Ubuntu :: Trying To Hotsync Palm Tungsten E2 Via Bluetooth
May 23, 2011
I am just about to pull out my hair! I have been trying all day to get my Palm Tungsten E2 to sync with Gnome-Pilot via Bluetooth, with no success. Some stats:I am running Mint 11, which is essentially Natty without Unity. Whatever differences exist shouldn't affect the BT stack.I have successfully paired my Palm with my laptop. A "connected" icon appears next to my Palm's entry in Bluetooth Preferences when I attempt to sync.I have successfully synced to Gnome-Pilot via USB cable, but not via Bluetooth.
I did not have this kind of trouble with Ubuntu Maverick. The hardest part in Maverick was the pairing, but once I got past that, I had no problem with syncing.I'm about to head over to Launchpad to report this as a bug, but before I do, I'm hoping someone might be able to offer some insight or maybe point out something I'm forgetting or missing.

I have just aquired a Palm Tungsten T3 and am trying to get sync/network via bluetooth working in Natty.I am wondering if there is a 'correct' way to do this as the bluetooth architecture has changed drastically since these howtos were written.

I upgrade to 9.10 over the weekend and have an issue with connection to my Palm Centro.
I have been using ubuntu since 8.04 and have been syncing my Palm (using jPilot and Palm Desktop on Windows XP Host (in VBox) regularly. (not without usual initial troubles .
After the upgrade, I synced it once - the Sync reported error with some voice memo and was completed. My datebook and todo on Palm got updated properly. However after that one instance, now whenever I try connecting my Palm using the USB ... the Palm reboots !! I cant seem to figure out why OS upgrade would in anyway affect this particular USB connection.
My other USB drives work properly (and Palm USB sycn happens on other machines - RHEL and Mac). So, it must be something to do with USB settings on 9.10 I guess.

I cannot seem to make my Tungsten E2 handheld Palm OS PDA sync on ubuntu 9.04 with jpilot, gnome-pilot, or kpilot using my USB connection. I diff'd the output of the ls command when the pilot was trying to connect to sync, and with it entirely unplugged.
The result was the following:
Code:
I'm not seeing a ttyS0 or ttyUSB or pilot or anything which is kind of disturbing.../var/log/messages reports that the palm was only discovered as a "high-speed USB device," which would suggest my kernel is not recognizing it as a palm pilot.
How to configure any type of palm software or my kernel so that I can sync?

I use jpilot on opensuse 11.3 64bit to sync pim data with my Palm Treo 680 via bluetooth. This worked fine until today. Now I get the following error message when I try to sync: Syncing on device bt: Press the HotSync button now dlp_ReadSysInfo error Exiting with status YNC_ERROR_PI_CONNECT Finished.
The last successfull sync was on the 20th October and today is the 24th October. I did not change any settings in jpilot or on my palm device. So I guess there must have been an update of opensuse which causes this error. But I do not now how to look up the updates during this period or how to undo them. Was there an update between the 20th and the 24th Oktober, which might affect either jpilot or bluetooth functionality?

I was trying to sync my Tungsten E with Debian Squeeze and it would just hang as if there was no connection. Trying pilot-link -l resulted in a message saying that it was looking for a new usb connection (or something to that effect) and would never connect. jpilot is set to use "usb:".
I moved to my laptop, which has Ubuntu Lucid, installed jpilot and it synced just fine using "usb:". What is "usb:"? How do I troubleshoot it? It seems to me that is the problem with my debian install.

i have a bluetooth modem (BlueSMiRF) that is connected to Arduino Duemilanove. I am trying to see serial communication messages from the bluetooth modem.
I have Blueman Device Manager that enabled SPP (Serial Port) and it says :

How do I see the serial communication on this?
I tried on console
Code:
$rfcomm listen 0
but it's stuck at
Code:
Waiting for connection on Channel 1
Is there any other way to listen (and also send) to serial comm msgs on bluetooth?

The bluetooth manager does not detect a bluetooth dongle .trying to use ndiswrapper to fix.I installed device manager and the results are shown below.i downloaded the windows driver suite. It has 4 .exe self extracting driver archives and a setupconfig.ini. The .ini file is below.I was able to extract one of the 32bit archives on a windows machine and it had about 8 .inf files that are titled weird and would not install properly using ndiswrapper probably because im using the 64-bit architecture. there are 2 64bit .exe's in the driver download, but how can i extract them in ubuntu and do i really need to install all 8 .inf files. also do i actually need to make a .inf file? if so how?

The new Google option in Evolution works beautifully for both contacts and calendars, and gnome-pilot syncs my Palm Centro perfectly with Evolution. Perfectly, that is, until I choose a Google destination in the gnome-pilot settings.

This happened with 09.something and again with 10.04. When I plug in my Palm Centro smartphone, it starts endless rebooting. I solved it last time by removing modem-manager from /usr/bin.But that program didn't reappear through my upgrade.
Well, when I first upgraded, then plugged in my Palm through a USB cable, the phone rebooted. Then, I was able to sync to JPilot. Attempting the same thing later, the phone rebooted continuously.Today, I seem to be able to sync again.

I had to get a new workstation and its Win7-64. I found out that my Palm TX will not work on their or is supported by the manufacturer (unless u have bluetooth, I dont). So I have been trying to get it to work on my Debian. Using "Palm Devices" "Gnome-Pilot" connects fine and backs up but I dont see any kind of GUI like Palm Desktop. So I still cant work with my palm or install software etc.

