I have success install DNS server using BIND on Debian 6.0. and it's work with windows client. but with ubuntu I can't ping all my domain. but if I use nslookup or dig from my ubuntu client, it's work. and I try connecting my ubuntu client to internet using modem.
I have configured server ubuntu 11.04. Everything works fine, but there is a need for some clients to connect local hard drive. What should I do? How and what modules are added to the ltsp-image? How to register in the fstab on the client? Maybe I'm going the wrong way?
I am trying to print from our new Mac laptop to our ubuntu server. The ubuntu server works fine as a print server for our XP, Vista and Ubuntu clients.
I tried this procedure... [URL]
The best I can do is make the Mac print pages squished down to 1/4 size. On my ubuntu client I had to change the print resolution from "auto" to 600x600 to make it work. I don't see the same option on the Mac.

I am running Ubuntu Server Lucid 64bit on an AMD-based system and Ubuntu Server Lucid x86 on a dual P4 HP Netserver. I have a Trust PW-4120M UPS plugged into the AMD box via a serial cable.I have installed nut on both systems from the repositories (with "apt-get instal nut") and configured the AMD system as follows:

I've tried every adjustment to the config files I can think of but without success. I'm guessing this is a permissions issue but I've been unable to find any info on this after extensive searching of Google. As far as I can tell (ie. I've not installed one!) there's no firewall operating on either machine.
I would like to know if any of u can get this app to run on unbuntu..tht is the link to the file..i have wine and ie6 installed.the client opens and immediately closes so i do not know what the problem is
I have a Nis server on Suse 11 which is configured using Yast and nis clients on Suse and CentOs .All clients which is on the Suse Os is working fine. But on CentOs , users couldn't login using nis username.I have mounted home directory using nfs in fstab . I can switch to nis users homedirectory only when i am root. But nis users could'nt login on reboot.' ypcat passwd username ' is showing the output . No selinux is enabled in the client .Is there is any problem with Suse server to Centos Client in nis ??
I'm trying to set up a private irc server. I install ircd-ircu, modify the configuration file, restart the daemon, and everything works great. After the next server reboot, the server shows the daemon is running, but I can no longer connect to the server from my irc client. I've tried restarting the daemon with no luck. I can then uninstall and reinstall it with the same outcome. Everything works initially, but after rebooting, the irc client can't connect..
There are several parts of problems in my question.
1. Install openLDAP and authenticate clients
2. Simple way to authenticate Ubuntu clients (just like Windows simple domain model, but Linux)
Part 1 What I have done: I have been working on openLDAP for the past 4 weeks. There is a lot of information on LDAP and I have read a lot of it There are several guides out there for openLDAP installation on Ubuntu, and I have tried many of them, and reinstalled the server between tests.

