How data can be ported to linux ( converting big endian to little endian).

currently I've got a big problem on programming with sockets. I use the winsock2 API and want to receive data from a multicast adress running on a UNIX-PC. The connection works fine and I really receive data from this group, but as it seems not the right packages. The received data is saved in a char[]. E.g. at received_msg[12] is a float value. This one I would like to read out, convert and use it in later progress the next value is y at received_msg[16]. The same Code works on a Unix PC with unix sockets but converted to winsock I've got the described problem and I have to make this code work under windows.
Here a piece of the code (received_msg[12]='3f'):
Buffer is a struct containing the two float values x and y. If I convert the char as this under windows the value of x is a huge number. The correct value is around 192, so receveid_message[12] should be 1.92. Could it be that the Unix-PC is sending data in an other way than the winsock receive it?

Some good open source software for these requirements:
1. Support center
customers can submit issues(or tickets) to our support staff and support staff can process these issues on the web or via email.
2. Knowledge base
Multi languages support are required, and admin also can apply the access privilege to each account/group.
3. Document or File download (FTP?)
customers can download the software hotfix , patch, Presentation file or even upload their log files. Admin can control the access privilege easily.
Is there any single open source software can meet these requirement at the same time?

We make network appliances for process control. The owners and operators are not supposed to open them. But they can.
For unrelated reasons, we put our homegrown software onto a USB that is inserted into the appliance. To keep prying eyes off it, we encrypt it. The key is on the appliance internal drive, which can be removed and mounted elsewhere by enterprising IP thief, who can then find the key to the encrypted USB drive.
Any ideas for closing this vector down?
For casual snoopers, we have password protected grub.
Calling cadillackid: would be very pleased to hear about your approach to locking down devices sent to remote premises.

Can anyone recommend any open source customer support portal software? I'm looking for something where users can sign in, and submit support tickets for a wide variety of issues (game play, billing, etc). Then a Support Agent can login and assign tickets, respond, etc. I've already started looking at bugzilla, but I was hoping to find some other options to compare to.

I'm trying to config a customer's samba server to use a MS 2003 SBS for auth. The samba is for file sharing only config'ed with disk quota's. Currently the samba is config'ed for auth = Users. But I want a central point for user auth, and since they already have the sbs in place, I'd like to use that.

I want to code some simple personal projects on the Unix-like partition while doing everything else on my XP partition. Can someone recommend the solution that takes up the smallest footprint in size and processing power that still delivers value? I want to learn how to code in a Unix environment.
I'm trying Cygwin but my first impression is its a bit clumsy. Would a dual boot with BeOS be better? And how would I do it? EDIT: I need to be able to run both OS'es at the same time. This is very important for me. my laptop is pretty crappy and that's why I ask for something that has a low CPU/RAM footprint.

I have Solaris at my workplace. Currently Esm was configured. It's listing conflicting configurations against policy standards. Few of them are like usrid's/guid's of users are below 100 so I am planning to change it above 100. For eg. I have ops id for an operations team.If I change uid and group id of this particular user/group, do I have to just find files of that particular users/groups ownership and change it accordingly.Or else something elese I have to do. Will it affect any running applications owned by user/group whose ID I am going to change. Also there are few ids owned by applications whose secondary gid is 0, how do I proceed with those, as its very risky to change in prod environment.
