Jan 14, 2011Now it seems as though all of my printers and my scanners have disappeared, also thunderbird will not open anymore. I find this very strange.. I can't even think of why this would happen.--When I start thunderbird it says starting thunderbird then does nothing.. if I try to start it again it says that it's already running.. which it is not..I have all of my updates updated.. You are using Ubuntu 11.04 - the Natty Narwhal - released in April 2011 and supported until October 2012.

May 25, 2010thunderbird not working after upgrade I finally got around to doing some more testing after I upgraded from Ubuntu 9.x to 10.x and now Thunderbird wont work right. It wont let me see the messages correctly. its slow and takes forever to load. I cannot read mail or switch between accounts easily any more. Do i need to remove it and reload? Will I lose all my email and my account settings?

May 25, 2010I finally got around to doing some more testing after I upgraded from Ubuntu 9.x to 10.x and now Thunderbird wont work right.
It wont let me see the messages correctly. its slow and takes forever to load.
What do i need to do to correct this?

Plz help, its kinda irritating.Ive also tried out Empathy IM and it wont work finding my facebook chat account, i havent tried it with anything else yet but its just not connecting.It says theres a network problem or the problems coming from facebook.

Oct 25, 2010Instead of upgrading to 10.10, I decided to install everything from scratch. Since the installation I can't make Firefox and Thunderbird work with the profiles I have always used on an NFS share. Locally Everything seems to work fine, but when I use the profiles on my NFS server I get in trouble. With Thunderbird I can read the email that is already there, but I can't get new one. It seems to hang during the connection. I can also write Drafts, and save them. RSS seems to work too. With Firefox I get the error "the bookmark and history system will not be functional because one of Firefox's files is in use by another application". When I try to open a url it doesn't work. Both applications start very slowly, but only when I open the profiles on the NFS share. I can happily read and write files on that share, so it can't be an access problem. I have a 64 bit machine, and I am using the Firefox 3.6.11 32 bit that I downloaded separately. Thunderbird is the one coming with the distribution.

Left clicking and selecting "open in browser" also doesn't work.I checked in Firefox to make sure I had it set as my default browser, but when I click on an html file it opens in Konquerer. Is there another setting I should change?

I can receive mail (pop3) no problem, but the SMTP server is not found, so I can't send Emails unless I log in to Gmail. Slackware :: Thunderbird Links No Longer Working
Dec 24, 2010So, approx 2 weeks ago, clicking on links in Thunderbird stopped working. There is no response in the browser whether it is open or not. I am able to paste the links to the browser just fine. Being congenitally lazy, I would rather just click them. I have upgraded to the latest version of Thunderbird and have the same issue. I have tried using Swiftfox, Firefox and Opera - all give the same non-response.
Am not getting any error messages, the links just do not open. Can't find any settings relevant to this issue.Any bright ideas out there?

Aug 26, 2010Thanks to Lucid not working properly on i845, i855 and other 8xx chips, had to re-install Karmic on my mum's computer.I saved all the data from her old install and I ve managed to get all her old emails from thunderbird, but I cant import her address book.In Thunderbird/tools/import/addressbooks it only allows importing of LDIF, .tab, .csv and .txt files, but I cant find any of these files in any of the Thunderbird, .Thunderbird, Mozilla-Thunderbird or Mozilla folders in Home folder or anywhere, all I can find is "abook.mab" which IS supposed to be her address book, but when I try and import it the entries are blank and/or indecipherable (prob cos not a compatible file type).
Its one of those "simple" things to do, thats taken hours and hours of time, but that I cant actually find out how to do.
Software :: Importing Thunderbird Settings From Portable Apps Thunderbird
Sep 13, 2010I had a portable apps version of Thunderbird (windows) that runs off a thumb drive and wanted to take the settings and transfer them to my Thunderbird that's on my Linux computer.
This is what I did:
First, I installed thunderbird on my Ubuntu 10.04 Linux box and opened it, and closed it (so that it would create the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder in the user account).
Then, I renamed the linux /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder to .thunderbird_ORIGINAL
Then, I created a new /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder
Then, I took the windows e:ThunderbirdPortableDataprofile folder and copied it to the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder.
Then, I looked into the /home/<username>/.thunderbird_ORIGINAL folder and wrote down the name of the folder with the ".default" extension.
Then, I renamed the profile folder (that came from the windows e:ThunderbirdPortableData folder) "<name-I-wrote-down>.default".
And then, I copied the profiles.ini folder from /home/<username>/.thunderbird_ORIGINAL to the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder.
I opened up Thunderbird in Linux and everything seems fine! (I'll definitely be keeping a backup just in case)
My question is: is this fine and dandy, or a recipe for disaster?

When I then go back to my VirtualBox I cannot select the CTRL-right to activate the keyboard. The mouse still works correctly but I cannot type anything.

