Ubuntu :: Palm Will Not Sync - Failed To Connect Using Device
Jan 24, 2009
I've been trying to get my palm TX to sync with kubuntu 8.10. Quickly after I place the palm on the cradle I get a warning msg that I've attached below. I did follow some directions at one point where it required me to install visor. It had sync'd a few times, but then it started giving me these errors. Eventually I tried to delete the device, etc.
The msg:
Failed to connect using device 'Cradle', on port 'usb:'.
Check your confirguration, as you requested new-style libusb
'usb:' syncing, but have the old-style 'visor' kernel module loaded.
You may need to select a 'ttyUSB...' device
I use jpilot on opensuse 11.3 64bit to sync pim data with my Palm Treo 680 via bluetooth. This worked fine until today. Now I get the following error message when I try to sync: Syncing on device bt: Press the HotSync button now dlp_ReadSysInfo error Exiting with status YNC_ERROR_PI_CONNECT Finished.
The last successfull sync was on the 20th October and today is the 24th October. I did not change any settings in jpilot or on my palm device. So I guess there must have been an update of opensuse which causes this error. But I do not now how to look up the updates during this period or how to undo them. Was there an update between the 20th and the 24th Oktober, which might affect either jpilot or bluetooth functionality?
have Evolution syncing with Palm Treo except for the Tasks. In a previous installation Memos didn't sync. I have set the EToDo, EMemos, ECalendar and EAddress conduits to Copy from PDA, yet no data appears in Evolution. I'm running Ubuntu 9.10.
I have just aquired a Palm Tungsten T3 and am trying to get sync/network via bluetooth working in Natty.I am wondering if there is a 'correct' way to do this as the bluetooth architecture has changed drastically since these howtos were written.
The palm tx can browse the net and send/receive emails wirelessly. It can sync with kpilot via the usb cable. It can 'see' the router at 192.168.1.1 when I browse to there. After browsing various websites/forums (including palm's own).
Have set kpilot to device net:any and the slowest speed 9600, but message is 'Cannot open pilot port net:any'
Message from palm is 'connection between your device and the desktop could not be established. Please check setup and try again.'
I tried a command line which I found somewhere. The result is:
I have an old 3E that syncs up very well when I use Vista on my Presario and a USB to Serial port adapter, problem is I really hate Vista. I just installed linux mint 8, which I love but no luck in syncing my palm 3E. Does anyone know if I have a chance of getting this to work? If so I'd appreciate being pointed in the right direction.
I've recently upgraded from 10.3 to 11.2 (32 bit). On my 10.3 system I was able to sync my Palm Treo, plug in cameras and they'd pop us as filesystems etc. Now, although my printer, and ipod are recognised, anything else I plug in isn't.
* When I plug my camera in and turn it on, nothing happens * When I try to sync my Palm Treo, it seems that the /dev/pilot device isn't created by kpilot.
All I do is connect my Palm to the usb port, and it starts a reset loop. It resets, gets booted, and crashes to reset again. What's up with this? BTW, this same palm worked with gnome pilot on Debian and Vector installs, and works currently with an XP install. But on my 11.2 suse, it goes crazy.
I only just got this old palm that connects via a serial cable. I went to connect it with gnome-pilot but got the error seen in the attachment. I don't know where the permissions are on the device so can anyone tell me how to find that?
When I connect my Treo 650 with a USB cable it works sometimes and not others. A little investigation showed that it always works when I see the Palm device listed in the output of lsusb. While trying to diagnose why it appears sometimes and not others, I discovered that it sometimes appears in /proc/bus/usb/devices and not in lsusb. I didn't think that was possible!
I've tried running kudzu (the Red Hat hardware discovery tool) and killing and restarting udevd.
In 10.04 I was able to plug in my MP3 player and move songs to and fro in Banshee or rhythmbox. Now, I can mount it, but it freezes banshee when trying to access it from banshee (it does appear in the list).
