View 4 RepliesI have a problem with a note on the server. When I try to open it I get the message "OOPS-D-1594appserver96743". I can't open or delete this file anymore. Since I have this problem the sync with Tomboy also doesn't work. Is there way to delete this broken note on the server?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI would like to overwrite files in a directory tree, recursively. The ones I would like to overwrite match the filename "x_alpha*.png" and have a size exactly 456 bytes. Is there any way to search for these recursively in a directory tree, and overwrite them with a reference file, for example "e:mydirgood.png"
I am using Windows 7, but I have UnxUtils, so I can use those too. What I am looking for is something like this, generated automatically:
copy /y e:mydirgood.png e:mydiracx_alpha0023.png
copy /y e:mydirgood.png e:mydirefgx_alpha0045.png
copy /y e:mydirgood.png e:mydirhx_alpha0248.png
I am trying to setup Slacware 13.1 x86_64 to a encrypted partition. I used the README_CRYPT.TXT howto : [URL] At the step when I create an initrd.gz I get this error: Quote: ERROR: No /lib/modules/2.6.33.4-smp kernel modules tree found for kernel "2.6.33.4-smp"
I tried to look into the directory and there was only modules under 2.6.44.3. So I tried to change the command into: Quote: mkinitrd -c -k 2.6.33.4 -m ext3 -f ext3 -r cryptroot -C /dev/sda2
This command was successful, but I don't know if this is alright. I made the changes in lilo.conf, add initrd = initrd.gz. This is all on unencrypted /boot partition. The boot=/dev/sda1 I also set for the unencrypted boot partition. When I boot the system I get a kernel panic:

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using evolution for my email client, and it shows me hidden files and folders in the folder tree. Basically, my email folder is in a unix folder on a system, and that system logs me into my folder when I try using evolution. The downside is that files like .bashrc, .bash_profile and other weird stuff end up in the foldertree view
See how the tree would show bashrc and .lynxrc? The folder "documents" shouldn't be showing either.Yeah, that's really annoying. It showing the contents of the $HOME folder that I login to.In thunderbird those things wouldn't show.It must be evolution specific.Anyone have an idea how to fix this issue?
I have a serious problem in booting centos 5.4 x86 as shown in the attached picture.I tried to backup before using fsck command, but I could not make a backup of damaged lvm on hard drive.First I made a rescue centos at virtualbox, and installed centos 5.4 x86 on virtual hard disk. And I attatched damaged hard drive. S I can see this damaged hard drive's lvm as attached picture. Please let me know how to backup my files and to use "fsck.ext3 --rebuild-tree using livecd".
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a directory listing with many subdirectories having many files. I want to recursively search for the oldest 5 files starting from the base directory and not 5 from each subdirectory. I am writing a shell script which sorts them using ls -lRtur|egrep "txt|jpg" > /tmp/file1 Now from this /tmp/file1 file I want to sort the files same as what the ls -ltr command does that is oldest file time to newest file time first. How do I sort based on Linux time stamp? The files itself also have Linux timestamps embedded in them So I can sort based after extracting them as well if it is easier.
My /tmp/file1 has entries like below.
-rw-rw-r--. 1 usr1 usr1 705 2010-01-22 17:25 sample20100603173659.jpg
I want to get the 5 oldest files and then delete them.
I purchased a larger hard drive to upgrade my HTPC running MythTV and a Samba file server. I put the old hard drive into an e-SATA enclosure and can still boot to it to access my files, but I can't seem to mount it correctly under the new installation to copy over my files even though I have the mount passphrase and encrypted filenames key.I have tried using this howto, but I run into problems with the encrypted filenames. This is how I'm doing it. I replaced the actual key data with A's and B's to protect my keys:
Code:
$ sudo -i
# ecryptfs-add-passphrase --fnek

I upgraded from ubuntu 9.10 to 11.04. During installation (Natty) I chosen the option to encrypt the home folder. After a day the system crashed. It was showing that disk is having health problems. If I boot from live cd then i cant access the home folder. When I tried to mount the home folder, it says "Reading directory: input/output error"
Because I used Karmic without problem I reinstalled the Karmic, then I can mount the home folder, but cant access it as it was encrypted. Now Karmic is installed. I tried to boot from Live CD of Natty and tried to mount /home folder, it says some super-block issues. How to access the files in the home folder?
I no longer can log into my ubuntu mail server as a normal user after installing dtc. I have been trying to resolve the issue but to no avail so I am now going to re-install ubuntu and re-configure the mail server. The problem is that I may have some files in the normal user's profile that I want to backup before I do the re-installation. At least I want to see what folders and files are in there. The other issue is that my hard drive is encrypted. How do I access the files and folders using root?
View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter trying Truecrypt, LUKS, and Ecryptfs I decided to try NTFS encryption. Now, on a dual boot computer from Ubuntu I can browse the encrypted folders but can not open the encrypted files. All attempts produce access denials yet the Unix file permissions appear to be "0777" (owner, group, and world readable-writable).
Is there someway to get Ubuntu's NTFS software to recognize and decrypt the encrypted files? Would a different NTFS package work such as NTFS-3g?
I backed up all of my files last night via SFTP before I reinstalled Ubuntu *Since nobody answered my question* and I went ahead and encrypted my home folder. How do I open port 22 like Ubuntu normally has it? I've tried this guideBut it didn't work, how do I set up SSH? I really need those files.---------- Post added 07-05-11 at 10:17 AM ----------Also, my Desktop is encrypted, but I forget, but I may have encrypted my laptop since the port is also closed on that as well.
View 3 Replies View RelatedTwo machines -- both 64-bit, both the latest Truecrypt installed, one Windows, one Linux. I created encrypted pendrive (using partition mode; not file-partition on regular partition) with FAT system on it. I copied several files/directories there -- using Windows. Then I unmounted it, mounted in Linux, but when I checked if everything is OK, it appeared that only the highest level of file hierarchy is visible -- i.e. only files and directories at mount point. Directories are seen as empty (in fact they are NOT empty). When I unmount pendrive and mount it again on Windows, all files/subdirectories are visible again. It is not an issue with older version of TC on Linux, because the version is the same. The question: how to make files in subdirectories visible on Linux?

