I do not have a TV card.
I was wondering whether it was possible to capture video using my computer?
We've bought a cheap video camera for our son to make a movie. Files are stored on a 16Gb SD disk. When we first used it a week ago I was able to connect the camera via USB and copy the files to my laptop. Today I went to clear some more files to make room for shooting the movie and nothing shows up when the camera is attached to the laptop. I can view the files on the camera so they do exist.
I have tried:Using different usb ports Using a different computer Using an SD Card Reader on both computers Investigating permissions via terminal (the camera seems to be set to RWX Checking that no one has played with the settings on the camera Nothing has changed on the camera or the laptop as far as I can see and yet the files are not showing up.
Camera Model: HD-C2 2.7" LCD 12MP
Ubuntu Version: 9.10 Karmic Koala
I'm getting an error 60 every time I try plugging in my camera.. If you need more details i'll post up some screenshots I took.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Panasonic DVCPRO HD camera with a Firewire output. I'd like to take the video footage off of the camera and put it into my Ubuntu (Studio, 10.04) machine. Unfortunately, neither my Ubuntu machine nor the camera seem to recognize a connection with each other.
I've only used this camera like this with Mac OSX, in which I press a button a couple folders pop up with everything in them which I can then digitize in Final Cut Pro. I'd prefer being able to use my Ubuntu setup with Open Source Software to view and edit this footage.
how to get ubuntu and this camera to talk to each other and play nice?
I am running Ubuntu 11.04, fresh install (32bit) on a Toshiba Satellite pro laptop and I am unable to get Ubuntu to recognize the camera is plugged in.When I ran 10.10 it was a simple plug and play approach and I have searched the forums for some guidance with no success.

If however I type [URL] on that computer or any other on my wireless network, I get a page cannot be displayed. I checked that UFW was disabled and I am able to ping the motion computer from any other computer on my network. I just moved into a new apartment and now connect via DHCP. Everything seems fine network-wise, except that when I'm at work I can't connect to the home box. (CentOS 5.3 x86_64) One thing I noticed is that I can't really determine my "true" IP address. What I mean is that it looks like my IP is 192.168.0.190, but when I use linuxdcpp, and enter a hub, I'm told my IP addr is actually something like 71.192.163.206. Here's some info:
[root@localhost cwatson]$ cat /var/lib/dhclient/dhclient-eth0.leases
option dhcp-server-identifier 192.168.0.1;
option domain-name-servers 192.168.0.1;
option broadcast-address 192.168.0.255;

I'm trying to setup PS3 media server on my new OpenSuse 11.2 and I'm being unable to connect to the PS3. The multimedia server seems to being working ok, only it has not appear on XMB.
I've been searching on PS3 Media Server forums and try a couple of solutions regarding /etc/hosts and adding full qualified domain name of server to it, but it doesn't seems to work.
Is there an easy way of copying just new photos from the SD card onto the computer and avoiding duplicates even if the file name changes?
Currently my partner will occasionally copy the files from the SD card onto the computer and then rename then. Then when I try to see which photos to bring across I can't do it.
I use Dropbox to store the photos.
8.04 permissions. I have had ubuntu 8.04 running Zoneminder 1.22.3 for over 2 years with a capture card and cctv cameras. I just bought a Trendnet IP512p camera. My zoneminder box will not connect to it. The main error I get is, [Restarting capture daemon for ipcam, shared memory not valid], I am wasting time with shared memory settings. I just booted a live cd of 9.10 with Zoneminder 1.22.3 that I remastered from another system and the IP camera works fine. (It ran all night in the live environment.) From that test I have concluded I have a permission problem in my 8.04 install that is not letting www-data (the ZM process) access what it needs to grab the stream. From the same box I can stream the camera to firefox while using vnc to connect to it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a recently upgraded OpenSuse 11.3 system (this problem also appeared to me in OpenSuse 11.2). I have a Sony DSC-W290 camera, and I would like to connect to this camera to get the photos. When I plug the camera to the USB the camera sets itself to "Memory Stick" but nothing happens on the Gnome Linux desktop. I assume that the system should automatically mount the filesystem as it does correctly with other devices (external USB disks and classical memory sticks).