Is there anyway to sync my mtp device? I use Rythmbox and quite like it. It will let me drag and drop songs onto my MTP device. What I'm looking for is a true sync. Something that will delete from the device if it's been deleted from my library. Or update, or anything really. Just a sync, not a drag and drop.
When I try to mount a linux file system that was encrypted using cryptsetup I get the following error: debian:/# mount /dev/sdb3 Command sukey slot 0 mount: u moet een bestandssysteemsoort aangeven mount failed with run_sync status 32 Command failed: Device busy mount.crypto_LUKS(crypto-dmc.c:168): Could not unload dm-crypt device "/dev/mapper/_dev_sdb3", cryptsetup returned HXproc status 240 "mount: u moet een bestandssysteemsoort aangeven" is dutch for "you must specify filesystem type"
I've been happily using Ubuntu One for a few weeks now, synching some files and notes.
Today I inadvertently clicked another folder to 'synchronise with Ubuntu One'. This was a 500mb folder containing work and personal files which I'm not ready to rely on the cloud for.
I must admit I panicked a bit as I attempted to stop the synch. I deleted the entire folder (got it backed up on an external hd) and the synch stopped. I then logged in to the U-One website and deleted the folders and files it had uploaded by that point.
When I restored the folder from the ext hd it started to synch again. This time I removed my machine from the U-One preferences and eventually cancelled my account.
I have now restored that folder under a slightly different name so it doesn't try and synch it.
Meanwhile I've re-started my U-One account and have added my machine so it appears on the webpage. I've uploaded a file via the website. I've also been able to successfully synch Tomboy notes in both directions.
However, I can't synch files with my Home/Ubuntu One folder. I've attached screengrabs of the three tabs in U-One Preferences which show 'disconnected'. If I click 'connect' on the Devices tab, it simply greys out and nothing else happens.
Files in my Home/Ubuntu One folder all have the Unsynchronized emblem against them (a cloud with a cross in a red circle). code...
I tried to install vsftpd on my server and while the installation went fine, I can't run
Code: restart vsftpd As I the get error Code:
restart: Unable to connect to system bus: Failed to connect to socket /var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket: No such file or directory Though I'm able to restart the service with
sudo /etc/init.d/vsftpd restart with a warning telling me to use the service utility. Not only that, but despite the port being open it won't allow me to log in, it just hangs, and I have local users enabled (I've used the default .conf file). Does dbus not come installed in 10.04, and if I did install it would it make a difference for restarting the service? Are there further steps needed not available in the tutorial on the Ubuntu Server Guide for 10.04 to enabling local user authentication? -edit- Figured it out, dbus wasn't installed, vsftpd is working fine now.
I am using UbuntuOne (U1) with 2 computers. I connected with my desktop computer to sync with 3 of my directories (Documents, Projects and Public) and uploaded their contents. I connect to the U1 with my laptop and the Documents directory is no longer able to sync with U1. I right-click on the menu and select to Sync but it doesn't work.
The other folders have updated with no problems, just the Documents folder does not. The Documents folder in the Laptop is cleared out. I was going to sync, and then add the files already on the laptop to the directory and sync to move them up to the cloud (and thus, to download on my desktop the next time I log in).
I am running Red Hat Enterprise Server 6.0 I am having issues getting kerberos configured as a client to join a domain. Im getting below error message. "Failed to join domain: failed to connect to AD: KDC has no support for encryption type"
I'm running Lucid with the 2.6.32-28-generic and 2.6.31-11-rt(abogani's ppa) kernels, on a fairly new laptop. When I boot the rt-kernel, right after grub I get a message:Code:mount: mounting none on /dev failed: no such deviceW: devtmpfs not available, falling back to tmpfs for /devThen after a few seconds, I see a lot of fast moving text and then Ubuntu starts just fine.when booting the generic kernel, I don't see any text at all, but it uses just as long time as the rt-kernel, so I guess the problem affects both.
