Anyone know of of an automated stock market end of day quote retriever? Ideally this software would be a service that automatically updated a MySQL Database of stock quotes for EOD data (probably from Yahoo).

I upgrading to natty 11.04 and lost all my gnome applets. Is there any good stock programs that work with natty and unity? I liked the invest applet on top bar in maverick 10.10. A standalone program to track stocks would be good also if no applet option is available.

I have a dedicated server with fc-9. I have several domains. They are located in /home/domainname/html Under each /home/domainname I have added a webalizer.conf file. Recently I moved video files into a subdomain so I could track usage and generate reports on the use of these video files. Hence the main domain html files call the sub-domain to present flash files for viewing and .avi, .ogm, mp4, etc files for downloading.
So I have for directories:
/home/domain/html
/home/domain_files/html
I set up the domain_files as I have the main domain with access_log and error_log. I set up webalizer to analyze every day at midnight. What I get for webalizer results is links back to Sept, even though the logfile's first enter is in January. I also see many files in the report that are from a totally different domain. I have checked carefully and in webalizer.conf I have: LogFile /home/domain_files/access_log I'm lost. I haven't a clue what's wrong. If webalizer can't do this is there another simple logfile analyzer that can give me video usage?

Are there any tools out there to scan, say our fileserver(20TB), to check for things that shouldn't be there like mp3s, videos, software crackers, etc?

do you know any free (or commercial) software for analysing the MIT Kerberos logs, mainly authentication - who has logged in and when, who has logged out and when. It would be good to have some statistical data about logins (average number of logins per day and similar).

For one of my class projects, we have to analyze a usb keyboard driver source code and be able to understand it and present it to the class. Me and a few other people are working together by breaking up the code into sections so each person can analyze a section of code.Now I've ran into a section of this code that I am a little confused about. It seems fairly simple but I just wanted to double check since I wasn't able to find a solid answer.
Code:
static const unsigned char usb_kbd_keycode[256] = {
0, 0, 0, 0, 30, 48, 46, 32, 18, 33, 34, 35, 23, 36, 37, 38,
[code]....

I have a Phenom II X4 955 box running 8G RAM. Now I'm planning building a Phenom II X6 box running 16G RAM. But the 4G module/stick is very expensive, not easy to find. However most mobo can take max 4 sticks. I can't find mobo board on market except server taking 8 sticks.

I'm hoping to find an existing Linux tool for measuring latency:
I'm trying to diagnose how much latency my OS and NIC card are adding to TCP latency in Linux. I looked at the following tools but all (at least at the surface level) measured bandwidth (Mbps/sec) rather than latency (nanoseconds for transmition of 1 packet of size x).
If I were to write a custom test, it would likely do the following:
Client:
Create a fake message of the specified length with some padding for an incrementing identifier. Open a TCP connection (with the right parameters like TCP_NODELAY, etc) Loop and send messages containing an incrementing identifier. Store the current system time (in nanos) associated with the identifier. Listen for responses, record the current time and record the latency of that identifier asynchronously Server Listen for a connection Echo back any message received
Assuming both boxes had the same setup (configs, cards, OS, CPU, etc), are relatively close to eachother in the network, and one knows roughly the network's latency contribution, one could get a rough estimate of the OS + NIC contribution and begin testing various configurations.
One could also get a more accurate picture of the latency by using a network sniffer and snooping on the lines between the two hosts, calculating the latency between the two sides for an ID, and then subtracting that from the internally measured latency.

I am a newbie. I need a good free stock program (or non free if no free are available). For reading stock information real time and has to have bells and whistles. I dont want another widget im looking for a fully featured program but the problem with googling this is that all the hits I get are either old or link me to some marketing crap for windows. I understand that red hat runs lots of stock market stuff so fedora must have something available.

I'm a business student and we have a stock ticker in the atrium of our building that was being run off of an old 386 computer that bit the dust. Unfortunately, the individuals who wrote the program that updates the ticker (with selected stocks only, from a student run portfolio) are long gone.
Basically, I'm looking for way to display certain stock quotes updated every few minutes on a real-life ticker (green lettering, scrolling side to side) with selected stocks, including the changes in stock price (arrows as well).
I've looked into programs like SMTM, but I'm not quite finding what I need. I don't have much scripting knowledge but I figured this could be done relatively easily, perhaps with GREP?

I'm currently using the popular Ambiance and Radiance Evolution themes, but now I want to get back to the regular Ambiance theme. I have locked folders in my home folder labelled Ambiance and Radiance, which I think was left over from the install. Does anyone know how how to get my old themes back? P.S - I already removed the Ambiance Evolution PPA and reloaded Synaptic Package Manager, but it did nothing.

