mkisofs 2.01
I do 'mkisofs -iso-level 1 -o image John Smith.txt'. Only an example. When I mount image, ls outputs john_smi.txt. So it has shorten to 8.3 and translated ' ' into '_'. This is in accordance with the manual, although it doesn't say the conversion will be done.
Quote:
-iso-level level
.........................
With all iso9660 levels from 1..3, all filenames are restricted to upper case letters, numbers and the underscore (_).
...........................
However, as it did not reject the file name, it should have converted it to all upper case, it seems to me. And -iso-level 2|3 does the same thing.
Code:
root@darkstar:~# mkisofs -iso-level 1 -o image John Smith.txt

Total rockridge attributes bytes: 0
Total directory bytes: 0

The last time the panel and Docky did this, I was using Rhythmbox and Google Chrome. Tooltips will still show on Docky and the panel, and I can still select things; however, the buttons are invisible. Is there a way to prevent this from happening?

Also it would be great if it could be controlled without restoring the window. I installed deskbar and really like it as a multi search tool. But I would really like to have the actual search field present at all times in my lower panel. Right now, I just have the deskbar icon, which is like a magnifying glass with an orange little "electrical shock" (kind of reminds me of like a cardiogram line) coming out of it. I have seen screen shots before of other people's desktop with the actual search field constantly in the lower panel. And it was mentioned in those screen shots that it was in fact deskbar.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm new to Ubuntu and really like it so far, having come from a PC background up to now. I've installed it on my Acer laptop and all is well there. However, on my desktop, the screen resolution doesn't match the Ubuntu desktop and fonts and graphics are very blurry. The hardware I have is:
HP Compaq dx2450 micro-tower FE281EA
Samsung 23" widescreen monitor, native resolution 1680x1050
When I check the resolution using System > Preferences > Display it says that indeed I'm using 1680x1050, which should be correct. However, the bottom of the Ubuntu desktop is cut-off, below the bottom of the screen, so I can only see the very top edge of the bottom panel. The top panel is also slightly cut off, missing about the top 20% of the panel. Left and right seem to be in line OK. The resulting blurriness of fonts makes it fairly unusable until I get it fixed.
I've searched fairly extensively and I realise there are other threads on this so sorry for posting again, but they all seem to be slightly different problems and all the responses are fairly or very technical. Maybe I can't avoid a technical solution and getting my hands dirty with a terminal prompt, but I'm hoping I can fix this without resorting to stuff I don't understand and might get wrong. I'm a technically minded end-user but not a unix guy.
I just installed ubuntu 11.04 last night. I noticed most of my effects were missing so I tried to put them back on. This didn't work so I disabled the effects. Then, my panel at the top and the Launcher is missing. .How do I get these back?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI like 11.04 with Unity however I would like to find a method of managing workspaces with mouse (not keyboard) which gives constant visual feedback and is faster than using the launcher bar, which although not 'slow', takes time to appear and it then takes time to locate the (non movable) desktop switcher item.I happily adopt most of what 11.04 (Unity) offers, however, I really still miss the good visual feedback and the single click action that the lower panel (classic) desktop switcher used. Is there a way of me using some item in unity which is closely similar?
View 3 Replies View Relatedattempted to "install it to a USB memory stick". I am having a hard time recreating the actual steps that he took. boot the computer and "Missing Operating System" message in upper left corner of screen. Not good, I think. I insert the Max OS X install disk and boot holding the "c" key so the system boots from the CD. Instead of installing, there is a disk utility tool from the pull-down. It shows the system hard-drive and the CD/DVD drive. So far so good. When I look closer at the hard drive, there appears to be a single Linux partitiion. No Mac OS partition. I know enough about computers to know that if the Mac OS disk partition is not visible, there' s probably no easy way to retrieve the 1.5 years worth of family pictures, applications, website I had built, etc. My "best guess" is that somewhere along the way, when he tried to install Fedora to the USB memory stick, that he inadvertantly attempted to install it to the hard drive. best route to recovery?
