Ubuntu Servers :: Everyting Is Working Except No Map Is Displayed?
Jan 15, 2010
I have set up a mapserver, everyting is working except no map is displayed, it looks like a problem with the tmp folder where the images should be writing to. I have searched for a solution and it seems that the user group needs to be www-data, however on my system apache is set as root not www-data and www-data does not exist as a group. Can I simply create this group? if so how? Then I assume I just do the following:
I installed ubu server 9.10 on my desktop, then I tried to install webmin and I was able to do that too. When I try to connect to webmin I get "page cannot be displayed" so I thought let's change the port...I changed to port 443 as recommended on the website.
Here is the miniserv.conf: port=443 addtype_cgi=internal/cgi realm=Webmin Server logfile=/var/webmin/miniserv.log errorlog=/var/webmin/miniserv.error pidfile=/var/webmin/miniserv.pid logtime=168 ..... Now I tried connecting using the ip address and the hostname. I also tried with http and https https://hostname.com:10000 and 443 ... no go.
I have installed ubuntu server 10.04 on a virtualhost. I have installed webmin fine. When I try to access the webpage from my web browser the webpage cant be displayed. I have attached the output of ifconfig.
i'm not able to play music at all. videos videos seem to crash my browser and using either rhythmbox or banshee they crash too.i ran rhythmbox by typing sudo rhythmbox and tried to play a file and it displayed a pop-up window saying that my autioaudiosink element is missing and the terminal displayed this:
code: (rhythmbox:8415): rhythmbox-warning **: unable to grab media player keys: could not get owner of name 'org.gnome.settingsdaemon': no such name warning: unhandled message: interface=org.freedesktop.dbus.introspectable, path=/, member=introspect
Instead of XAMPP or LAMP, I installed a local web server to my Ubuntu 10.04. Apache and phpmyadmin works well.
I copied the files of my Joomla website to /var/www folder. When I go to administrator panel, it works. But when I type in the browser "http://localhost/[folder_name], a blank page appears and nothing else.
I've been trying to figure this out... What command does the system use to display this at login:
Quote:
System information as of Fri Oct 1 08:35:54 CDT 2010
System load: 0.28 Usage of /: 10.8% of 17.89GB Memory usage: 51% Swap usage: 3% Processes: 112 Users logged in: 1 IP address for eth0: <ip.address>
It's not uname, free, top, df, uptime, etc... Also doesn't appear to be anything in /proc that I've found. Anyone know what it is? I want to grab its output as part of a script. I could use other commands I suppose, but this system info output is neat and concise.
Initially when I upgraded to Lucid I uninstalled openJDK and switched back to sun-java5 packages due to some application support limitations. Now I have to upgrade to sun-java6- packages. I removed the sun-java5 packages and installed the sun-java6 packages. Including the sun-java6-plugin.
I can see the plugin in aboutlugins in Firefox 3.6.10 however nothing (like webex or applets) related to java works. As a workaround I have used the Icedtea plugin which comes with open JDK and that seems to work. However I want to get the sun-java6-plugin working.
I recently installed Apache on Lucid Lynx (Macbook 1.1) using the following tutorial: [URL] Everything appears to work correct except that when I browse http://localhost/ in Firefox, I cannot see any of the directories. Although, files such as html documents are visible. When I view the /var/www directory using the default graphical file browser, all of its child directories have Xs over their icons. When I attempt to open the directory "js", the following error message displays:The folder contents could not be displayed. You do not have the permissions necessary to view the contents of "js".
I figured this was preventing Firefox from viewing the directories. So I launched it with the "gksu" command to see if it would help. I still couldn't see directories when browsing http://localhost/ I'm basically trying to achieve functionality identical to the MAMP local server for Mac OS X. I'm about to start a LAMP project for a new client so having this up and running is important!
I have pear installed, but I'n not sure I have it configured properly.
When I do a phpinfo(), no where are the settings for pear (meaning where it's located). If I recalled there is supposed to be a setting displayed there for PEAR.
I'm trying to add .desktop file for my application but I'm stuck with very strange problem.I created 48x48 icon for my program called etmmanager.png.I created .desktop file according to specifications:
Code: [Desktop Entry] X-SuSE-translate=true Categories=Application;Utility;X-SuSE-TimeUtility; Comment=ETM Manager for time logging Exec=etmmanager code....
My problem is that icon is not working in menu! I can find my program in Utilities->Time->ETM Manager and this is what I wanted, but there is no icon for the program.
It starts working if I specify absolute path in etmmanager.desktop file like Code: Icon=/usr/share/pixmaps/etmmanager.png About my system - Opensuse 11.1 KDE 4.2
Previously I have had Linux installed on my laptop (OpenSUSE, Ubuntu) with no problems as far as wireless networking in concerned. Due to wanting to play a certain game (which I have since grown tired of), I reinstalled Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. Recently I have booted up to live DVDs of PC-BSD, Ubuntu, Kubuntu, and OpenSUSE 11.2 and I cannot get wireless networking working.
At home I use WPA2 Personal. I put in the passphrase into NetworkManager (the same as I do for Windows), and the computer gets an IP address from the router (I use 10.3.5.x at home). The problem is, I cannot connect to the Internets. If I do "ping -c 3 cnet.com" it gives me the proper response of 216.239.113.101, but if I try to go to cnet.com, I get a page cannot be displayed in Firefox.
I get this error for every website. I don't understand it seeing that I can ping the websites, but even if I put the IP address in the URL, it still doesn't load the page. What am I doing wrong? Everything is dynamic, as in Win7. But everything works perfectly in Windows, but no such luck in Linux. I know it must be something simple, but I'm at a loss. Seeing that I no longer play Star Trek Online, I'd like to put Linux or BSD back on my laptop, but no Internet is not an option.
The following are the output of command "ifconfig -a":
[Code]....
The interface "eth0", which is down, was not displayed, but loopback interface has been displayed. So, how can I make my application display all interfaces, including the interfaces which are down, but excluding the loopback interface?
I like the server login information that gets displayed when you login to a 10.04 server. It lists disk usage, CPU usage, Temperature etc...
Unfortunately I had problems installing 10.04 from a USB. At the end of the process the master boot record was stored on the USB and not the hard disk.
But now when I login to my server I don't get the server information.
I just installed the lamp stack and so far my default site is working. But a 2nd site I made is not working.I created the config file in /etc/apache2/sites-availableit reads:Quote:
I have very interesting problem after ~10 PHP Fatal error, php 5(latest one) in apache2(latest one) in Ubuntu Server 10.10(with latest updates) just do not work. So if try any php page it's not working(user see white page), but HTML still work fine. What that can be? So only restart apache is help to back php. (we are running Wordpress blog 3.1)
I had a problem with apache2 and getting .htaccess working. I have done some things and i believe its working the ErrorDocument command is anyway. I believe there may be some problems with the rewrites though.Im trying to take a urlhttp://localhost/showthread/123and make it display whats on http://localhost/index.php?showthread=123The rewrite rule is Quote:
Options +FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine on RewriteRule ^showthread/([^/.]+)/?$ index.php?showthread=$1 [L]
I upgraded Samba to 3.5.2 to enable Windows 7 to log in to the PDC. ACL was working with the Samba 3.0.28a that came with 8.04LTS. After upgrade I can now log in to the domain with Win 7 but ACL permissions are not working on Win7, XP or anything. They still show on the server but any attempt to change permissions on the workstation fails with "Access is Denied" and only user/group/other permissions are doing anything. Anyone know what changes for the ACL were made between the two versions? I know they're working on switching to VFS modules but setting "vfs objects = acl_xattr"
This may not be a big deal at all, but I notice that when I enter TOP into my terminal I can see that I have "2 users". How can I fix it to show 1 user? I did a search before posting and I did not find anything around the forum.
