I am running a server with Ubuntu 10.04 and mysql v.5.4.41-3ubuntu12.1.I am unable to connect to my mysql server remotely, (error 111). I have added the port 3306 to iptables. It is able to connect to the loopback address (127.0.0.1) but not through its external address.

Instead on installing it in a Windows box like I have for years, I'm thinking of putting it on a Ubuntu Server box (or virtual machine) instead. Should I do it on a Ubuntu Server or a Ubunto desktop box? I have never installed Ubuntu as a server, is it more or less the same as installing the desktop version? Lastly, is there multiple versions of Ubuntu where one might be more appropriate than another? All I want is a machine that I can access MySql via an IP address. Don't need DHCP, dns, Mail server or anything.
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo the problem is that phpMyAdmin does not want to connect to host name (at remote server) but connects to that same server fine if it's ip address is used. Command line "mysql -h hostname ..." works fine and connects to host name. Mysqladmin also works.

I've disabled SElinux and temporarily disabled Iptables but no luck.
Somehow I feel MySQL is not doing DNS lookup when used by Apache/PHP. So it just understands ip addresses.
I found that on MySQL startup you can disable DNS lookup. [URL]
Not sure if it's disabled and how to enable it at startup. Could not find anything at "System" -> "Administration" -> "Services".

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am running Ubuntu Server 10.04 on an old desktop PC. But after some uptime (not sure exactly how long) it simply loses connectivity. Odddly, I can get on to the Server (Plug a monitor and keyboard in) and connect out (ie use lynx to go online or ping various websites) but I can't connect in from anywhere. I can't connect on the same LAN and I can't connect to it from the WAN IP address.
I have http, squid http proxy, webmin, and ssh running. I can connect to none of them when this happens. I am using ufw (I don't need the versatility of iptables... too complicated for my needs). ummm I can't think of anything else extremely pertinent....

I went about installing it thinking that it would all work. But it seems that I was wrong. So I try to start mysql, and here's what I get:

View 8 Replies View RelatedAfter the upgrade from 8.10 to 9.04, all was well. But after the upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10, I lost the MySQL server. Now, I recall during the upgrade, I was asked if I wanted to keep the existing my.cnf file or replace it with a newer one. I did as suggested and kept the original as I had edited it before. The same question was asked with a couple other config files. I kept the original in each case. After the first step, I checked the server was running and the websites were up, all was well. After the update to 9.10, when I checked the server, I get the following error:

When trying to downgrade mysql-server I saw that there are dependency problems between the various modules (but can't recall which). But whichever route I truied the results are always the same.
Thought about trying XAMPP but I note that even has it's problems, is there any way I can get a lamp set up on FC14, or must I give it up as a bad job.

But then I wanted to synchronize the database with the MySQL database on my laptop, so I had to allow connections from the LAN interface. So I addedCode:bind-address =192.168.0.100to /etc/mysql/my.cnf. This worked and the synchronization was performed. I want to do this on a regular basis so I would like to keep that line in there.The problem now is that MySQL does not start on system boot. When I start up, mysql simply is not started. There are no errors in /var/log/mysql/mysql.err or /var/log/mysql.err; these files remain empty.When I try to start it using 'sudo start mysql' I get the same result. The 'start mysql' shows up in 'ps aux', but the mysql process itself does not.Now, I found out that when I run

I am trying to get mysql to start at boot without any success.
The mysqld scripts works fine when run from the command line, but it does not work when i use the links created by chkconfig. I checked the boot.log and found that mysql starts but then it stops or gets shutdown. This is the log message:

Is it possible to run two servers through one ip address? And I don't mean through apache to run virtual servers. Right now my set up is: Cable modem>router>server.
