After in-place upgrade from 9.10 to 10.04, the message
Code:
Unmount of /dev/nbd0 failed
appears on the console at shutdown, with a warning that data may be lost, and followed by a 10 second countdown, after which shutdown continues normally.
Syslog shows this one line at each boot:
Code:
Oct 23 10:04:16 m2a74am kernel: [ 1.203334] nbd: registered device at major 43
Nothing gets mounted explicitly at /dev/nbd0, so I am puzzled about the error message on shutdown.
I am attempting to install 10.10 from the iso because I have no working cdrom. I uncompressed the .iso to a ext3 partitions and put the correct entries in the menu.lst file. It starts ok. The problem occurs when I attempt to install to the hard drive. At a point I get the error,
Failed to unmount partitions The installer needs to commit changes to the partition tables, but cannot do so because partitions on the following mount points could not be unmounted./cdrom I have a choice of continue or go back. If I continue the install hangs. If I go back I cannot continue. How do I fix this problem?
When I try to install Kubuntu 10.04 from the live CD (ran the installer from the Live Desktop) I get this error:
I then get sent back to the partitioner after clicking continue. Nothing but the installer/live desktop is using the cdrom. How do I install it? I have also tried running the installer without the live desktop, and it still throws the same error at me.
We have a server running Hardy. I configured it as an NFS client and mounted a share. The NFS server is remote and accessed through TCP only (no UDP allowed through the firewall). Now I've mounted it, though, I can't unmount it!
Code: david@scatha $ mount | grep nfs example.com:/home/david on /mnt/tmp type nfs (rw,tcp,addr=123.123.123.123) Now when I try to unmount it:
I have a problem while rebooting my 9.10 server when I have SAN partition mounted. The message is something about the swap that can not be cleaned during the process. All works if I unmount the partitions before shutting down or rebooting. So I though to create a bash script that unmounts the parts during runlevel 0 and 6.I've created a simple script like this in /etc/init.d:
I am running slackware-current and using the Novatel usb760 3G modem. before i use kppp to "dial out" I have to eject the device. It works fine except that i periodically get a popup window with:
"Failed to eject "VZAccess Manager Device to unmount is not in /media/.hal-mtab so it is not mounted by HAL."
it happens every 30 minutes to every 10 seconds. anyone ever experience something like this?

I am trying to update my server, but it won't do it. It tries to connect, but says "Waiting for headers". If i try to install other packages it says "Connection failed". Apparently it has Internet connection since my server shares Internet connection with other machines.
I am using Ubuntu Server 10.10 64bit. While executing apt-get update i am getting error Connection failed. I have checked other post also some where i found to change the country name 'us' to other present in repository url inside /etc/apt/sources.list file. I have created a folder in my /var/www/ as /var/www/borneo and when I try to install a smf forum I get this error: 550 Failed to change directory. I have installed vsftpd for the ftp.
My macbook is backed up using timemachine on a samba drive. I used this hack for months [URL]his tuto is based on Netatalk, but works perfectly with Samba (or used to), as described in many others blogs.A couple of days ago, I had a strange message from timemachine, like the backup should be reconstructed to improve the security. The sparsebundle has been deleted, and timemachine try to create a new one now. This step failsI tried to create manually a new sparsebundle, using the tuto. It does not work.I have a backup of the sparsebundle ... I can navigate into it ("enter timemachine"), but I cannot backup anymore.
I have a new install of Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS server. But I get errormessages trying to start samba.
caesar@klem:/etc/samba$ restart smbd restart: Unable to connect to system bus: Failed to connect to socket /var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket: No such file or directory
I have tride to remove an install samba. And deleted smb.conf. And startet with the original.
smb.conf: workgroup = Easyways server string = %h server (Samba, Ubuntu) log file = /var/log/samba/log.%m max log size = 1000
As the title says, I have a failed RAID5 hard drive. What's the easiest way I can go by replacing it? I've seen many ways to do this, but I would like to know what other people are saying about this, and see how you would do it.
I recently set up exim so that I could test emails sent from my php sites. I have now been getting daily emails that either report errors from cron jobs or report a failure to send emails to root@cory-laptop or cory@cory-laptop about cron errors.I first of all don't want mail sent to the above addresses, because they are obviously not actual email addresses. Second, I'd really prefer not to get emails when an email failed to send to these addresses.
I've followed [URL] to set up vpns with some external networks. So far it worked like a charm on two of them. But when trying to connect to the third one I instantly get bumped off.
