Ubuntu :: Karmic Upgrade Now No Signal To Display

Mar 2, 2010

I recently upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10 on an IBM Intellistation Z Pro (64-bit).Install went smoothly.Upon restart, everything works fine up until the log-in screen. The normal hardware checks all run and the new white Ubuntu symbol appears but when it switches to the log-in screen, a "No signal" message appears on the display and the green power light goes orange.

I can still log-in remotely from another machine and access all the files and drives, run jobs etc., so the machine did start-up properly, it is just an issue with the display.

Ubuntu :: Monitor Input Signal Out Of Range / Fix It?

Nov 28, 2010

I basically destroyed my laptop a couple of years ago. Windows XP wouldn't even start but it didn't come with an installation disk. I tried recovering it but it just died. So a few months ago I put a box of thing on top of it which broke the screen! I was going to chuck it out until I stumbled upon a page which told you you could use it as a web server.

I decided to use it to host my website. I installed ubuntu without a problem however it wasn't until I was about to start it up I found out it was against BT's terms and conditions!! So since I installed ubuntu I thought I might as well make use of it and use it to render my files. When I went to turn it on for the second time and plugged it into the monitor it said input signal out of range!

I can see the login screen but I can't move the mouse or anything. I can't access the terminal, how can fix this?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: 11.04 - Signal Out Of Range On Boot Up

Jul 17, 2011

I installed edubuntu 11.04 a couple months ago on the kids computer. Everytime we would boot up, we received the signal out of range during the entire boot sequence. However once the login screen showed up, we could see the desktop fine. However, now it will not display anything from the time grub loads it is just Signal out of range. I even let it sit for about 10 minutes. I can boot from the live cd fine...but I'm not sure what to change. How can I fix this issue from the live cd?

It seems to be loading fine and then all of a sudden the monitor quits with a sign Input signal out of range. I have tried lots of other live disks and they have worked fine. My monitor is a Hanns G and my video card is NVIDIA GeForce8200. All other stuff very normal. 4 Gigs of RAM. What?

Fedora :: F12 -- Input Signal Out Of Range?

Mar 29, 2010

I recently installed Fedora 12 -- a brand new install, not an upgrade. The system was previously using Fedora 11 without any problems. Fedora 12 installed without any issues, and I haven't really done any customization to it. I am running KDE. The system is hooked up a KVM switch.

When I am on system #2 (a Windows system) and I switch back to system #1 (Fedora) after a few minutes of time, the Fedora screen will be blank and the monitor will present an "input signal out of range" error. I can SSH into the box and kill X to get the screen back. This has not happened on this system with any previous versions of Fedora that had been running on it (everything since Fedora 7).

Ubuntu :: Stop (when Loading) Looking For Wifi Signal's In The 5000000 Khz Range?

Apr 30, 2010

Does anyone know how to stop ubuntu (when loading) looking for wifi signal's in the 5000000 khz range? I have a problem with other devices around my house that operate on this range of frequencies and it effects ubuntu while its booting, to the extent that it wont load. My wireless router is on the 2000000 khz range therefore I only really need Ubuntu to look for devices on this range of frequencies. If anyone know a way to prevent Ubuntu looking on the 5000000 khz range by editing something I would be very greatful to know how to do this.

As at the moment I am having to boot about 5 times until it eventually decided to load. Sometimes the only way I can get in, is by going into recovery mode, dropping to terminal and typing in: "sudo gdm" and eventually I get it. Which is a right pain. Please see my previous post outlining my problem: [URL]

Ubuntu :: Black Screen After Booting - Input Signal Out Of Range

Aug 27, 2010

i installed a program called start-up manager. i fiddled with the display settings cause on startup of the computer my boot screens and etc were out of wack placed halfway across the screen and really pixelated. after changing the resoloution i restarted and just after booting everything goes black and it comes up with the input signal is out of range. ive tried to run livecd or live usb i should say as its on a usb stick. and search for commands to repair my screen settings but cant. ive tried to run grub cause i heard its a repair console by pressing and holding shift it doesnt work ive tried to ctrl alt f2 and other commands during start up non of them work. they all just result in that message popping up.

there is no repair console for me to access during start up. i just want to roll back to before i did this when everything was working. also half the commands given on other threads come up with error messages saying commands were wrong and such. and ive also started up bios to try and change display settings for it to magically work so i can login and change my settings back and nothing happens. im using another computer at the moment to find results.

I just installed Ubuntu Natty on my desktop which uses an nVidia GeForce 7+ chipset. After installing Ubuntu, I noticed that when the GRUB boot menu should show up, my monitor says "Input signal out of range, change settings to 1600 x 900 - 60Hz", and it stays that way until the Ubuntu desktop shows up. This message won't go away until I select an OS to boot. Using BURG-Manager I set the Resolution to 1440 x 900 but I still get the message.