I'm running FC13, and suddenly, when I try to connect a camera for picture download, the desktop icon that would otherwise open the camera's memory directory opens a network directory instead. Seems the inode is munged and misdirecting.
If I go
cd .gvfs
ls -i
I get
2 gphoto2 mount on usb%3A002,005 an inode of 2? gphoto2 is broken too, but I'm not as worried about that.
Isn't the scrobbler (or whatever it is called) built into the newer Amarok as it used to? I recently upgraded to 2.3.1 and I can not find any possibility to connect with Last.fm. Do one have to install it separately instead?I am on OS 11.2 and upgraded through KDE application update repo.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently did an upgrade to ubunut 10.04. I have a nikon d70 that I plugged into the computer to download the pictures off of but to my surprise my computer no longer sees the camera. I did a search and found a few threads about USB cameras and skype but nothing about this issue. Is there anyone else having this problem?
Is there a fix for it? So far everything has been working OK with UBUNTU 10.04 I would hate to go back to windows xp only because I am not able to download the pictures from my camera.
Can I run this camera:
Quote:
Bus 001 Device 007: ID 046d:0809 Logitech, Inc
as something other than a UVC driven camera?
It appears that UVC in 640x480 format is only available at 15 fps. I need to record at fps=30. So I can splice into existing video.

I have a Medion camcorder with a DV-out, that I had (previously) connected to a Windows machine, on the windows machine i can connect true USB.
Now I have a Ubuntu 9.04 laptop and it will not recognize the camera.
The command lsusb I see the camera either. Now my question (s)
1. this camera,can i connect it with USB?
2. how can I install this
3. I do manage that, what software can I use best. ?
I have upgraded from Pre-installed Xandros to Ubuntu 9.10 on my Eeepc 701 and my camera is not been detected, even checked the BIOS, where the status is shows as "Enabled"...
View 2 Replies View RelatedI deleted files from my camera (SDHC via USB) which I now want to copy back but I don't know how.
The camera is mounted in ~/.gvfs and the target folder is owned by my user with read/execute permissions. Couldn't change the folders permission.
I tried to mount the camera using 'gksu nautilus', but the camera didn't show up in the side panel. Unfortunately I don't know how to mount the camera from the command line, so I'm stuck.
PS: the only available card reader doesn't recognize SDHC cards, so that's not an option. And no, I won't boot Windows for that task.
My local priest has asked me if I can use my computer skills to stream church services live for people who can't make it to church.I said, sure thing! I thought it would be simple, but the deeper I look into it, the more lost I have become!Here's the tech requirements:
- A camera with good optical zoom and focused on the altar (the camera will be stationed at an unobtrusive point at the back of the church on the choir balcony)
- Everything must be wireless (power is available on choir balcony to power the camera).
- Sound should be synchronised perfectly with the video (have access to the church PA system - located behind altar)
- the internet connection should be able to upload the stream to a virtual server (i.e. with root access) that's accessible to the web with ease. What upload speed would I need? Would 256k be enough? HD video is not required - ..... quality would be great. We can upgrade to HD at a later point in time!
- What bandwidth requirement would my server need if say 1000 users were connected? Seeing as they would most likely be locals, would just one stream be sent to the local exchange and that exchange would send out the stream to the 1,000 users, or would each user have to have a dedicated connection to the server?
- Say I bought a camcorder with HDMI output, what kind of processing power would I need to convert this to compressed video? (I've got an old Pentium 4 and an AMD64 2.0GHz lying idle in my bedroom and it would be great to make use of 'em instead of chucking 'em on the skip)
- I'd like all this to be done so that HTML5 browsers can access the video, resorting to flash if necessary
- I'd also like to be able to power down all the hardware with ease: i.e. set a timer. I'm sure ubuntu can do this with ease? What about configuring the camera to zoom in every time it is powered on? Can linux control the zoom on a camcorder?
- Am I totally nuts?