When running Code: pon dymka debug dump logfd 2 nodetach
I get this as part of my output Code: CHAP authentication succeeded sent [CCP ConfReq id=0x1 <mppe +H -M +S -L -D -C>] rcvd [IPCP ConfReq id=0x26 <addr 192.168.0.2> <compress VJ 0f 00>] sent [IPCP TermAck id=0x26] rcvd [CCP ConfReq id=0x3e <mppe -H -M +S -L -D -C>] Refusing MPPE stateful mode offered by peer MPPE required but peer negotiation failed sent [LCP TermReq id=0x2 "MPPE required but peer negotiation failed"] sent [CCP ConfRej id=0x3e <mppe -H -M +S -L -D -C>] rcvd [CCP ConfNak id=0x1 <mppe -H -M +S -L -D -C>] Discarded non-LCP packet when LCP not open rcvd [LCP TermAck id=0x66] Connection terminated. I've looked all over the internet but sollutions like adding mmpe-stateful to options.pptp doesn't work. Is this a problem with the client or with the server? Because the server is configured just like the other two and they work as intended. Seemed to be a problem on the firewall.
I recently ran into the following problem when trying to ssh into my Ubuntu 11.04 server:
>> ssh user@site.com PTY allocation request failed on channel 0
I don't know for sure, but I think this happened after one of the latest Ubuntu updates I installed. In case it's of relevance, I'm remoting in from Terminal (Mac OS X 10.7 - Lion). Edit: The problem seems to be with Lion..
I've just noticed a small problem I am having with my company file server. When making backups to an external NTFS drive weekly I have noticed that the file names with thai characters are not getting backed up. I receive the below error:
rsync: recv_generator: failed to stat (to the file name...) Invalid or incomplete multibyte or wide character (84)
There are thousands of files on the server that contain thai characters in there names so how do I get around this problem so it will back up all files and not just the English character ones. I read somewhere that each file would need to be converted to a different character set but this would take years as there are so many files.
My hard drives kept dropping out of the raid array, so I finally identified the problem as a bad sata cable. I redid the wires and now when I try to assemble I get this:
Code:
mdadm -v --assemble --scan /dev/md0 mdadm: looking for devices for /dev/md0 mdadm: no recogniseable superblock on /dev/sde4
System: ubuntu server edition 10.10 Hardisk: a 160g usb external hard disk, formatted in win7 with NTFS format. %fdisk -l returns: Device Boot .... System /dev/sdg1 NPFS/NTFS %sudo mount -t ntfs-3g /dev/sdg1 /media/external
I was installing Ubuntu Server 10.04 last night, and the select software to install step failed. I tried to start over from scratch, but then the partitioner wouldn't load. Has anyone else seen this before?
I have tomcat 5.x installed and is running on port 80(with mod_jk setup). The directories 'manager', 'examples' and 'ROOT' were removed under /usr/share/tomcat/webapps/ and rebuilt them copying from a working tomcat server. When I acces [URL] (or) [URL], it keeps on prompting for the password even after enter correct username and password.
My raid array has failed. I have two disks /dev/sda and /dev/sdb./dev/sdb has failed and I could not rebuild the array(madm returned that the device is busy) so I rebooted the machine. After that, the whole sdb disk went missing, as it now only shows sda in fdisk -l.Did the disk went totally dead or my raid glitched?
My server is running Ubuntu. I have no problem adding a windows XP to the domain. I however have a problem with windows 7 laptop. I keep getting the following error "The user could not be added because the following error has occurred: The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed".
I have an ec2 instance, with ubuntu server edition 10.10, and I am trying to install lamp. When I run sudo tasksel --section server, select lamp, and select ok, I get: tasksel:aptitude failed (100).
I'm trying to setup a new Ubuntu Server via terminal to host a variety of websites. I need quite a bit of space, so our Windows System admin set me up with an iSCSI connection to a drive array, however I'm a little unsure how to translate that and get the is open-iscsi service connecting to it.The settings he sent me include:
DNS Domain Name two IP Addresses for it A Name for the service: pd2_video An IQN:
He enabled CHAP with a username and password.Where do I need to look to see documentation on how to connect to this service?I have tried following: [URL] However I get:
iscsiadm: connection to discovery address x.x.x.x failed
I am having a recurrent problem with my nfs server. That server hosts our homes which are exported over the network this way:
Code: # more /etc/exports /home/export*(rw,no_root_squash) and our clients mount their homes this way (in /etc/fstab): Code: myserver:/home/export /home nfs defaults, auto 0 0 Regularly the clients are getting stalled, no connection with the nfs server. When I check the logs on the server I see these lines: [Code]....