My problem is (after substantial searching) that I need to have both users ('juliusz' and 'sarah') running Thunderbird but with the same profile (settings, email, accounts etc. preferably of 'juliusz'). The only results on the internet are share Thunderbird between Windows and Ubuntu.
I have two users juliusz and sarah. I need either of them to have the same profile, always in synch whenever they logon to own account. When I tried to edit sarah's /home/sarah/.mozilla-thunderbird/profile.ini by inserting: Path=/home/juliusz/.mozilla-thunderbird/xxxxxxx.default after i run Thunderbird for 'sarah' I get message: "Thunderbird is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Thunderbird process, or restart your system." I checked with "ps aux" there is no Thunderbird running in sarah's session. There is no Thunderbird running in juliusz's session when I reloged to juliusz.

It looks like a Qt4 problem, I have installed Qt4 with all possible dependencies, re-installed vlc several times but no effect! cvlc as proposed doesn't react.

Jan 19, 2011this is with both network manager and WICD, a problem i've had since i got ubuntu - multiple wipes and reinstalls the wifi is supported out of the box, the problem i've randomly run into since installing is, it will randomly stop detecting networks "no networks detected"
i've noticed over time as this as been happening, that it usually happens whenever there is a high load - multiple videos going on multiple tabs, videos queued up etc. its never happened during regular browsing - theres always a lot going on when it happens, almost like it collapses. the only way to fix this, is to quit the manager - shut off the computer (restarting doesnt work) and then it comes back after

Server :: Pages With SSL Not Working - Apache Fails To Load
Aug 13, 2010I have 2 servers that are mirrored. They host 3 separate websites. Two of these websites are regular HTTP and the other is HTTPS with Digest authentication as well. The reason there are 2 servers is because one is a primary and the other secondary in case the primary goes down. Recently I decided to upgrade the secondary server then make it the primary server. I have done most of the configuration and the sites using regular HTTP are working perfectly fine. The page using SSL is not. Apache fails to load and here are the errors I am receiving the the error log file:

Mar 14, 2015Have a very unusual problem that I am looking at troubleshooting. Only problem is I don't know where to start.I have the following wireless usb device:

Now it is fine when browsing the web, but whenever I download a large file/game from Steam it becomes unresponsive and stops working.I have noticed it happens whenever the download is maxed..which at the moment is at around 5.4mbps on steam.Never get a warning...just internet stops working...no pages can be displayed...The connection never disconnects.I can only get it working again when I unplug it and re insert it back in again.
Things I have tried:
- Returning it to the shop and getting a new one (didn't fix it).

Aug 6, 2011My LAN has 2 PCs installed, Ubuntu 10.04 and Windows XP. I run the server on Ubuntu, and client on Windows XP. Because I am doing stress test, so the client will keep sending tons of packets to server.
The strange thing is: After few seconds, the client program crash because of insufficient network buffer, the server is still ok. But after that I cant connect Ubuntu PC anymore until I restart it. And I check the router, the led for the Ubuntu PC is always ON (not blinking), look like it is jam already.

Feb 12, 2010I've been trying to get SELinux working in OpenSUSE 11.2. So far I can get to runlevel 3 with enforcing=0. Before I start tinkering with audit2allow, The 11.2 repository gives me these policy rpms:

But that version of policy has some issues in OpenSUSE:
1) failure to allow the graphical desktop to load (even with enforcing=0) . The following message appears in the console during boot:

SELinux shouldn't be preventing anything, so I don't see how modifying policy will solve that. Ideas?
2) Attempting to boot to runlevel 5 with kernel parms "security=selinux selinux=1 enforcing=0", I'm dropped off in runlevel 3 instead. I'm getting a couple of pages of AVC errors after boot (see below). I've tried several other versions of the policy without luck:

Oct 2, 2010When i open one of the web browsers i use and try to load a web site it's taking to long to respond and sometimes it doesnt load the website at all. I have tried with firefox,epiphany,opera with all the same results. I am sure that this is not a problem with my internet connection because i don't have these problems with windows.Also the network manager connection settings are correct
I also tried choosing the old kernel(2.6.32.24) to boot from but no success.The problem is the same as if i am using the 2.6.32.25 kernel. The strange thing is that i can download packages from synaptic with full speed. Last think.I have recently downloaded the recommended updates from the update manager but i don't remember what are the things that where updated.
Ubuntu Installation :: Would Not Load After Install / Will Load Via Live Cd
Feb 26, 2010I'm trying to install Ubuntu (9.10) on my sisters computer. I have installed ubuntu 9.10, but when I try to boot it from hard drive, it would stop loading a bit after the logo appears. The screen would turn off while the system is still running. Live version of Ubuntu works after reports of errors. I tried to search for the problem all over the forum, and could not find a good lead to figure out the problem.
So far to figure out the problem, I verified if cd is corrupted. No issues there. Googled the problem, and seems like other users were able to install 7.04 (old posts).
Its so weird though that live version works and the installed version does not.

Feb 9, 2009I had Fedora 7 and Windows Vista dual booting on my computer. I just installed Fedora 10. When the live CD asked me where to install it, I chose "Remove all Linux Partitions and create default layout" The installation went perfectly, but now when reboot my computer, it boots directly into Fedora; GRUB does not load to ask me which OS I want to load. I know I did not overwrite Vista because I can still view my Vista files through Fedora. Here is my grub.conf file:
