Ubuntu Servers :: Different Is Customer Are Rent Space For Download Bittorrent?
May 26, 2010
I've a plan to make Bittorrent Colocation. It like web hosting, the different is customer are rent space for download bittorrent. Because internet bandwidth in my country is very slow. So it have multi-user on this server What bittorrent client I use?
I'm trying to config a customer's samba server to use a MS 2003 SBS for auth. The samba is for file sharing only config'ed with disk quota's. Currently the samba is config'ed for auth = Users. But I want a central point for user auth, and since they already have the sbs in place, I'd like to use that.
I finally decided to give Ubuntu Karmic another chance after Jaunty->Karmic upgrades killed two laptops and a desktop. Fresh installs work better. Anyway, Along my usual post-install trawl through the available packages, a number of them stood out that I never really paid attention to before, and they've piqued my interests.
The three packages are: apt-p2p apt-transport-debtorrent debtorrent
If I understand them correctly, it's an alternate means to download packages through bittorrent instead of http transfers. What I want to know is, does it work? What sort of differences could be expected between bittorrent and http transfers when it's used?
Transmission bittorrent client on my computer doesn't seem to download any files...It just struks on 'downloading file'...When i checked out the preferences it says 'port closed', i'm using port no 18768....Torrents download fine with opera with the same port no...
this is not specifically a slackware related question, but since done on 2 slackware boxes... the situation is, i have one box for browsing and other desktop activities and another box acting as router/local server. what i want to achieve is that the router box would look on a nfs mounted folder for new *.torrent files (which i put there from the desktop box) and if there is a new file, it would start downloading it automatically. also a good thing would be if it would notify me when finished.so how would you go about itwhat torrent client would you use and so on? maybe someone has already done something like this?
I still feel as though I should be posting in Beginer Talk but was told that general help could work as well.I am currently using ubuntu jaunty jackalope and completely unfamiliar.I am unable to download updates due to their not being enough free disk space. The sudo apt-get clean and autoclean commands do not free up any space? I have tried tinkering with ubuntu tweak and add remove programs as well but nothing coming.
I'm booting Puppy 5.0.1 from a CD. I want to install OpenOffice so I can view PowerPoint files. My hard drive is 40 gig with 23 gig of free space. While downloading OpenOffice the download stops and gives an error message about "Not enough Linux drive space to complete download"The hard drive is formatted as VFAT and without a CD in the drive will boot Windoze 2000.How do I give Linux (Puppy) more space to use on this hard drive?
I'm trying to execute the command: Uum Update Or other yum installation of samething After a while I obtain always messages saying: Insufficient space in download directory So I understood is a problem with space. I went to my shell and digited the command: df -h but it show there is plenty of space.
I also deleted a lot of space to make room, just to be sure, but nothing different happens. I'm attaching a screenshot to this post.
I am looking for customer relationship management, I have had a look at "Sugarcrm" but cannot seem to figure out how to install it.I run a small business on my own which often means i get flooded with customers from time to time and i need a CRM system that is simple to use and doesnt have to be fancy..What I am asking is there a package out there for ubuntu other then Sugarcrm?Btw the software will be installed on a stand alone computer.

I have a system that has very limited disk space on /var and everytime I attempt to do any updates to the system via update manager it was always error saying that there is not enough disk space. I wanted to know how I can change the download directory of the update manager to a partition with more space?
I have just downloaded Slack- 13.37 using Filezilla..I downloaded from an FTP server the entire directory of Slackware - Current (32 Bits) ..There were some problems encountered:1. When I selected the entire folder in FZ , the Queue size was reported as 4 GB.2. I started downloading and after significant time , still the Queue size was reported as around 3.8 GB..I was perplexed as I have a decent bandwidth and it cannot be. To dispel my doubt , I saw the properties of the Slackware directory in which it was downloading. It showed 1.9 GB.. Is the Q size not dynamic? (Total size - Downloaded size)
3. I was on the edge of my seat as my HDD had only roughly about 4 GB ...So , the Q size was kinda misleading..In a haste , I thought I would remove 2 big installations and wiped off Openoffice as anyway I was planning to go in for libre...I moved some other files to a different partition to ensure additional space4. At the end , early in the morning I woke up and saw it had finished ..But there was a failed transfer of 1 hidden file ..There is still 450 MB left in my partition, dont know why it got omitted.5. Now I want to check the integrity of the download bfor burning to a DVD..Should I use md5 sum? I am not able to determine slackware size by googling...In fact I should have gone in for a pre compiled ISO instead of this directory! But it wasnt available yesterday..6. Is there any good download manager like DAP/ Orbit / Leechget which also gives options like turning off comp after download (useful for overnight installs)...The DW helper in Mozilla is not that good ...I want a utility to split the download into 4/5 channels and speed up the download and most importantly show a graphical menu clearly showing Speed, Size, Time left , etc similar to windows DM
is there any opensource software or website that gives us facility to handle our Customers Support Request. That is every user has its username and password and he can make login with that on it. and write its problem and click on submit button. IT Support automatically get email of it that this user is getting this problem.. Also management can see the current status of the problem
I need to create a shell script called 'custinfo' to prompt a customer to enter and display back the following: name, age, address, phone number, and product.
