Ubuntu :: Severe Lag For All 3-d Video Games - Video Driver ?

I am running gnome 3 on ubuntu 11.04, a clean installation from the gNatty version, 32 bit. The machine is a Lenovo t420, with 6GB RAM and a integrated video card.
Everything is running smoothly but not for games. I tried urban terror, Tremulous, Nexuiz, all of the lags from the very beginning as if I was using a machine 5 years ago to run today's video games (ie, takes 10 seconds for a mouse move a show, audio lags, .etc). From my experience it should come from video card driver not installed, but the update manager shows all device works fine (indeed, the screen resolution is 1600X900).
I installed Debian recently, and everything seems to be working fine, except some video games are unusually slow compared to what they would normally be. Tremulous, for example, worked reasonably fine on this computer with Windows XP, but now (Debian) for some reason it's laggy even on the title screen. Something wrong with my video drivers?
All of the information I know: The computer is a Dell Dimension 3000 RAM: 256mb? Gnome System Monitor says 247.1mb, SWAP: about 730mb Processor: Intel Celeron 2.40GHz HD: 25gb out of a 40gb HD free, and an external 1tb HD with about 920gb free Debian Release 6.0 (squeeze) Kernel Linux 2.6.32-5-686 GNOME 2.30.2 (I've tried LXDE also, no noticeable change) Only linux on the machine.
I'm having some problems with my video drivers I think. Before I get into detail here's some info about my laptop: It's a Laptop, yes. Graphics Card = ATI Mobility Radeon X2300 Model: ASUS F3KE (the 1 without the Camera, just a mic) Ubuntu Version: 9.10
I believe the problem is with my Video Driver. I can Set Visual effects on high without any trouble, but when running games (Even Java Games) that I can run flawlessly when running under Vista are almost impossible to run on Ubuntu, extremely low FPS and well it's just pointless to even try!
Examples of games are: Guild Wars running (Well not really *running*) with wine. Saga with wine Wurm Online (Java) Alien Arena And even Glest!
Running Ubuntu 8.04LTS at present. (hyperthreaded 3.06 with 2gb ram) Have Logitech 9000 web cam .. brand new out of the box. It installed and works both in Cheese and in Skype. (outstanding image!)
But, there is a severe lag in the image (audio does NOT lag .. so makes using any on line VERY hard to do!) Is there some way to get this thing to work properly, or am I going to have to wait on 10.04 to see if that works? (hate to use the old saw of "it works in Windows", but it DOES on my Windows machine .. just that I want it to work on the Linux box as that is my primary box and used for almost all on line activities.)
If I take out the existing video card and put in another one of a different type (but not a different brand), how does Ubuntu behave? I know what Windows typically does. Windows starts up the screen using a default video driver which is at least 1024 by 768 and then asks you what this new bit of hardware is and asks where the drivers are. I'm pretty sure Ubuntu has default drivers of its own, but I don't know what their resolution is.
I am currently running ubuntu on my laptop and i love it. Im running windows 7 ultimate 64bit on my gaming pc and im sick of getting stupid windows errors when im playing my video games. I just want to know if I can run a windows xp emulator in ubuntu on my gaming pc with no problems with saved games or anything like that. Just if you want to know im mainly having issues playing Fallout new vegas.
What is causing this graphic distortion?I dropped Vista because this problem would crash the video driver and pop a black screen for a few seconds over and over and over and over.Now that I installed ****ING Ubuntu it's doing this problem, but without the black screens and only messed up graphics show.So what the heck guys, is this a hardware or software problem? And this same type of graphic distortion appears in games like Combat Arms and Halo.I am so SICK of NVIDIA never ever in my whole entire life will I ever buy NVIDIA again! Luckily for nvidia I'm only 17 years old and have 40 years of life left to buy computers without nvidia in them. Until I save up dough for a new computer "without nvidia" I'll keep trying to fix this. P.S this nvidia chip is tied down to my motherboard.
When I don't install the packages for my ATI graphic cards (xserver-xorg-video-radeon, xserver-xorg-video-ati and radeontool), everything looks fine while my laptop boots and my desktop looks fine when the boot ends. Except that i can't look video or play games cuz it lags too much...which is normal. When I install the packages for my graphic card (xserver-xorg-video-radeon, xserver-xorg-video-ati et radeontool), I can play games, watch videos, but I notice this: when my laptop boot, just before the login screen, I get messy graphic problems...Looks like a broken old tv. Once I login, my background image is covered with white stripes...
I just installed Linux Mint 9 as a dual boot install with Win XP. Trying to activate wireless network card driver and video driver. Pops up: "You are not authorized to perform this action".How do I get authorized?
Now every time I boot Win XP, the Internet Explorer menu bar is all blacked out and goofy. If I log out and back in it corrects itself. If I reboot it's blacked out again. Re-installed IE8. Still blacks out.Also Firefox in Win XP crashes expectantly. It has NEVER crashed on me previously.
I upgraded yesterday to 10.10 doing a fresh install and I noticed something strange, the ATI driver Ubuntu 10.10 gives me is 8.78 while 10.04 gave me 10.7. Anyone else notice that 10.10 is providing older drivers than what 10.04 provided?
I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 and have moved to Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala. I want to get CompizFusion running just to make my laptop even more cool, but since im new (fairly) to ubuntu, i want to know if someone else has done it, because i dont want to go and mess it all up. Has someone done it?
I recently installed Ubuntu 8.10 on my pc. I am running a Matrox Millenium G400 Dual-head video card. I am trying to install the driver, so I went to the matrox website and downloaded the latest driver for linux. The only problem is, I have no idea how to install it . I am new to linux so the readme file did not help much, as I am unfamiliar with terminal.
