Software :: Remastersys: Removing Files From The ISO?
Oct 6, 2009I downloaded Remastersys, and have made an ISO of my system. How do I remove stuff from it? It's too large to fit onto a CD, and I don't have a DVD-RW drive.

View 6 RepliesI have just done a upgrade. And I get the message below. I am not sure that I don't have enough on my boot partition to install the new kernel. When I try and upgrade I get this message: There are unfinished transactions remaining. You might consider running yum-complete-transaction first to finish them.

So what I want is to set up everything as it should be and that to be the default setting. If users download files or make changes to the files these should be for the session. On startup/shutdown all the files and changes should be deleted this way the next user can find the machine clean. And also there is limited maintenance to be done.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to develop a bash or Perl script that will evaluate files in the local directory and delete every file that is older than a specified time period, such as three months.I write documents and save the latest modifications by putting the current date in the filename, so I can easily see which versions are the newest. I would like to clean up my directory every once in a while, though, by eliminating the copies that are more than a few months old.
View 14 Replies View RelatedDepending on whether I launched it with gnome do or the main menu I got a different 'version' of spotify, I could tell this because it had different searches remembered. I tried removing wine and spotify and gnome do via synaptic and completely remove and then the option to remove configuration files left over. I did a search and there were loads of wine files left so I just deleted. When I reinstalled wine, spotify and gnome do the same problem occurred.
Also Firefox started crashing ubuntu, just freezing it, so I tried to uninstall completely, but when I restarted it kept the same add ons and still crashed. So I uninstalled again and tried to delete all firefox folders but I can't work out how to do it as root.

View 2 Replies View RelatedBasically this is my problem:
1.) I want to remove Ubuntu and Grub and have only Windows XP on my PC again. (Remember the good old days?)
2.) I want to put the Ubuntu partitions back into Windows partition. I need the space.
3.) I can't use an XP disc because I don't have one. (No. Neither does anyone else I know.)
4.) FIXMBR isn't working... am I doing something wrong and what other options do I have?
5.) Does anyone know how do this without removing all my files on the XP? I can't afford to backup everything on my XP. I CAN'T!

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe following script will work when I type the path to the file I want to checksum, but not when I drag the file to the terminal because the linux terminal (unlike the Mac) automatically puts quotes around the file path, which causes an error. I did not find anything in gconf-editor or anywhere else to alter this behaviour, and my post in Launchpad is unanswered so far. (the script in itself is not very useful, I just stumbled upon this error when experimenting with bash).
So, is there a workaround for stripping the quotes from the input, or can I configure the terminal to not quote the input when I drag a file into it (which I would prefer?)I am currently logged in from Mac OS, but the question refers to ubuntu karmic with which I dual boot.ADMINISTRATORS: Thanks for the quick reply to my newbie question about posting new threads. Actually I don't see now what the difficulty was; I guess I was tired from trying to debug the above script (not funny).
I m trying to install Alsa for playing wav files I typed this: aptitude install alsa-base It started removing a lot of software from debian. Is that expected with that command? Do I need to install another "base" to bring things back?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm migrating data (music and videos mainly) from a NAS server that was being used as my iTuens Media Folder onto a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.04 and I'd like to get rid of all the ._DS files as well as other files that os x 10.4 has been creating such as duplicates of mp3 files but prefixed with "._".
The reason I'm keen to remove all of these files is because I stumbled across a corrupted ._DS_Store file that caused me all sorts of head aches and I don't want them causing any problems in linux.
I've used the search function in Nautilus to search for ._ but it returns no results, even when I'm searching in a directory that I know for certain has those files in it. I have 'View hidden files' selected.
Is it possible to remove the "ubuntuone-synchronized" emblem from files and folders that are being synchronized with Ubuntu One? Seeing the check mark on all my files and folders is just really annoying and distracts from the thumbnail preview that nautilus provides.I've tried going into folder properties -> emblems and de-selecting the emblem but it won't let me.

Quote: evolution-data-server-common architecture independent files for Evolution Data Server. Why, when removing this package, does Synaptic want me to also remove:
Quote:
gnome-applet
gnome-panel
indicator-applet
ubuntu-netbook-remix
This seems pretty stupid. I just want to get rid of Evolution! Netbooks are cloud based machines, why was Evolution even included?! The same with OpenOffice.
Seem my rotation part is not removing files older than 90 days. Anybody know what is wrong?

I know a bunch of commands and I am comfortable using the terminal, I even set a powerpc server but I can't figure out how to remove epiphany on this new computer I'm setting up. I didn't install anything with tasksel. I installed gnome and xorg afterwards... I load it up and 'startx' just fine. then I check around for the programs that were installed. I lik'em gimp, lot's of utilities. gedit. anyway I find epiphany, which I have already established that I dislike, I immediately go to the root terminal (another nice program that comes with gnome) and type apt-get remove epiphany-browser-data the output says it will be deleting gnome... however I have researched and found these are simpy meta packages that don't really matter.... however under the section that states all the packages that will be removed by autoremove there is a huge list... I doubt these packages are safe to remove. how to remove epiphany without removing a huge amount of probably needed software
View 14 Replies View Relatedwhat i did was, remove evolution mail from synaptic, what i wanted to do was just remove the indicator applet from the task bar. i read a bunch of bad stuff about removing evolution from synaptic vs just removing the applet.
im worried. did i break anything or put my security at risk. after, i used a command (older) (sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop)to install ubuntu desktop. because i thought that it would fix evolution. then i went to synaptic and installed a package called evolution. i rechecked evolution in applications menu. however, i notice that i have both a checkable evolution and two evolution icons. nothing 'seems' broken. im not sure if it ever was. and evolution calender pops up as normal, as does the the installed plain evolution. they both seems to be an exact copy of the other.
all i really wanted to do was remove the indicator applet. did i make a serious mistake. since ive had ubuntu, ive reformatted a lot because i was worried i made a mistake of some kind. however now im into the more "make a mistake and fix it stage' as im pretty happy with my current desktop and have worked hard to customize it. the command, sudo apt-get remove indicator-messages removed the mail icon. i still am worried that i broke something, or put my security at risk. also, now i have two mail icons. evolution mail and calendar, and another just called evolution.
I have remastersys backup on DVD but I have no idea how to restore. There is install option when I boot from DVD but it doesn't install anything to hard drive. It looks as if my system was loaded to memory or was run as LiveCD. In Nautilus I can see my original root and home partitions (I mean these on hard drive) as separate drives, not partitions. On remastersys website I didn't find any information.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI installed opensuse 11.4 on a virtual box , made tweaks, edits, updates, installs, and I want to install it on a hard drive but I want to install it with all the tweaks/installs i made in virtualbox. There's a program in Ubuntu called Remastersys that will create an ISO with all the packages and updates already on the distro and I'm looking for something similar in OpenSUSE. Can it be done? Is there another route I can take that will create an iso out of all the software updates/installs thats I've made?
