Ubuntu :: Typing Break Program For XFCE?

Jul 9, 2010

Do you know a tool that forces me to do a typing break like the one in GNOME's keyboard preferences? I did some search on the net but I only found references to GNOME's typing break tool.

Fedora :: Annoying Beep When Typing Break Ends On F12 / 13 - Turn This Off?

Sep 1, 2010

I have the typing break enabled through the keyboard preferences, and when the break ends, I hear an alarm beep (sounds like the alarm on a wristwatch) through my speakers.
For the life of me, I cannot figure out how to turn this off.

It did not always do this, but started when I upgraded my system to Fedora 12, and it persisted through to the upgrade to F13.

There are three computers in my office running F13, and mine is the only one that does this. I can find no trace online of anyone else having this problem.

Can anyone tell me how to turn this off?

I'm running Gnome 2.30.0 on Fedora 13 (x86_64)

Feb 22, 2011

Im running ubuntu 10.10 with the default gnome. I have dual 23" LED monitors and I would like to take more advantage of my width by breaking up my screens into multiple custom size zones/grids. Basically so I can maximize a window and it only takes up that custom sized "grid zone". I remember there being a windows app to do this easily, but I havent found anything for gnome. Any recommendations? I dont think compiz grids has much flexibility into the sizes/locations of the "zones".

Ubuntu :: Break-through And Install Windows XP?

Jul 28, 2011

I have probably ranted so much about not being able to remove Ubuntu, how-ever I believe I have found a break-through, allowing me to once again install Windows XP onto my laptop.I was looking through the Microsoft/Windows website for something relating to XP, and I stumbled upon this bad-boy...Apparently it's an .iso for Windows XP! So I read over it and without hesitation, I downloaded it...I was then referred to something that was actually installed with Ubuntu called'Start-Up Disk Creator', which allows me to make an .iso bootable from a pen-drive...

So, because I recently re-installed Ubuntu (It broke after trying to install a game..) via Pen-Drive, I used the Universal USB Creator on the Ubuntu Website and it is quite similar to this..I will keep posted on my possible break-through on removing Ubuntu

Ubuntu Installation :: Any Way To Break WUBI Out Of Box

Jul 31, 2011

Is there a way to break wubi out of its box? As in, resizing /dev/sdX and moving the current partition data onto there? Or would I have to do a fresh-install, and then copy over the post install data? The reason I'm asking is because, The desktop Wubi is currently running on, has migrated into a router(has some epic umph), and its reached its 30GB limit, and I also have the hard drive space to support it now.

System Specs:
AMD Phenom II 1090T @ 3.7Ghz(6 cores)
16GB DDR3 1600Mhz
2x AMD Radeon HD 6850s.
+2 NICs forgot brand :/

Off Topic but slightly relevant: Nic 1 = Server Switch, Nic 2 = Non-Server Switch.
Onboard NIC: Modem.

Ubuntu Installation :: Latest Updates Break The Xserver?

Jun 13, 2010

Ubuntu has been great and it is a great Linux distro. Unfortunately, the update of 9.10 desktop edition to release 10.4 failed on a couple of fronts.

1) Xserver is no longer working;
2) An upgrade of grub-pc causes an exception.

The system ran perfectly before the update was performed. The update resulted in Attempting to install GRUB to a partition instead of MBR. This is a BAD idea. usr/sbin/grub-setup: warn: Embedding is not possible. GRUB can only be installed in this setup by using blocklists. However, blocklists are UNRELIABLE and is use is discouraged.

Based on information found at [URL]... an attempt was made to execute the following command. sudo aptitude dist-upgrade But that resulted in E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run sudo dpkg configure ato correct the problem The later launches an upgrade of grub-pc. This routine requests the selection of which devices are to be used to store grub-install. When that was done ... GRUB failed to install to the followed devices: /dev/sdb1 /dev/sdc1 /dev/sdd4

Do you want to continue anyway? If you do, your computer may not start up properly. GRUB installation failed. Continue? Questions:
1) Can / should the upgrade of grub-pc be bypassed in order to get the system running?
2) If not, what values should be selected when selecting the devices to store grub-install?
3)Because the computer is a RAID configuration, would someone advise are there special considerations which should be considered?
4) Once grub-pc is resolved or bypassed, should the commands found in the aforementioned article be used to repair xserver.
5) Are there additional measures which will be needed to in order to complete the update to release 10.4?

Here are some helpful details on the system configuration

The computer has four disk drives using RAID 1 and RAID 5.In the following configuration RAID5 Device #0 750.2 GB Sotfware RAID device
#1 750.2 GB ext4
SCSI1 (0,0,0) (sda) 320.1 GB ATA WDC WD3200AAKS-2

Ubuntu Servers :: How To Break RAID Configuration Non-destructively

Feb 23, 2011

breaking a software RAID 1 disk array so I can remove one of the drives permanently. I've found a couple suggestions to make the drive 'forget' that it is a RAID drive by "zeroing out their md superblocks", but I don't know enough about superblocks to know if this is destructive or not. I used this guide to create my RAID-1 and it is working fine. This is my current setup:

Code:

$ cat /proc/mdstat
Personalities : [linear] [multipath] [raid0] [raid1] [raid6] [raid5] [raid4] [raid10]
md0 : active raid1 sdb1[1] sda1[0]

Ubuntu Installation :: 9.10 - Will Installing Debian Lenny Break GRUB 2

Jan 11, 2010

If I install a totally different Linux distro on my existing Ubuntu 9.10 system, will it break GRUB 2? I was thinking of installing Debian Lenny, but have held off because I do not want to inadvertently wreck the boot arrangement.

I've previously installed Windows after installing Kubuntu, and had to reinstall GRUB as the bootloader as a result. It wasn't a big deal with the old GRUB, but I don't know if it's that easy with GRUB 2.

I am not sure what bootloader Debian Lenny uses. I've been looking but haven't found the answer yet. I guess if it also uses Grub 2, I wouldn't have to fix anything.

I want to try out Lenny because an app I want to use (Teamspeak 3) doesn't play nicely with Pulseaudio. Pulseaudio is integral to Ubuntu 9.10, but I have other options with Debian Lenny. I'd like to see whether the app works better there w/LXDE.

I guess I could also just make a virtual Lenny machine in Virtualbox, but I wouldn't get full use of my hardware, so I wouldn't be able to play Urban Terror (which is why I want to use Teamspeak 3).