I made a clean install of 10.10 on an oldish desktop someone gave me. But after the first update, I can not login to the desktop environment.e login screen shows no user accounts, but other than that appears normal (purple background, ubuntu logo in white box mid-screen, and the options to shutdown, etc on the bottom bar). The mouse works, however the pc will not shut down nor restart from the on-screen commands.
I've tried untinstalling and reinstalling the package for ampache.
I still cannot get localhost/ampache to display in my browser. I can't even get localhost to display in my browser. I've tried checking around in config files to see if i have ports open for listening. (i'm a noob at all of this)
My router has the port open that i specified. on code - service apache2 start i get:
(..Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address 192.168.1.65:8000 no listening sockets available, shutting down
I can't find any other config files. I don't know what else to do with the amapche installation. (which included an install of mysql-server package, even tho i NEVER got a prompt to enter in root passwd for the mysql db.)
Can someone explain why my directory history is being displayed after each use of the 'cd' command. After about an hour the list is filling up my window.
Firefox is having trouble displaying characters. At times, a web page will display only partial of a certain character, and it will affect every character on the screen. In other words, sometimes when I load a page, the bottom half of all the 'i's or 'r's are missing. The problem persists when I refresh the page, and resolves on its own. It will happen to most web pages. Also, at times, a white or black stripe will run through some characters, usually a heading title on the page. I'm running Firefox 3.6.10 on Ubuntu 10.10. I did a complete reinstall of Ubuntu 10.10 when it came out (i.e. I reformatted and installed 10.10) and have been having this problem since then. Never had the problem with 10.04, which I had been running since May. Firefox and Ubuntu are both updated currently.
Please note the attachments, where in one there is a problem with the letter 'i', and in the other, on the Heading "Search New Posts" there are white lines running through the words.
I am having trouble with virtual hosts. The system is not recognizing their existence. In the process of trying to determine the problem (when I do a command of "ls -l" for the sites enabled folder) I noticed that the new symbolic links for the two sites in question show the directories and files linked to in green. The one link that does work (the default link set up with the system install) is in white.
Is there any significance attached to the colors? I would think they should be the same as the working one.
I just installed Ubuntu 10.10 but while completing installation at the point when we remove installation CD from drive and go to press enter to restart the system, I saw this error:[2993.693601] end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 537844 like this line there were so many line displayed the I pressed enter the PC got restarted and now Ubuntu running as nothing happened. But I couldn't understand what was that error and how much serious it was.
I've just upgraded to ubuntu 11.04. After I login with unity, I can only see my background and desktop items. There is some space on the left side and on the top on my desktop. I clicked on those space and I found that there is some button on it. It means that the panel and launcher are completely transparent. I entered "/usr/lib/nux/unity_support_test -p" in terminal. It told me that my computer meet the requirement to run unity. Also, my computer work fine without unity(classic ubuntu session). I really don't know what's wrong.
I created a custom launcher for 2 wine programs on my desktop and dragged them to my launcher to add them. They were both using the default cup of wine icon. The first one kept this icon, the second one changed to the default custom launcher icon for gnome. I have since changed them to the games real icons but they aren't changing in the launcher even after removing and re-adding it to the launcher. So 2 things are happening here, it seems the launcher is unable to use the same icon multiple times, and the launcher is "remembering" the icon's somewhere separatly from what the custom launcher is saying the icon should be.
How can i set conky to be only visible on the desktop?
not on the browser windows and the file windows?
My script is:
Code: # UBUNTU-CONKY # A comprehensive conky script, configured for use on # Ubuntu / Debian Gnome, without the need for any external scripts. # # Based on conky-jc and the default .conkyrc
I just finished setting up my home ubuntu home server. Installed LAMP and it works beautifully. The problem is everytime I upload a file through FTP into the server, the file changes permission even though I did chmod -R 755 www. Si everytime I upload a file to my server i need to run the command chmod -R 755 /var/www