I've been trying to get my palm TX to sync with kubuntu 8.10. Quickly after I place the palm on the cradle I get a warning msg that I've attached below. I did follow some directions at one point where it required me to install visor. It had sync'd a few times, but then it started giving me these errors. Eventually I tried to delete the device, etc.
The msg:
Failed to connect using device 'Cradle', on port 'usb:'.
Check your confirguration, as you requested new-style libusb
'usb:' syncing, but have the old-style 'visor' kernel module loaded.
You may need to select a 'ttyUSB...' device

The palm tx can browse the net and send/receive emails wirelessly. It can sync with kpilot via the usb cable. It can 'see' the router at 192.168.1.1 when I browse to there. After browsing various websites/forums (including palm's own).
Have set kpilot to device net:any and the slowest speed 9600, but message is 'Cannot open pilot port net:any'
Message from palm is 'connection between your device and the desktop could not be established. Please check setup and try again.'
I tried a command line which I found somewhere. The result is:

Transfer a file from my webbook (Ubuntu Hardy) to my palm phone.I know that the gnome-pilot application is there and it appears to synch my contacts with evolution however, from the forums it should be possible to transfer files by dragging them to the synch icon but this doesn't appear to happen.
I tried to look it up in the manual from the terminal: man gnome-pilot.This help file is a four liner which directed me to usr/share/ but there aren't any entries there other than conduit configuration files and what looks like a glade gui layout. pilot-xfer just gives me a 'command not found' or equivalent message.

1. The data got wiped off the Zire but hopefully is still in the Windows side of a dual-boot. Can Ubuntu 10.04 pull all the data from the Windows side of my dual-boot or can i copy&paste it into Ubuntu?
2. I think this link shows where the data is supposed to be but have not dared to look there yet.
[url]
3. I don't know how to set-up the Zire in Ubuntu.
4. I don't know how to sync data between the Zire and Ubuntu and can not even remember how to do this in Windows either. I can't remember what i did on the Zire to allow it to sync.
5. I don't know how to look-up the model number of the Zire. On the back of the case it says "m150"
I have actually been struggling with this for quite a few days so any links to nudge me in the right direction might be a huge help. Mostly things just seem to work quite easily in Ubuntu 10.04

I would like to transfer the data from Palm desktop on my windows vista laptop to my Linux netbook. The pda has stopped working so I cannot sync directly from pda to either computers.
Is this possible and if so what software do I need for the Linux and how do I do it, I would need step by step instructions as I am new to Linux and really only use it for web-browsing and skype.

When I try to Sync a Palm Vx to my PC through serial port I get a communication error message in the gadget. My PalmOS Devices application is already configured to use tty0 or tty1 in unsuccessfully trials. I have a lot of information in the addresses, agenda, notes, etc. and do not want to loose that information gathered for years, nor to return to Windows.
As a test, I used a serial mouse in the serial port and It didn't work. I verified the Bios Setup and COM 1 and COM 2 are enabled.
I also checked my system serial support with the following commands:
And messages were OK when compared with typical outputs. My machine is a Pentium 4 CPU 1.6 GHz, in a U8668 motherboard (Award Software International). I have Ubuntu 10.04 LTS with Gnome.
I am new in Linux and don't know Bash yet. I had followed indications from Internet tutorials successfully, but I don't know how to proceed in this case.

I have an old 3E that syncs up very well when I use Vista on my Presario and a USB to Serial port adapter, problem is I really hate Vista. I just installed linux mint 8, which I love but no luck in syncing my palm 3E. Does anyone know if I have a chance of getting this to work? If so I'd appreciate being pointed in the right direction.

I've been running Kubuntu (up to 10.10 now) and also OpenSuSE. I have a Palm Pilot that I want to synchronize to the KDE databases for kontact, kaddressbook, korganizer, etc. Until my upgrade to KDE 4.5.4 I was able to use kpilot, but kpilot is no longer being maintained and has been dropped altogether from KDE 4.5.4. So I've been stranded. It seems that both kpilot and jpilot are quite ancient, not having been materially updated for ten years.
One suggestion I've heard is to replace my Palm with an iPhone, but that's not a path I want to take. The iPhone has capabilities (telephony for one) that I don't need but would be paying dearly for. Not only is the iPhone far more expensive than the Palm; it entails that horrendous and extortionate two-year contract with AT&T.
How I can sync my Palm to the KDE databases? One possibility is some combination of akonadi and OpenSync, but there doesn't seem to be support for that yet, let alone a clear explanation as to how to get that combination to work.

All I do is connect my Palm to the usb port, and it starts a reset loop. It resets, gets booted, and crashes to reset again. What's up with this? BTW, this same palm worked with gnome pilot on Debian and Vector installs, and works currently with an XP install. But on my 11.2 suse, it goes crazy.

what files control the udev device mapping. I'm trying to get a fresh install of 11.3 to sync a palm pilot with jpilot.
I have created a "10-pilot.rules " file in /etc/udev/rules.d containing:
BUS=="usb", SYSFS{product}=="Palm Handheld*", KERNEL=="ttyUSB*", NAME="ttyUSB%n", SYMLINK+="pilot", GROUP="users" MODE="0666", OPTIONS+="last_rule"
when I hit hot-sync I get:
crw-rw-r-- 1 root dialout 188, 0 Jul 18 22:13 /dev/ttyUSB0
crw-rw-r-- 1 root dialout 188, 1 Jul 18 22:13 /dev/ttyUSB1
If spent the last 6 hours googling around and yes I'm a member of "dialout"
What is controlling the attributes of these nodes?
Oh, and P.S. Why'd they put alpha video drivers into the kernel another 3 hours wasted.