I installed Ubuntu 10.10 64 on my laptop with the entire 500gb setup as encrypted LVM. This has worked well for several months with no problems. During this time i have been backing up the data to an external usb drive (1tb) on a regular basis. The usb drive was not encrypted. So, I thought it would be a good idea to encrypt the backup drive too. I wiped out the backup drive and set it up as one large encrypted lvm and mbr. This seemed to work fine but immediately afterwards I decided to erase that and set it up as encrypted lvm guid instead of mbr. I couldn't delete it while logged into my desktop so i decided to do it from a bootable gparted usb stick. In gparted i erased the 1TB backup drive once again and planned on setting it up the way I wanted once I was logged back into my ubuntu desktop. Now I cant boot into my desktop with the following errors:
cryptsetup: evms_activate is not available b0d) does not begin with /dev/mapper/
Then after waiting for a few minutes I get an error followed by (initramfs)
When booting from a live version of ubuntu the 250MB boot patition is recognized and 500 partion is there but it is labeled as empty/unused.
Also, I did choose to use the exact same passphrase as what is used on the main bootable drive when I set up the encrypted partition on the external 1TB drive.
I recently had to reinstall ubuntu, so I backed up both my ~.gnupgp and ~.gnome2 folders and copied them over in the new installation. My old keys show up just fine in the password manager, but when I attempt to open a file encrypted with one of them, I get the error: "Could not display (name of file): There is no application installed for PGP/MIME-encrypted message header files"
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've just started using ubuntu one. However, some of the files I store on there are sensitive so I encrypt them using seahorse. Right click, encrypt etc etc. My question is, is there a way to automatically get the encrypt process to delete the un-encrypted file when it makes the new encrypted copy?
View 6 Replies View RelatedSo, I read a lot of PDFs and I would like to be able to take notes on it and export as a pdf so it can be read by other PDF viewers. I've read a few older posts about this and xournal sounded like a good option. I've tried whytboard a little and didn't really seem like what I wanted. I also like zotero for research stuff and the note taking they have for webpage SS and documents is GREAT but I haven't been able to get pdf to work for note taking or maybe it isn't implemented yet? If there was a way to make Zotero notes to work with pdf that would be perfect!
Also, its been a few years since the last pdf notes post that I could find, what are people using these days? any noteworthy programs?
I've got input/output error from files in encrypted ext4 partition (external hdd), and I cannot delete them. What can I do to fix this? I don't need to recover them, I just need to delete them

View 2 Replies View Relatedever since i installed 11.1 last summer, there has been this four note chord that sounds off at seemingly random times. (it's not in 10.3 as i'm still running two of them.) i've not been able to find what it is and turn it off. at first i thought it was thunderbird, nope. then something in firefox, don't really think so. it's not a system sound that i can find. sure would like to disable it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've discovered BasKet, and love it. However, I don't use KDE, and installing it on something else (CrunchBang in my case, which is Ubuntu-based) can mean a huge number of dependencies. (e.g. 28 MB just for kde-icons-oxygen, an icon theme). I don't know if most of them are actually needed though - relatively few "k..." programs are actually showing in the task manager when I run basket: kded, kdeinit, kio_file, klauncher, and knotify.

I'm having an issue with my display. Every few minutes or so it dims and a 4 note chord is played.
I have isolated it to: "new-host-5org.kde.powerdevil.backlighthelperQDBusConnection: system D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave".
And it most certainly is misbehaving. I'm running Jessie 8.2 with the KDE desktop on a HP Elitebook 8730w with NVIDIA Quadro G94GLM graphics.
I'm trying to figure out how to change the tomboy saving notation (.note) to (.txt). I'm fairly new to Linux so I may be wrong in thinking this is possible. However, if it is possible, a finger in the right direction would be appreciated.
PS: if it isn't possible, maybe there is a way to change the name of the actual .note files in ~/.local/share/tomboy/ to something more readable. Right now they show up like this:
8e824ab7-ba6f-4018-b74d-1a5a245a60bd.note Which is of course makes it difficult to determine which file I'm actually looking at.