I've got Ubuntu One syncing a single 25MB folder on 4 computers. On one of these computers, the ubuntuone-syncdaemon process constantly pegs the CPU, using from 50-80% long after any sync-able files have been modified and successfully synced. The process is only using 8.9MB of RAM.
Specs: Ubuntu 10.04 (lucid) Kernel 2.6.32-24-generic 1000.8 MB RAM Pentium 4 2.53GHz Free disk space: 280.9 GB System monitor shows 56.8% total RAM usage, 15.4% swap file usage.
Audio sync method. "Stretches/squeezes" the audio stream to match the timestamps, the parameter is the maximum samples per second by which the audio is changed. -async 1 is a special case where only the start of the audio stream is corrected without any later correction.Searching the net makes one believe that this command is just some sort of magic.People just put it in the line and it just works. Isn't that nice?
It says nothing about how to change the TIME the audio starts syncing. Like do I want it to start 5 seconds delayed? Or what about 5 seconds sooner? What if the audio gets more out of sync as the video goes on? Can I slip it a little at a time? What? No magic? No one mentions a file that already has badly synced audio. So what -async 1 really does is simply start the audio at the beginning of the file. LIKE AS IF THAT ISN'T STANDARD PROCEDURE?So what is the exact solution to syncing a messed up video? And why can't it just do the proper "timestamp" sync in the first place? No docs, no info and you are left out in the cold.
I run Ubuntu 9.10 locally connecting to CentOS5 on a remote server. When I run the following command in the Terminal;ssh -v -L 10005:localhost:10000 root@remote_ip_address -F ~/.ssh_config -i ~/.ssh/private_key_file_nameafter 'Authentication succeeded (publickey)' I get the following for channel 1;sys_tun_open: failed to open tunnel control interface:Permission deniedhowever, it does open an interactive client-session on channel 2 and my browser will then connect (via URL localhost:10005) to Webmin on the remote server which is the object of the exercise. However, because sys_tun_open failed, I am concerned that the transactions may not be encrypted as I understand they would be in proper tunnelling
I'm trying to install ubuntu 9.10, downloaded the iso from the site and burned it on a CD, but when I boot from my cdroom drive and choose install ubuntu option I get an ubuntu grey logo for a couple seconds and the I get this error:
I tried downloading a new copy and burning a new CD but still have the same error, no matter what option I choose when booting the CD.
Does anyone now whats the problem? What I'd like to do is install linux as the only OS (formating everything else) not dual boot or anything, I'm new to linux so it'd help if you guys could give me details on how to fix it
I have installed previous versions of ubuntu on this same computer but using the wizard inside windows.
i had a problem in which my ubuntu system was not able to log in into my account.
1. the option to control volume has disappeared from the panel, moreover when i go to the preference menu and click on the 'sound' then it shows ''waiting for sound system to respond" then after little time it also disappears.now there is no sound on my system.what is the problem i am not able to get. 2.when i start my ubuntu system then it asks for my password,i enter it then it displays a message saying ""cannot update .ICEauthority file in /home/vikram/.ICEauthority " its a authentication file still i have no clue how to get it right.
I've discovered Firefox Sync a while ago, and it's absolutely awesome. Now of course I'd like most of my software to work this way! So is there a way to get the same behavior with Thunderbird?
I posted a similar problem sometime last week...but a little has changed(mainly I can access my files now): I recently performed the auto upgrade to Ubuntu 10.04 and upon restart of my machine I am presented with 3 screens. The first is a simple "GRUB loading". The second is "mount: mounting none on /dev failed: no such device". The third screen is a series of initializations, i.e. /dev/sda1:
clean, (number of files), (number of blocks) *setting preliminary keymap... and so on until it hits the line: *checking battery status
at which point it will cease loading until i press the power button. The next thing that occurs is it kills all the processes it just initialized and shuts down the computer. I read that this is likely a problem from loading the wrong kernel and I can get into my files (using a boot 9.10 boot key). The problem is I don't know what files to change in order to get my system booting the right kernel.