Looking for suggestions on what tools to use. I'm a finance major with limited programming knowledge. I would like to start collecting my own stock data. I would like to pull data from google finance or something similar. Also, I subscribe to data from AAII, American Asso. of Individual Investors, and would like to add that data into the database. and be able to have a nice gui to run queries on. My interests are finding if there are various different arbitrage opportunities and fundamental value investments.
Very low budget. Want to run it on ubuntu. I was looking at Postgre SQL as the database, but really have no idea what is optimal. Not to sure on the gui or how to pull the data. If anyone is interested in the topic and would like to help me set up and run algorithms let me know too.

Is it possible to upgrade from stock version 2.3 to current 2.32 using YAST? I can see 2.32 when using a browser to look at the repository, but when I enter the repository as a software source in YAST, it does not show up in YAST. What steps am I missing? Can I use YAST, or should I just download the RPMs and go from there by hand?

I saw that it's possible to use stock screenlet to show an exchange rate:[URL].. but I wasn't able to find out how to do that...I know that for let's say Google, you have to type GOOG (Nasdaq index) in the preferences, but there's no such index for exchange rate e.g. EUR-GBP.

I am using ubuntu 8.04 right now but I'd like to install ubuntu 10.10 or ubuntuStudio. Well I did it for trying as a dual boot just to see if it works. But I have files to back up. I tried to have them on dvds or usb but it takes time. I want to know if I can create a new partition where to stock my files and then erase the rest to install ubuntu 10.10.
When I am in gparted I see:
/dev/sda 111.79GB:
/dev/sda1 ext3 107GB
/dev/sda2 extended 4.58GB -> I cant use it
/dev/sda5 ext3 4.3GB
/dev/sdb fat32 15GB -> I think its my ubuntustudio
Is there any chance to create a new partition (40GB) to stock my files?

So I think I almost have gnucash figured out. One problem though. When I try to import my stock quotes for my portfolios, It won't get any quotes for my OTC BB Stocks. Under the security editor, there is no option for OTC as an exchange. For example: CNEX. How would I set GnuCash up to import this quote?

So I know Linux has iptables, I'm rather new to linux, and I'm wondering, are the stock settings with Ubuntu/Kubuntu safe? Is there anything I need to do make them more secure? I tried adding rules myself for some things but ended up just not being able to do anything so I had to reset back to stock with iptables -F. Should I be safe running as-is?

I had some major bugs with KDE 4.3 and 4.4 and the only way that I could fix them was to install the entire KDE 4.5. This was mid-Summer. Now I would like to upgrade to Maverick the proper way and have 4.5 in a stock repo.
I managed to get most of kde back to stock by luck and uninstall/reinstalling kdebase stuff and kubuntu-desktop a couple of times. A pain in the neck trying to find important packages that are already installed from a previous PPA.
BTW my sources.list is stock right now.
Does anyone know of a way to search for installed PPA packages that are not in the stock repository?

All of them result in the same java error.:I'm running Sun Java 6 update 22 on all these OSs.The install seemed to go OK, and I get the splash screen when it starts up and I get a "loading desktop" type of message then it throws that error. I've googled for 2 days and nothing I find is dealing with this error.

I need to do some text file manipulation which I think should be done with standard commands in BASH. I'm looking at comma seperated text files (stock market data). It comes in the form of date, stock code, open, high, low, close, volume. What I need to do first is move all data with same stock code sequentially into individual files.
While doing this since the stock code will now be the file name I need to remove the stock code. Next I need to filter out overlapping data from different files with the same date. ie. where two files contain the same date on the one line only one line will be added to the combined file. I think there must be a tutorial out there for basic text manipulation like this, I just haven't found it yet.

Is there any way to implement a simple ping script in C (unix)? I'm programming simple OpenWRT scripts.
I have found some examples of ping in C:
[URL]
However, nothing happens, nothing is sent.
When I look at the code, in the portion where the socket is created, I can see that the socket is not binding to any interface:
Code:
if ((sockfd = socket(AF_INET, SOCK_RAW, IPPROTO_ICMP)) == -1)
{
perror("socket");
exit(EXIT_FAILURE);
}
setsockopt(sockfd, IPPROTO_IP, IP_HDRINCL, &optval, sizeof(int));
Instead, it uses "setsockopt" to set some options.
My guess is that it is trying to send packets over the eth0 interface instead over the wl0 (wireless) interface (which is the one I want to use to send pings).
Now, my question is: Is there any other way to send pings in C by binding to an interface?
