I am looking for a version of vmware that manages 2 severs at the same time and that mirrors them such that if one goes down we can still work on the second and of course it also works as a backup. Also, must work on a ubuntu server I have looked but there are so many version that I don't know which one is the best.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just Install Ubuntu for the first time and am having problems setting my hdtv's native resolution of 1280x768. I have tried editing the xorg.conf file with no success. Video card is an Nvidia 8600GT. Also I have a dual boot with Fedora 12 and it runs at 1280X768 with the same xorg.conf file edits i have been tring in Ubuntu. Here is my current xorg.conf file:
Code:
Section "Monitor"

so, I've been all over this website and the web trying to solve this issue. I upgraded to lucid and switched monitors. my new monitor is an acer x183h. i'm trying to set it up in xrandr before i mess with any permanent files. i've done the following
pyramid@Pyramid:~$ cvt 1366 768
# 1368x768 59.88 Hz (CVT) hsync: 47.79 kHz; pclk: 85.25 MHz
Modeline "1368x768_60.00" 85.25 1368 1440 1576 1784 768 771 781 798 -hsync +vsync

this is a custom built computer with an asus server motherboard. i'm using the computer as a server with a GUI. everything about it is awesome except for this resolution busines.
I cannot get my desired resolution and refresh rate in Ubuntu (10.04, Lucid). I want to run at the best my poor monitor can, which in Windows (XP through 7) is 1152*864 with a refresh rate of 72Hz.
I want these setting in Ubuntu, and many grey hairs have been produced in trying to make it happen. I can get the correct resolution, but not the refresh rate.
I'm using the proprietary Nvidia drivers, which are up to date.
System info:
I have a CRT Monitor connected to a laptop via the VGA connector. The monitor is a 16" AOC brand (this is all I know, and for all my efforts I cannot find the manual for it from just this information). The graphics card is a GeForce 9600M GS
Things I've tried:
Using the regular default drivers Editing Xorg.conf in all manner of ways (seems to always be ignored upon reboot. I don't get that). 3 days of googling Asking at the Ubuntu forums.
How can I do this, if I can?
how all of this works, how xorg.conf and the Nvidia program interact and such.
I've been trying for very long now to adjust my screen resolution to my desired setting. So far, no luck. Just today I went in to examine what my xorg.conf looked like and this is what I saw.
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Default Screen"
DefaultDepth 24
Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True"

New to ubuntu, as of about 3 days ago. Using ubuntu 9.10 on a Dell Dimension 3100. I installed ubuntu as a program on windows 7. I am only given the option for 800X600 and wanting to switch to 1024X768. My graph card is MESA DRI Intel 915G GEM 20090712 2009Q2 RC3/x86/MMX/SSE2 v1.4 Mesa 7.6. Other info: The X.ORG Foundation v1.6.4. How can I get the desired screen resolution?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to install a program called libdvdcss0.0.1, it was a tar,gz2 file and I already extracted it via terminal to /opt/ but now that its extracted, I read the install readme file and tried going by those directions. Not working here is my results on that:

