I'm trying to install fedora 10 onto the HP mini note, I have read how to install from another forum but it does not seem to work. I have setup a USB install using unetbootin. I only get white box lines for a mouse cursor the when it finally begins like it is about to boot into the live installation it freezes and can go no further.
View 2 RepliesI just installed Debian (lenny) on my HP 2133 Mini-Note (KX869AT). I've managed to get everything working, even the Broadcom wireless adapter, but the display is too large for the actual screen size. To get the screen to a more manageable resolution, I did copy the xorg.conf file of another HP 2133 Mini-Note user. (It was probably a different model; there are several versions of the HP 2133, hence the model number in the description.) Icons and things hide off-screen. The text on the GNOME panel is quite large.
View 5 Replies View RelatedBoth F15 KDE Live CD and DVD new installs fail on HP 2133 mini notebook. The device has previously accepted F12 installation without a problem. The HP 2133 has a VIA C7 processor. Is this CPU is no longer compatible with Fedora? The syslog repeats endlessly 'microcode: no support for this CPU vendor'. The Live CD will not even begin the install to diskl. The DVD will install but will fail on reboot with the microcode error. How to overcome this installation problem?. Is there a kernel upgrade or microcode update that has already resolved this and how can it be installed?

I have a problem with a note on the server. When I try to open it I get the message "OOPS-D-1594appserver96743". I can't open or delete this file anymore. Since I have this problem the sync with Tomboy also doesn't work. Is there way to delete this broken note on the server?

For some reason my wired usb keyboard will not respond unless I press the caps lock button while it loads the begging. (I don't know if another button will work, ive only used the caps button since i can see the light come on) once it loads i skip the disk check and anaconda runs, i get the warning (mini-wm:1462): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: :1 .
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm just starting out with Ubuntu 10.10 on the desktop, (got VPS experience) and I'm running into an issue when installing Ubuntu 64bit. One that I'm unable to reproduce with the 32bit (x84/i368) disk. Just to note, the ISO's and disks have been checked with matching MBR.
I'm able to run the live CD on both versions perfectly. However when I press next after the 3th step of installation (The one in which you can choose whether you want to install updates and 3th party software or not), the Ubuntu 64 bit version stalls. Ubuntu doesn't freeze or anything, but it just doesn't seem able to go to the next step. (Partitioning)The odd thing about is that I can access the step perfectly on the 32bit disk. Now here is the question..... What could be the clarification for this issue and would it be possible to resolve it? (If so, how?)
P.S. Attached you can find a dxdiag output of the laptop. It's an Acer Aspire 7520G.
I downloaded the latest version of DirectX and installed it through Wine. It seemed to work, but whenever I try to play Akane's new Death Note game, it says 'Failed to initialize DirectX Audio' and closes the window. How can I fix this problem? I need my fan service!
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install version 10.04 of the ubuntu netbook remix on my HP 2133 netbook. I'll try and be as thorough as I can with the information but I'm new to Ubuntu so there's a chance I'm missing something crucial. I'm using Universal USB Installer v.1.60 to make the boot disk. I've checked the MD5 checksums and they're fine. According to the compatibility list it should work straight out the box so I don't know what's going on.
Here's what's happening. I put the USB drive in and boot off it using the BIOS menu. I get a text cursor blinking in the top left corner of my screen for a few seconds and then it just jumps straight back into windows. This is really starting to bug me as I've checked and double checked everything. The only thing I can think of is that it's because my netbook has a VIA C7-M rather than an Intel Atom processor but, as I've mentioned, the compatibility page says it should work. If it is because of this, can I get around it and if so, how?

ever since i installed 11.1 last summer, there has been this four note chord that sounds off at seemingly random times. (it's not in 10.3 as i'm still running two of them.) i've not been able to find what it is and turn it off. at first i thought it was thunderbird, nope. then something in firefox, don't really think so. it's not a system sound that i can find. sure would like to disable it.

I've read a few older posts about this and xournal sounded like a good option. I've tried whytboard a little and didn't really seem like what I wanted. I also like zotero for research stuff and the note taking they have for webpage SS and documents is GREAT but I haven't been able to get pdf to work for note taking or maybe it isn't implemented yet? If there was a way to make Zotero notes to work with pdf that would be perfect!
Also, its been a few years since the last pdf notes post that I could find, what are people using these days? any noteworthy programs?
How best to get from 9.04 to 10.04 on my Dell Mini 9?
I hadn't upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10 because I read that the WiFi card no longer worked with 9.10 on the DM9. What I see now indicates that to get from 9.04 to 10.04 I MUST go thru 9.10. If that is the case, I won't be able to download 10.04 because I won't have a WiFi connection.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to boot my Dell Mini 12 from a USB boot disk with the ubuntu-9.10-alternate-lpia.iso image installed (I've also tried ubuntu-9.10-netbook-remix-i386.iso). I turn the machine on, press F12 to get to the boot menu, then select the USB disk. After this I just get a blinking cursor at the top left of the screen and nothing else happens.

However, I don't use KDE, and installing it on something else (CrunchBang in my case, which is Ubuntu-based) can mean a huge number of dependencies. (e.g. 28 MB just for kde-icons-oxygen, an icon theme). I don't know if most of them are actually needed though - relatively few "k..." programs are actually showing in the task manager when I run basket: kded, kdeinit, kio_file, klauncher, and knotify.

I install ubuntu in a compaq mini CQ10 and it worked very well, found no problems with the hardware, then I start to download more than 200 mb of updates from the update manager, after the reboot, a black screen appears with a underscore in the top and ubuntu doesn't start.

I'm trying to install Ubuntu on my Mini 700 EL and when I start it doesn't give me the option to install it alongside Windows. Wubi does not give me the option to install onto the system, only to reboot and install it completely. When I try to install from booting from the USB key, I decide to edit partitions manually and I don't get the option of resizing the Windows partition, I can only delete it.

If after selecting 'try ubuntu' from the Live USB and setting the desktop and wireless up, is there a way I could image that config on the same or different USB. It would be like installing Ubuntu 10.10 on a USB device instead of a HD. The Mini has 1G RAM.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have installed Ubuntu 10.10 Minimal on a 2GB USB using CLI and it is working very well after I added a few things. I intend to use it on machines other than my own. But the GRUB boot loader was installed to the main system on my machine and it is booting from there.
During the installation it was said that the bootloader can be installed on a floppy. So I started a new 2 GB stick and tried to install the boot loader on a floppy but my computer does not recognize floppies anymore (seems to be a wider problem with recent distributions).
So I tried to install the bootloader on a different USB stick and and this also did not work. Cannot find recent and relatively easy way to install GRUB boot loader to a stick.
I'm having an issue with my display. Every few minutes or so it dims and a 4 note chord is played.
I have isolated it to: "new-host-5org.kde.powerdevil.backlighthelperQDBusConnection: system D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave".
And it most certainly is misbehaving. I'm running Jessie 8.2 with the KDE desktop on a HP Elitebook 8730w with NVIDIA Quadro G94GLM graphics.
