Is it possible to run two servers through one ip address? And I don't mean through apache to run virtual servers. Right now my set up is: Cable modem>router>server.

How do I figure out what the servers IP address is? I have ubuntu server 9.10 and I looked at the etc/host, etc/hostname files and they have the correct server hostname
So here is my problem. I have websiteA.com and websiteB.com. I only have one public IP address. And websiteB needs to be constantly restarted, so both need to be on separate apache servers or instances.Virtual directories wont work cause I can only point websiteA to a directory /var/www/websiteA.Reverse proxy wont work cause I can only catch a sub directory.Proxy /websiteA/ URL...Does anyone know how I could get this to work in anyway.

I am trying add three namebased virtual hosts in local apache2 webserver OS ubuntu 10.10. The three sites are :www.site1.eka,www.site2.eka,www.site2.eka
The first I created a file is virtual.conf in conf.d directory its content is :

Next I created following files in sites-available directory. [URL] is as follows:

When I visit the [URL] in browser it says server not found.
I know Ubuntu can do amazing things, but I was wondering if it can use different Internet connections for different websites.
The Setup: We have 1x unshaped ADSL connection at 4MBPS (fastest available) that's used for office related things, Skype, General browsing etc. We have another ADSL connection, this time shaped and running at 4MBPS, I want to send all requests to facebook, twitter and downloading sites like fileserve, filesonic, hotfile etc. to the shaped connection. Can iptables be used to do this? The unshaped ADSL router is connected to eth0 and has an IP of 192.168.0.1 the shaped ADSL router is connected to eth2 and has an IP of 10.0.2.1 Local lan is connected to eth1 and has a range of 192.168.1.0/24 Can iptables send a certain webpage (*.facebook.*) to eth2 and other pages (*.google.*) to eth0 ?

I am moving some websites from a shared host to a newly configured Xen based VPS with Ubuntu 10.04. A steep learning curve but I am getting there! I have a couple of sites installed on the new server and want to test them out, from what I understand I should be able to edit /etc/hosts on my desktop computer (running Ubuntu 10.04) which should automatically redirect my browser to the new server. But it doesn't seem to work.
This is what I appended to the /etc/hosts file:
12.34.56.78 www.xxxx.com
I thought that this should send any requests for www.xxxx.com to 12.34.56.78? Some googling indicated that the browsers I am using may be using DNS caching, ignoring the hosts file. I've tried clearing the cache with Chromium 7.0.517.44 (64615) and Firefox 3.6.12, and even installed a plugin in Firefox to block DNS caching.
I have an issue viewing my hosted webpages via wired connection on the same network as the server. I can view them via wireless without a problem but wired times out.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have this intra net server project going on and now I moved to 10.04 however there are still some things that I would like to see clarification and instructions on. I am interested to set up multiple parallel websites for my apache server, however I am not sure how to do this exactly. Now I have solid address rivera.wippies.net and port 80 redirecting to my server. What I would like to get done is that I get multiple independent of each other websites for my server I was thinking of making websites like this
/var/www/site1 (which would be as rivera.wippies.net)
/var/www/site2 (which would be as rivera.wippies.net/othersite)
/var/www/site3 (which would be rivera.wippies.net/secondothersite)
etc, so that I have multiple "individual" websties for my server. Requirements would be that each of these websites could have SSL encryption as needed available too, since some of the website could have confidential information.
I currently am running 10.04.1 and have successfully setup my home web server to run a single website. My current settings are:
-I have registered the domain name annarrankings.com through godaddy
-A record is - host = @ and points to = 71.114.220.3
-CName is - host = www and points to = @
-on my server I have the site running in /var/www
I've done some research and found that to run multiple websites I need to setup VirtualHost.
-So I created a folder /var/www/annarrankings.com and moved my site to that folder
-Edited Apache2.conf to add the following line
-I then went to /etc/apache2/sites-enabled and copied the default file to a new file called annarrankings.com. Here's the annarrankings.com file after I edited it
-I then created a link in /etc/apache2/sites-enabled to the annarrankings.com file in /etc/apache2/sites-available
-Next I editied /etc/hosts
-When i went to enable the site using a2ensite annarrankings.com I got the following
I figured this was ok since I had already created a symbolic link earlier (a result of trying to following multiple tutorials and ..... videos at once) so I reloaded apache2. I created an index.html file in /var/www/ just for testing purposes and when I load www.annarrankings.com I get the file located in /var/www/ instead of the website located in /var/www/annarrankings.com Do I need to change my A record or CName in godaddy or did I just do this completely wrong?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am using Ubuntu Server 10.04 64bit. I am getting an Apache2 start up error after I setup my certificates and configure Apache2 for HTTPS. At the point on start up where I need to type in my certificate pass code I get a lockup due to the Apache2 process being in a hung state. I reboot if needed and switch to console tty2. When I type in the command.