I have an older Dell Latitude (with an atitude). I noticed that scrolling down web pages and such has been painfully slow. I didn't have that problem with Windows installed and so it just goes to reason that the video driver is not right. I selected "display driver update" (or something like that) from one of the menus. It saw that I needed an update to the nVidia driver. I authenticated the request and it downloaded and supposedly installed the update. Now I have no video. I get the splash screen and the start-up scripts but then after it loads, it goes black.
I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer with Linux because I've primarily been an operator with it for years. I never had any admin privileges until I finally decided to install it on my home systems. That being said, what do I need to do to get this to work?
I want to watch a certain video on [url]...., but I get an error message instead. Some videos can be played, so I'm thinking it's a form of restriction, but I can't be sure.I tried using a few proxies, but on some the error message persists and on others the video doesn't load. I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 and Firefox 3.5.8.
I wanted to see the current video stream of oil leak in the gulf but when I go to the page the video is black. When I click on the video it give the error message Quote:
An Error Occurred: Could not write to resource. I am not sure what that means or how to fix it.
I have two seperated video clips, that captured same event from two cameras. i would like to create one clip, that will show one on the left side, the second on the right side, and play together.
When I play large HD videos in mplayer, the video and sound frequently get out of sync, and the video plays a little strangely (occasionally speeding up and occasionally slowing down).
I think it's because mplayer is only running on a single core. As I've got a quad-core processor, it seems inefficient. I've seen that there is theoretically a way to get mplayer to work with multicore setups, but it requires compiling with different options. That'd take me a little while to work through.
Ideally there would be a pre-compiled version in the software centre, or a player which has support built in (again, ideally in the software centre). Is there such a thing available?
I recently bought a video card for my pc. I had it running pretty nicely on Ubuntu10.10, I started windows and later restarted and after that it wouldn't get past the Graphic cards bios. this is rather odd isn't it? I suspect it maybe dead or that my motherboard bios is stuffed but i reset that too and it still wont go.. The specs are Pentium4 Proccesor 1gb ram motherboard 661gx-m7 Nvidia GeForce FX5200 DDr128mb
I have a video file in which the audio runs faster than the video, so they quickly go out of sync. The way to fix it would be to separate the audio and video streams, speed up the video (the audio is FINE, it's the video that's wrong), and then recombining them. What is the easiest way for doing that?
Got a bit of a problem where xorg can't start kdm. I pulled out a dying AGP card to try and switch to onboard video, and I think the previous configuration is gumming up the works.I've been running this system for quite a while, as you'll be able to tell from the version numbers.Would like to avoid having to transport my Amarok databases to a new server. I make heavy use of the song ratings and whenever I try to transport the database from the old system to a fresh build I have to spend hours relearning sql commands.Any ideas how to either fix the resolutions on the ATI or (preferably) get KDE to start on the onboard graphics?
video playback is like I have applied a blueish sepia filter over it. And this is just the playback from totem player or mplayer, and not the playback from ..... (and generally online streaming) - this works just fine. this messy video playback also appears when I use cheese to capture video with my webcam. Note that the preview picture of the video file on nautilus has the natural colours it should have.

this happens with both VLC and Totem, when in either of those programs playing a video, if I click on one of the top menus, say View in Totem, the video stays on top of the drop down options. In order to see the options I have to hover over them with the mouse at which point they become momentarily visible. I read a post somewhere where someone had a similar problem and it was solved by reinstalling Compiz, but I've tried uninstalling it entirely, reinstalling it, etc. and none of it works. It doesn't happen with flash videos in firefox, it does happen with visualisations in Totem, and it only started happening since I upgraded to 11.04.
the movie i downloaded plays for only 19 sec and stops saying you will be redirected to microsoft download page. the file is 700 Mb. i installed w32 codecs after searching through many threads but still my vlc doesnt play the file.
I'm using 9.10 on acer aspire one (not the netbook remix).im using the default messanger client empathy.everything else works fine but when i try to video chat the video chat begins but if the other person even moves a litte or even nods his head then the video becomes so choppy that u cant see anything and then after 5 min comes back to normal for a second or two.i have all the latest updates and gstreamer0.10-ugly-multiverse which is required for video chat b/w empathy and gtalk.
My system: Pentium 4 3.6 GHz, 3 Gb DDR ram, GeForce 210 video card, Ubuntu 10.04.
I have previously used Cinelerra-cv (on Karmic) and recently Openshot (on Lucid) with not much trouble. I have been sampling other video editors (Kdenlive, avidemux, kino etc). Now I have my video card crashing whichever I use, mainly when trying to load clips. I have disabled Compiz, uninstalled all video editors and then reinstalled one at a time. I still get early video crashes whichever I try.
I am setting up a MythTV environment to switch from Windows based MediaPortal (with a high number of disturbing bugs). Yet, I have three difficulties, which I want to discuss with you. They are:
- No audio via HDMI see [URL] - Video resolution seems to change during video playback - Channels cannot be found via DVB-S [URL]
As you can see, I have created three posts to keep discussions focused.
Alltogether I have the following setup:
- AMD 5050e CPU - 8 GByte RAM - Biostar TA890GXE - Samsung LE40M86BD, connected via HDMI (and only HDMI) - Mythbuntu 10.10 with proprietary drivers installed - Technisat Skystar HD2 DVB-S card (two times)
Now, here is the problem:
Whenever I playback any video material using e.g. VLC, the screen resolution changes. This also applies when playback the video in a window and not fullscreen. The problem is that whenever the screen resolution changes, short time later the TV set blanks screen and show the TV set specific information "unsupported video mode".
How can I enforce to stay in the configured video mode?
I have geforce fx 5200 and i downloaded the 32 bit and 62 bit for the video card driver update and i dont know how to use them and they and they come in scripts !
