Ubuntu Networking :: Compatibility Between Routers And Built-in Wireless Module?

Sep 2, 2010

I was going to buy a TP-link wireless router (802.11b/g/n) but while I was reading the consumer's reviews I saw some people were saying that they couldn't make it work with ubuntu. So, I'm starting wandering if there is somewhere any compatibility list? I mean if for instance TP-link or D-link would work with broadcom's chip. I would like to use my laptop's built-in wireless module which is HP Broadcom corp. BCM4306 802.11b/g. My laptop is a HP Pavilion zv6000.

Ubuntu Networking :: Unable To Use Zonet ZEW2500P Module - NetworkManager Won't Start On Booting

May 2, 2010

After upgrading to Lucid said adapter is nonfunctional - NetworkManager won't start on booting (I'm using 2870sta module) and it finds no networks - neither does WICD. The device itself is identified: "lsusb" gives a line "Bus 001 Device 005: ID 148f:3070 Ralink Technology Corp." "iwconfig" gives nothing under lo and eth0 and this under wlan0:

Code:

RTxx70 Wireless ESSID:""

Link Quality=10/100 Signal level:0 dbBm Noise level:-143 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

And a "lsmod | grep -e rt2 -e rt3" gives:

Code:

(Note: I had a similar problem going from Jaunty to Karmic, but blacklisting rt2800usb in my blacklist.conf fixed it. No such luck this time.)Using a Zonet ZEW2500P.x86-64 Lucid.

Server :: Debian On HP ProLiant DL380 - NIC Driver Installation - Firmware-bnx2

Apr 5, 2011

I have a HP ProLiant DL380 server and I am trying to install Debian on it.

I had an error that said dhcp configuration failed at the base installation and Debian found my NICs but asked for driver.

I've Googled it and found out that I need to install required Broadcom NetExtreme NIC drivers.

There are images that 3rd people have created but I don't want to use them as it will be a server.

Another way to install them is to download .deb package and install it from a removable media when asked.

So I went ahead and did an expert install mode and choosed adding packages from a media so an option appeared for me to install stuff from removable media now.

Each time I choose it, my flash drive's lights are blinking but then I am getting an error says this package can not be installed are you sure to install a non signed package.

I say yes at that stage but I still can't install and then it says this is probably happening because of kernel version miss match.

I downloaded latest stable copy of Debian and also downloaded the stable squeeze copy of the driver from official Debian site too. [url]

Is this a kernel mismatch between my Deb. version and the driver?

And after many try my server started hanging at detecting network hardware stage, how can I deal with this?

Also finally I started to get this...

[url]

Is this happening because I am using wrong architecture CD?

I have i386 image and my server has 2 x Pentium 3 processor.

Debian :: Possible To Change Repositories And Add Just Libjpeg8 Module

Sep 26, 2015

I've installed Debian 8.0 Netinst ISO on my old Ubuntu 8.04 Desktop to upgrade it for banking access requirements. I've installed the 32 Bit Jessie (Debian 8.x) and I am trying to get GWintree installed from the .deb file on the Internet. It was missing libtiff4, and I contacted the author about the missing lib. He rebuilt GWintree for Ubuntu 14.04, and uploaded the new .deb file. Now, when I try to install the deb with gdebi, I get another missing lib named libjpeg8, which is a runtime module. libjpeg8 is not available in Jessie, but is available
in Stretch (unstable) & also SID.

Is it possible to change my repositories, and add just the libjpeg8 module and get GWintree installed. That assumes there aren't other missing libs as well. If not, what is the best way to get libjpeg8 backported to Jessie? Who does this type building? GWintree worked well in Squeeze & Wheezy! I hope I can get it working in Jessie.

Fedora :: F12 2.6.33 Kernel .config For Menuconfig

Mar 14, 2010

I'm experimenting with 2.6.33-ck1 mainly because I want to try the BFS. I successfully configured and installed the patched kernel, but I'm experiencing various problems on the desktop. The biggest is Chromium not working at all, but there are several others, including graphical glitches in firefox. I'm sure I left some important module off or made a mistake for some settings My question is that is there a 2.6.33-fc12 kernel yet, and does it have a .config available? I'd like to load those settings in menuconfig and use them as a starting point to properly configure and complie a -ck patched kernel.

Ubuntu Networking :: Built-in Ethernet Not Registering?

Jun 14, 2010

The motherboard is an L7VMM2 Rev 1.1Initially everything was running smoothly, then I brought it upstairs and everything just failed. The computer would hang right before the POST memory check, and after a few reboots it would do the memory check and reboot. So, I opened it up and switched the RAM around thinking it may have been a BIOS bug or a loos connection and it seemed to work. Now it boots into 10.04 perfectly and is blazing fast for an old computer. THe only problem now is that according to ubuntu, my ethernet controller is non-existent. It doesn't show up in lspci, dmesg and the only thing in ifconfig is the lo interface. It will however recognize the USB interfaces. I upgraded to linux 2.6.2.32-22-generic #33 but that didn't help the issue any. Now I'm stuck, and running out of ideas

Ubuntu Networking :: Accessing Server With Built In VPN Functionality?

Aug 10, 2010

I've seen many posts about setting up VPN's but my doubt goes further. I just need access to the local network of my office from a Windows XP (which of course is outside the LAN). I would like this PC to have access to the whole LAN, but what I really need is it to access to an Ubuntu Server (e.g. 192.168.0.10). The router is a Netgear DG834, which has a built in VPN functionality. So, is it enough if I set it up? Do I need to install any VPN server in Ubuntu? What if I want to access to another computer in the LAN? Where should I start?