I don't know if its something I am doing wrong or what but everytime I try and install a file this way or by the programs readme file it always goes wrong in someway shape or form. The only way I have installed a program successfully is through kpackagekit and I am desperately trying to learn terminal's language here, the only thing standing in my way from switching from windows to linux entirely is these damn problems.
I need to find notes on how to achieve higher screen resolution via Xorg.conf and some other fixes since I just installed the NVIDIA driver... seems out of the box, my resolution is horrid, though theres an added NVIDIA Server and my dual monitors aren't configured to work. I used this tutorial to get the driver installed.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently have bought a digital reflex. After a few shootings and so on it's now come the time to use my Ubuntu at best to work with my camera. Can you recommend to me some software (if it's an all in 1 product the better)
What I'm really interested in is handling RAW format (.cp2 if I'm correct?), tagging renaming and organizing my pictures (both with and without filters and so on applied on them). Also it would be great if it would allow me to bulk export images at the desired size and quality. (I've tried digiKam but it doesn't import pictures from my camera)
HeI'm currently having a problem with a Debian 6 server. The server has a subdomain given from the hosting company. On the machine we'll be hosting a domain with a different name from the hosting's. The domain is pointing to the server's IP address but if you try to ping it will not return any replies. If you ping the machine's subdomain it returns ping. At first I though it's a firewall blocking the ICMP but that's not the case. I've installed apache and tried to open the domain from a browser - the result:
1. The subdomain and the IP address works perfect
2. The desired domain doesn't open.
I'm coming from Slackware and most probably I'm missing something. It may be something really little that I'm missing. What may be the problem? Is it coming from debian or there's a firewall blocking the domain?
I try to boot Fedora 10 without initrd. System boots normally if I make in some nodes in /dev such as /dev/console. Almost everything works fine, but when I try ping with record route option -R I get this error
Quote:
ping: record route: No message of desired type
If I boot with initrd ping -R works without this error. Iptables not running.
Also this error appear when I try to boot from LiveCD F11-Alpha-i686-Live-KDE.iso or other Fedora 10 LiveCDs.
For some reason my gnome-terminal is starting in / when it should be ~ I have checked /etc/profile, ~/.bashrc and /etc/passwd and everything seems fine as far as i can tell Konsole and xterm are starting up with the working dir to my home dir (as set by /etc/passwd) But im at a loss to see where gnome-terminal is starting in / if i enter cd with no argumants in gnome-terminal it is switching to ~ fine, so i dont think its mistaking my home dir for /

Is there a way to tell Ubuntu to use this version - I don't what to go to 10.04LTS as that has php5.3 I think. View 8 Replies View RelatedI've spent all day trying to work this out. We have a ticketing system (request tracker), which polls a POP3 mailbox for new inbound ticket emails. We've upgraded both our mailserver to exchange 2007 and are trialling RT on a new ESXi host. While this arrangement has worked perfectly for 2 years on exchange 2003, 2007 gives you the option of using TLS.
Unfortunately, the version of fetchmail in the repositories for 10.04 (fetchmail 6.3.9) just does not want to work with exchange 2007, no matter what i specify in /etc/fetchmailrc, however by playing around with the production RT server, I've found that upgrading fetchmail to 6.3.17 (which is the latest version) just makes everything work again.
However, I've pretty much broken the fetchmail install on my production box - I now seem to have both 6.3.9 & 6.3.17 installed on there, and if I use /etc/init.d/fetchmail to restart it, it'll restart 6.3.9 which then generates errors about certificates and never collects any mail, however if I manually start fetchmail then it starts 6.3.17 (which is the version that i want the init script to start for me).
So, 2 questions. How do I fix my garbled install of fetchmail on my production box, and how do I upgrade my ESXi instance to fetchmail 6.3.17 without breaking anything? I'm happy with doing the ./configure and make install to get 6.3.17 on the box, but it then extracts it to my home directory - what do I do then to update the 6.3.9 fetchmail files that are currently in existance?
I'm just about to commence a full reinstall of my home media server. Planning on using 1x 1tb and 7x 1.5TB drives in raid 6. I notice the version of mdadm distributed in Ubuntu is 2.6.7.1, but versions exist up to 2.6.9 (excluding all the 3.X ones) Is it worth using a later version? Or is 2.6.7.1 used for a particular reason?

Is it possible to install some administrative tools under the System -> Administration tab of the Desktop edition of Ubuntu, so that xinetd, chkconfig, netservices, etc can be controlled? I am left with an uneasy feeling about my Desktop version, and finding that it is running services that I really do not want to allow. Apache2 is running for example, but I really am not a web server (yet). Another service is strigi, the indexer. I prefer to have it turned off at times. What administrative tools does Ubuntu offer that can be placed in the sys-admin tab?