To correct the problem I do this.

From the output of the command above I look for the apache2 process and make note of its process ID. Then, I kill that process ID. For example, the command below has an apache2 process ID of 1131.

The apache2 server starts up and asks for my certificate password, accepts it when I type it in, and runs perfectly fine afterward.
Fortunately this instance of Ubuntu Server is running inside a VMWare virtual machine. I can just "pause" the virtual machine if I need to rather than going through this crude and tedious start up process too frequently.
Crude and tedious are feelings I'm having too frequently lately with Ubuntu Server.
I am running Ubuntu Server 10.04 on an old desktop PC. But after some uptime (not sure exactly how long) it simply loses connectivity. Odddly, I can get on to the Server (Plug a monitor and keyboard in) and connect out (ie use lynx to go online or ping various websites) but I can't connect in from anywhere. I can't connect on the same LAN and I can't connect to it from the WAN IP address.
I have http, squid http proxy, webmin, and ssh running. I can connect to none of them when this happens. I am using ufw (I don't need the versatility of iptables... too complicated for my needs). ummm I can't think of anything else extremely pertinent....

I have wordpress installed and setup under /var/www/
The LAN IP address resolves perfectly to the index.php
However I can not get my WAN IP to resolve. My ISP blocks port 80, so I have my router setup to forward port 81 externally to port 80 of my server. I know the port forwarding is setup correctly and working, because I can go to websites like url and test that port 81 is indeed open.
I also have DynDNS setup on my router and through an account with them, to update my IP address with any changes, to a host name. But because port 80 is blocked I have to access it with, host.name.org:81. Ive had this system up and running before with no issues. Now I can not get the host.name.org:81 to resolve.
Neither can I get my ip address xx.xxx.xx.xxx:81 to resolve.
I've setup a Ubuntu 9.10 LAMP server to host a word press blog on an intranet. I've got everything working except the url for the site.The IP address of the server will take me to the site URL.../But I'd rather use the server's name instead of the IP address URL...When i try to go to URL... in Firefox or IE it give me a server not found page and changes the URL to URL...I also have Webmin installed on the server and I've been playing around with the Apache module and can't figure out how to set it so i can use the server name instead of the IP address to get to the site.

Instead on installing it in a Windows box like I have for years, I'm thinking of putting it on a Ubuntu Server box (or virtual machine) instead. Should I do it on a Ubuntu Server or a Ubunto desktop box? I have never installed Ubuntu as a server, is it more or less the same as installing the desktop version? Lastly, is there multiple versions of Ubuntu where one might be more appropriate than another? All I want is a machine that I can access MySql via an IP address. Basically I am trying to set up my own server so that I can ssh into it from anywhere. I am able to SSH into my server when I use the LAN IP of my server but I am not able to SSH into it if I use the public IP address. I have read many threads and in my opinion I've tried almost all of the common fixes suggested. One possibility may be that my ISP has blocked port 22. I have taken this into consideration and sent them an email and I'm presently waiting for a reply. However, I highly doubt that my ISP has restricted acess to port 22. I would really like to be able to SSH into my server from anywhere.
1). I installed openssh client/server using the following commands:

3). I modified /etc/ssh/sshd_config such that my server has a static LAN address.

I have a server hosted with greatseeder.com, its a dedicated ubuntu server using Ubuntu 10.4.I have set up apache2 together with php5, and build a website from that. If you go though the ip address (http://94.23.251.209) the website loads fine, but if you go though the domain (athenagaming.com) it don't.I have registered the domain at domain.com. The nameservers I got from the host did not work, so I used a free dns site, to refer the domain to the ip address. The site I use is, http://freedns.afraid.org. I have signed up the domain, and added the nameservers i got from free dns to domain.com. But still it can't find the server though the domain, even though when I trace the domain it comes back all[URL]
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am using Squeeze and all appears OK at first... I have a DHCP lease, PING to router works, apache servering fine in and outside the network, Epiphany seems to connects to default debian.org only, BUT I cannot connect to any other websites and apt will not connect to any servers. I installed once, tried to fix problem, gave up and reinstalled and still have the same problem.
I unistalled Network Manager thinking that was the problem, but still the same issue. Is there a default firewall blocking certain connections or am I missing something I'm supposed to know about? I installed some non-free firmware in the beginning of install and all worked... and I connected fine when downloading packages during install.