Apr 30, 2011

I have just spent hours upgrading 10.10 to 11.04 Natty and when I rebooted at the end, all I'm getting is a small box on screen saying OUT OF RANGE.

I do not have grub or windows or anything else to boot into, ubuntu was my main system, what can I do?

I have just tried another monitor and get the same thing.

Is there anyway I can boot in safe mode or something?

I am able to boot PC with a live CD (Karmic) but cant acess most of my files because I am not the owner apparently? Cant change permissions either?

Is there a way I can change something using the live CD so that Natty will boot properly?

Software :: Gnuplot - Combining A Linear Range And Log-scale Range In The Same X-axis?

Apr 24, 2011

I want to plot a set of data in only one plot. The problem is that some points of the data should be better plotted in a linear scale (lets say 0 to 100,000) but there are other data points that, exceding the value 100,000, would be better plotted in a logarithmic scale, as they goes in the range 100,000 to 500,000,000. Let's say the data is:

Code:

X Y
0 100
10000 80
20000 75

[code]....

Is there a way to plot all these points in the same plot in only one X-axis showing two different ranges in that axis: linear: 0-100,000 logarithmic: 100,000 - 1,000,000,000?The axis would be read, for example, as:

Code:
|-----|-----|-----|-----|-----|-----|-----|-----|-----|
0 20k 40k 60k 80k 100k 1M 10M 100M 1G

According to ps kded4 is dead (zombie). kdm.log also indicates a problem with ibus. I installed the "ibus" pkg, but didn't resolve it. Attached is an excerpt of my kdm.log, I can't really find useful information in syslog/dmesg/messages. The system is up-to-date and I've tried starting with a clean user account as well as removing the .kde directory.

Programming :: Bash Script To Ping A Range Or Own IP-range?

Apr 11, 2011

I want to build a bash script, which can ping a range IP adresses which will be filled in by the admin. If there is no IP-adress filled in, then the script must ping the subnet where the system is logged on. So if my ip is 192.168.1.6, then the script must ping from 192.168.1.1 till 192.168.1.255 Or else, if there is given a beginning and ending ip it must ping that!

The first part of the bash script is to ping a given range (see below). But there is one problem, how can I tell the script to ping from $begin till $end, [..] is of course wrong! But what must be filled in there???

echo "Enter beginning IP-adres:"
read begin
echo "Enter ending IP-adres:"
read end
ping -c 1 $begin [..] $end

The second part is to find my own ip and ping the whole range.. How to do that? I only can find my own IP, but I cant ping the whole range,, how to do that?

#!/bin/bash
ifconfig | grep 'inet addr:' | grep -v '127.0.0.1' |
cut -d: -f2 | awk '{ print $1 }'

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Sound After Upgrade To Karmic?

Jan 5, 2010

After i upgraded to karmic i experienced that the sound of spotify was at times strange. When i started a new song there was some strange plucking sounds, can most be understood as the sound a old LP-player makes when there is dust on the record. Not much but more than enough that I can hear it and wish it wasn't there. After some time of playing the songs sometimes was totally distorted by "disturbance" and it became impossible to even hear that there was a song there. Like when you are out of reception of a radio channel.

I did some research and upgraded to the wine1.2 with "custom" pulsaudio drivers. Then the total distortion was gone, but the, always present, plocking sound still was there. I have tested adjusting PCM volume, have some volume on mono, upgrading to newer pulsaudio drivers. The same problem is when ever my dear computer i producing sound. Spotify, firefox, rythmbox and mplayer. I can't see any answers after spending some time on google. I hoped i could fix this without deleting and removing pulsaudio.

Ubuntu Installation :: No Sound After Upgrade To 9.10 Karmic

Jan 8, 2010

The sound is an onboard Realtek AC97 chip on my motherboard. It worked absolutely fine on my 9.04 Jaunty setup. My machine is dual boot with Windows XP and the sound is fine on XP, so it's not a hardware issue. Karmic seems to think there is no audio device present at all, which is obviously not the case. This is an AMD 64-bit machine running the x64 edition, although I doubt that has anything to with the problem. Everthing else in the installation went perfectly and the GNOME desktop seems significantly quicker too.

Ubuntu Installation :: Can't Upgrade From 9.04 Jaunty To 9.10 Karmic

Mar 12, 2010

i used the Update Manager to upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10.. then it said:

NO VALID MIRROR FOUND

While scanning your repository information no mirror entry for the upgrade was found. This can happen if you run a internal mirror or if the mirror information is out of date.

Do you want to rewrite your 'sources.list' file anyway? If you choose 'Yes' here it will update all 'jaunty' to 'karmic' entries. If you select 'No' the upgrade will cancel.

I choose yes, then is said that there's something wrong with the network I'm connected to..then it closes..the upgrade failed.
