Ubuntu :: Stock Market EOD Quote Retriever?

Feb 22, 2010

Anyone know of of an automated stock market end of day quote retriever? Ideally this software would be a service that automatically updated a MySQL Database of stock quotes for EOD data (probably from Yahoo).

Software :: Able To Access Forensics > Retriever?

Apr 10, 2011

I am trying to find Helix 1.8 distros which no sites currently have them but I am able to find them just can't download them. It appears to be "empty" on the server to which the Helix ISO distros is hosted at. I have tried many sites that I found has Helix 1.7, 1.8, and 3.0. 3.0 does not come with some features that 1.8 does, like Endeavour File Management, so that I can go to Forensics > Retriever. I currently have Helix3 Pro, which does not have, Forensics program > Retriever. Frankly, 1.8 does Endeavour File Management build in. So I am able to access Forensics > Retriever.

Ubuntu :: Will Not Boot \ Suddenly Stopped And Displayed The Following:Quote?

Jul 6, 2011

My pc went kaput a while ago and I've been using my friends laptop for the mean time. The HDD is having issues so I've been running ubuntu 10.04 on a live 8gb flash with persistence. I got real comfortable with this and saved important data on the live usb.Earlier today the pc did not shutdown correctly. When I restarted, ubuntu started booting and even showed the 5 moving dot loading screen, then it suddenly stopped and displayed the following:Quote:

Ubuntu :: BASH Quote - Calling Commands Stored In A Variable?

Feb 19, 2010

I am having some weird problems with calling commands stored in a variable (I need to do this to assemble a command with a bunch of parameters automatically and then execute it).Example code that will replicate the weirdness:

$ echo "hello world" > "test file.txt"
$ cat "test file.txt"
hello world

[code]....

I would expect the output to be:

hello world

What happens to the quotes? I have tried various combinations of single quotes, escaped quotes, etc, but it seems like quotes in a variable are not evaluated as quotes when that variable is executed.

Ubuntu :: Scripting For A Real Stock Ticker?

Oct 6, 2010

I'm a business student and we have a stock ticker in the atrium of our building that was being run off of an old 386 computer that bit the dust. Unfortunately, the individuals who wrote the program that updates the ticker (with selected stocks only, from a student run portfolio) are long gone.

Basically, I'm looking for way to display certain stock quotes updated every few minutes on a real-life ticker (green lettering, scrolling side to side) with selected stocks, including the changes in stock price (arrows as well).

I've looked into programs like SMTM, but I'm not quite finding what I need. I don't have much scripting knowledge but I figured this could be done relatively easily, perhaps with GREP?

Ubuntu Servers :: Trying To Build Own Stock Database

Sep 1, 2011

Looking for suggestions on what tools to use. I'm a finance major with limited programming knowledge. I would like to start collecting my own stock data. I would like to pull data from google finance or something similar. Also, I subscribe to data from AAII, American Asso. of Individual Investors, and would like to add that data into the database. and be able to have a nice gui to run queries on. My interests are finding if there are various different arbitrage opportunities and fundamental value investments.

Very low budget. Want to run it on ubuntu. I was looking at Postgre SQL as the database, but really have no idea what is optimal. Not to sure on the gui or how to pull the data. If anyone is interested in the topic and would like to help me set up and run algorithms let me know too.

Ubuntu Installation :: 10.10 - Creating New Partition To Stock Files

I am using ubuntu 8.04 right now but I'd like to install ubuntu 10.10 or ubuntuStudio. Well I did it for trying as a dual boot just to see if it works. But I have files to back up. I tried to have them on dvds or usb but it takes time. I want to know if I can create a new partition where to stock my files and then erase the rest to install ubuntu 10.10.

When I am in gparted I see:
/dev/sda 111.79GB:
/dev/sda1 ext3 107GB
/dev/sda2 extended 4.58GB -> I cant use it
/dev/sda5 ext3 4.3GB
/dev/sdb fat32 15GB -> I think its my ubuntustudio
Is there any chance to create a new partition (40GB) to stock my files?

Ubuntu Installation :: Search For Installed PPA Packages That Are Not In Stock Repository?

Dec 19, 2010

I had some major bugs with KDE 4.3 and 4.4 and the only way that I could fix them was to install the entire KDE 4.5. This was mid-Summer. Now I would like to upgrade to Maverick the proper way and have 4.5 in a stock repo.

I managed to get most of kde back to stock by luck and uninstall/reinstalling kdebase stuff and kubuntu-desktop a couple of times. A pain in the neck trying to find important packages that are already installed from a previous PPA.
BTW my sources.list is stock right now.

Does anyone know of a way to search for installed PPA packages that are not in the stock repository?

Fedora :: Inserting To Escape Single Quote For Mysql Insert?

Oct 2, 2010

the project I'm working on requires parsing a text file with fields separated by the | char and using perl to insert/update a mysql database. Some of the fields are simple numeric and others are text fields. In some of the text fields I run into a problem creating a proper insert statement for the perl api to mysql if I don't escape the single quote (') char with a backslash (). I can take each text file and do a manual subsitutiton, but I would prefer to use the script that prepares the text file to do it for me. I've tried sed (ex: sed s/'/\'/g ) and it runs cleanly, but does nothing to accomplish my goal. I suppose I could write a function to read the file character by character and write it out that way, but it seems a waste.

General :: Sed Command - Find Line Not Beginning With Double Quote

Mar 15, 2011

I need to find each line in a file which does NOT begin with a double quote (") and append that line to the previous line. I have been successful doing this using the following command:
cat filname.csv | sed -e :a -e '$!Ns/
[^"]//;ta -e 'P;D' > newfilename.csv

My issue is the substitution. As you would expect after the line is appended to the previous line the first character is removed. I need it to not be removed. I tried:
cat filname.csv | sed -e :a -e '$!Ns/
[^"]/&/;ta -e 'P;D' > newfilename.csv
but it just hangs.

Goal:
Input:
"line 1"
line 2
Output with existing sed command is:
line 1ine2
I need it to be line1line2.
