others for next time.

I have got centos 5.3 running on my system. I have installed vsftpd and created a separate folder to upload files (upload folder created in/var/ftp/pub). From my client end I can download ftp files but when I try to upload files from my client I get a error message 550: permission denied. The upload folder has full permission ie 777. Checked the ftp config file everything looks ok.
I esablished a dual boot with Windows 7 and Ubuntu on separate partitions. Then, as I realised that Windows 7 was rubbish and Ubuntu annoyed me by losing wireless connectivity after an update, I decided to go back to Windows XP for a while. So I did what I probably shouldn't have done, and formatted the partition (or so I thought) with Ubuntu on, using Windows.
Now, on booting up the system, all I can get is the Grub Rescue prompt and nothing in the Bios menus seems to be of any assistance.
I've tried booting XP from a CD, but a blue screen error always occurs at the same point in the installation. I wonder if I should make a CD/external drive with Ubuntu on, reinstall it, and go from there?
Ive looked up and down but i cant seem to find an answer to my question. Why cant i upload to my ftp site. I am running a lamp server and i installed proftp. i created users and groups. i tested my server and its working fine. but now when im working on dreamweaver to connect to my ftp... It connects fine i can download my files from the site but when i edit them and try to "put" them back. i get an error:
index.html - error occurred - An FTP error occurred - cannot put index.html. Access denied. The file may not exist, or there could be a permission problem. Make sure you have proper authorization on the server and the server is properly configured.
make install then i got this error: postfix: fatal: chdir(/usr/libexec/postfix): No such file or directory make: *** [install] Error 1 I don't understand why it's checking the usr/libexec folder for the daemons although I've set the folder to /opt/product/postfix-2.6.5/libexec in the makefile.
