View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm using Debian 503 Lenny, Gnome. My machine, She-Beast, is a 2001 Compaq Presorry-o, 1100GHz Celery. With every, that is, E V E R Y, attempt to install any .deb, it fails. When I 2x click on the .deb icon, or when I r-click -->Open with archive manager, I get a dialog window:
"Could not open "(filename).deb". Archive type not supported."
If I use root terminal, dpkg -i, similar responses come up.
surprisingly come across this file that the ubuntu archive manager is simply unable to unpack.these are some articles that i am trying to download.strangely i have never heard of the format and the page asks me to download "stuffit expander" to allow me to view the pdf files.
however when i download the file saving it on the desktop, and try to open it, archive manager is simply unable to do so!this is the title of the downloaded file -
VOL13_NO3_4.sit
and its 1.3 MB
and i am as of now unable to open it in any way.
I make all as mentioned in this guide [URL] and the MediaTomb working with the script but when I try to open .mkv file PS3 says that "The data type is not supported" in same time it shows the files in the menu normally and marked it unsupported thumbnail after I try to play it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI will try to keep this straight-forward. Yesterday I was able to access an ubuntu 10.10 (edubuntu) desktop using the tightVNC viewer that I installed on my Vista laptop. I never set anything up on the desktop it just worked and I didn't question it.
Today I get the following error on the viewer software: "Server did not offer supported security type" The only thing that has changed was that I installed a bunch of updates yesterday afternoon, but I am not sure what changed.

Here [URL].. it says that you need to provide a block size to open an archive. What does that mean, and what would be a good number to use?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to extract an RAR file which has my stuff on it from university, they use Windows Vista Ultimate so i thought i would be safe when saving my work to my flash drive. So i saved my work with the program winzip. when i got home i put in my flash drive and asked Kubuntu to extract only to find i don't have a RAR program to extract so i asked to install one via the Kpackage Manager and everything seemed fine so i asked it to extract again and said cannot extract unknown file. so i went through the terminal to install again and to make sure they were no bits of the install missing and i got this.
robert@HP-COMPAQ-LINUX-KDE:~$ sudo apt-get install unrar-nonfree

Is there a way to decrypt this RAR file that vista has made? Also one more thing once ive managed to decrypt and extract my work what is the reccomended format to between vista and kubuntu so i wont get anymore issues?

Is there a way to compress this whole directory without going through and compressing every folder individually, while maintaining less than a 50mb file size?

I am trying to Install Open Suse 11.3 (burned as an ISO DVD) along with existing Win 2008 R2 OS. When I try to boot from the DVD it just logs in to Win2008 though boot from CD/DVD is enabled in the boot sequence. So i tried to mount the ISO and run from Windows ! BUT I get an error before installation starts telling that Win2008 R2 is not supported in open suse installer! Is there anything I can do to overcome this and install/retain both OS? In fact I am even trying to c hange my win2008 from R2 to Enterprise to see if I can overcome the problem!
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've downloaded some torrents, and someone CONVENIENTLY made them a multiple file archive instead of a single file.
I've tried unrar -x <filename>-part1.rar, which it says it completes, then I don't see the file. What do I need to do? WinRAR usually decompresses them just fine, but on Linux is where I have the problem.
More importantly, why on Earth would anybody do this?
I have a RAR archive, split into 40 sections, containing a folder with a total of 2GB of data. When I Open the Archive using "File Roller 2.30.1.1" and drag the archived folder to destination folder, it says that its uncompressing, but after its uncompressed, there is nothing there, in the destination folder. Where was the 2GB extracted stuff gone?