Some good open source software for these requirements:
1. Support center customers can submit issues(or tickets) to our support staff and support staff can process these issues on the web or via email.
2. Knowledge base Multi languages support are required, and admin also can apply the access privilege to each account/group.
3. Document or File download (FTP?) customers can download the software hotfix , patch, Presentation file or even upload their log files. Admin can control the access privilege easily.
Is there any single open source software can meet these requirement at the same time?
I have been assigned with a job to survey the customers who use Open Source Linux and Unix distributions.Though Red Hat and Ubuntu are the most popular distros, but if someone who have ever got involved in tracking what % of the Linux Distribution being used by the customers.
We make network appliances for process control. The owners and operators are not supposed to open them. But they can.
For unrelated reasons, we put our homegrown software onto a USB that is inserted into the appliance. To keep prying eyes off it, we encrypt it. The key is on the appliance internal drive, which can be removed and mounted elsewhere by enterprising IP thief, who can then find the key to the encrypted USB drive.
Any ideas for closing this vector down?
For casual snoopers, we have password protected grub.
Calling cadillackid: would be very pleased to hear about your approach to locking down devices sent to remote premises.
Can anyone recommend any open source customer support portal software? I'm looking for something where users can sign in, and submit support tickets for a wide variety of issues (game play, billing, etc). Then a Support Agent can login and assign tickets, respond, etc. I've already started looking at bugzilla, but I was hoping to find some other options to compare to.
Logical Memory Space of 4GB is divided in to 3GB User Space and 1GB Kernel Space. Always. Correct?
1. How can we change it? (just changing value of PAGE_OFFSET is okay?)
2. If system have only 256MB of memory (embedded system) and suppose Kernel Modules eat away all the memory during boot. User space will be left will no memory. Is this case possible?
I have a Ubuntu 8.10 perfect server and I made a stupid decision at install. I selected only 160 gb for /var partition and now it's 99% full. I added another mail domain and they came with alot of emails from the old server. How can I manage this? I got /home partition that's double in size and it's almos empty. Can I create a shortcut for the whole domain and move it to /home? Right now it resides in [URL]. I would like to make this move without affecting the files properties nor users passwords. Most perfect would be to remake the whole system on a single / partition. I have configured a soft raid thou using 2 hard-disks in mirror. So I prefer to get a new hard-disk, format it for a single / partition and swap and move the whole system on that. Would it be too complicated? Or make a new Perfect Ubuntu 10.04 LTS server with ispconfig 2 and move the whole domains with the users passwords and emails and websites?
My ubuntu server is a 1.5T with 448GB available. When I backup my files each night, my files only amount to 397GB. Is there an easy way to see where the extra 600 GB on my server is located? I think that I might have had a couple of old backups write to the server, but I cannot find them.
I screwed up with my Ubuntu Server Grub2 on 9.10. I want to know since I just did a reinstall on top of the old one. Can I eliminate one of them (doesn't matter) and return it to Ubuntu and 7. Now grub shows the new install, win 7 and the old ubuntu's that I had before and they all 3 work. so how can I restore grub in the old ones to a default setting and then eliminate the new one? or just eliminate the old ones? Or should I do what I think is prob what I will have to do and completely reinstall Windows and then put Ubuntu back on?
We're trying to install Ubuntu Server 11.04 on Hyper-V so we can run FOG and image computers that way.
When it comes to partition/format the drive, Ubuntu is only detecting 136.9GB of disk space, even though I allocated 500GB for it to be able to use. I made the disk static, not dynamically expanding.
The Hyper-V host is running Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter.
I was going to use Virtualbox on that server since it plays nicer with Linux, but we already have Hyper-V established and you can't do both.
it is possible if i can have sub-users in my server and can i allocate a limited amount of space only. For example i am the root of server and now i can add another user with name john and he should be able to use only of 2GB out of my total hard-disk.
I recently installed Ubuntu Server 10.04.2 and configured it to be used as a network storage device. I installed it on an 80GB HDD initially. Everything was fine -- I could read and write to the drive and I could set permissions from my Windows XP machine.I decided I wanted a bigger HDD. It had taken a few hours of configuration to get it to work the first time, so I didn't want to go through that again. I instead created a clone with Clonezilla and then slapped the image onto a 1.5TB drive. I then used gparted to resize the partitions.
Everything seems fine from the server side of things (I'm fairly new to it, so I could be missing something, but it all looks good). The server correctly sees that I am using 2-3GB of the 1.5TB drive. It sees the rest of the space as free and part of the primary partition. Here comes the problem -- Windows isn't reading the drive space correctly. It sees that 80GB of the space is taken (the size of the original HDD) instead of 2-3GB. I'm not sure if it will actually let me write to the space or not. But whether the reading is simply cosmetic or if Windows really thinks it's taken, I would like to fix it either way.