Part 2 Simple way to authenticate Ubuntu clients (just like Windows simple domain model, but Linux)
I have tried to find something similar to Windows client login, but haven't found anything that works. I just need to be pointed to somewhere to read about the authentication model in Linux. I can work out my from there. It must be something very simple I am missing, because when I read som echapters in The Ubunutu Bible, I can't find anything on it.
I have setup Postfix as my SMTP server.I sent myself a test mail from the outside world, and I can see it in the mail spool in '/var/mail'. The question is, how can I now access that from a mail client?
I am running a ubuntu server and want to host a web application (php/mysql based) however I dont want to use usernames and passwords for authentication. I'd like to use a client certificate. The military uses similar technology using the CAC card to provide the certificate for authentication.
not sure if this would be done using the apache modules or if php would be a better place to play with this
I use command line twidge for twitter, it gives a strange error on terminal, I don't understand. I tried to update, but nothing happens. Code: abhilash@abhilash:~$ twidge lsrecent curl: (22) The requested URL returned error: 401 twidge: user error (("curl",["-A","twidge v1.0.0; Haskell; GHC","-s","-S","-L","-y","60","-Y","1","--retry","2","-f","--user","abhilashm86:","[URL]"]): exited with code 22) It was working fine from starting, is anything problem with updates/ program?
I am playing with openvpn, and I got stuck.I am using ubuntu server for openvpn server, which has 2 physical NICs, one is directly on internet and other is LAN, where few pcs are connected on.
I am looking for a client/server application that can allow me to have remote GUI access (eg: VNC) but with the ability to use sound.
I see that TeamViewer has a linux application out now but for my company, it would compromise security protocol because it reaches out to the TeamViewer servers to do any work.
Basically, we have applications that require a GUI and we need to hear sounds from them if they throw an alert (the app is a monitoring tool).
We are running a VNC server on it currently and when our monitoring machine was on Windows, TightVNC was able to get the sound...that is not the case with any Linux client so I am wondering if there is actually one that exists.
is there anyone knows how to setup and configure thin client in edubuntu 10.04?. From the beginning installation until thin client work.we have 2 set of computers. 1 computer installed edubuntu 10.04 and installed LTSP (Linux Terminal Server Project) in the OS without NIC Card. And the other computers has only NIC card.. We setup it in the bios as a "First Boot" Network Card. We connect 2 computers using "pair-to-pair connection". There and after, we restart the 2 computers. "Nothings Happened".
This is my first attempt at a server, and I running Ubuntu 10.04 server. I had to reconfigure my network, so now I am attempting to use it as a server. I have a Linksys WRT54G2 connecting various machines-- Windows XP, Ubuntu builds, and LinuxMint 10 Julia.
The long and the short of it is that the server connects to the Internet-- I can get updates and install programs via terminal. The server also connects to the router, as tested by pings. The client computers all ping back and forth nicely, and I can access the file share via FTP from the local side and externally (this is part of a larger network).
How can I get it so that my client computers can access the Internet through the router and server?
However I just built a 10.10 server, installed webmin, vmware, and the server is working perfectly. I configured my bind 9 server using the latest webmin and on the server everything resolves perfectly to both the internet and lan. I have it set to 127.0.0.1, the server ip address is 10.1.50.25. However, it will not accept dns client queries in which they cannot resolve to the lan or internet. I have the dhcp giving out the dns server 10.1.50.25. NSLOOKUPS from the client show query refused. I know there has to be some setting or config that will allow clients to query but I am not able to locate it, and I am not totally knowledgeable of named.conf and been all through the webmin module and configuration settings.
I am running Ubuntu Server 10.10. I have installed OpenVPN using this guide I have set up everything correctly as this guide says, but I am having problems with the config file. I want to securely route all traffic on the client to the server, how ever the server will not start. My config is below:
Quote:
################################################# # Sample OpenVPN 2.0 config file for # # multi-client server. # # # # This file is for the server side #
[Code]......
The servers ip is 10.0.0.65 and I want to assign the clients the ip range of 10.0.0.200 to 10.0.0.20 When I try to start the server I get the message Fail.
I am practising setting up a small network using UBUNTU as a PDC through SAMBA to service xp clients.
I have sucessfully setup DNS on the Ubuntu server using Bind9 and can nslookup from both the client and the server by FQDN and can also ping ipaddress.
I have setup a basic smb.conf file however when I try to add the xp client to the domain I get an error message saying a domain controller for the domain could not be contacted.
I have disabled the firewalls on both the server and the xp client and still get the same error message when trying to join the domain. I've checked my network settings on the client, its set to use a static IP address and the DNS server and WINS server are set as my Ubuntu Samba PDC address.
I haven't been able to see anything odd in the smb.conf file that might cause this issue. I can connect directly to the shares using the samba network account that I created by going to start run and typing in the unc path.
Not sure what the cause of this issue is, I thought it might be a DNS issue on the client. One odd thing I noticed is that when I do nslookup using just the server name and not the FQDN i get a message in dos saying that the default server cannot be found but says that the server name for the [ipadress] cannot be found. It does list the correct ip.
I'm not sure what is causing the problem of stopping my xp client from joining the Ubuntu Samba PDC. I'm using UBUNTU server 10.04.
I've had someone approach me recently about setting up an Ubuntu server for his small business. Having never done this for a paying client before, I have absolutely no idea where to begin as far as pricing goes. Here are some of the things I've been asked to put together:
Install and configure Ubuntu Server 11.04 with: - Apache (LAMP) - Samba - SSH - Subversion - Webmin
As well as configuring mdadm RAID and setting the system up for multi-user access. For an experienced Linux user like myself, I don't believe that it will take me very long to get things up and running, but again, I have no idea where to even begin as far as pricing goes. Keep in mind that this client is a small business owner of a game development company with only 5 employees. I am told that he only has a "modest" budget to work with. Additionally, it is possible that I will be hired in to this company shortly, to help with game development and to maintain this system which I am setting up. I would like to use this opportunity to make money, of course, but I also want to be reasonable with the client so that I may be hired in to his company in the coming months for a programming job.
I am back to the same issue internet connection sharing using NAT .I use the following command it work for me for an hours.
Code: sudo iptables -A FORWARD -o eth0 -i eth1 -s 192.168.0.0/24 -m conntrack --ctstate NEW -j ACCEPT sudo iptables -A FORWARD -m conntrack --ctstate ESTABLISHED,RELATED -j ACCEPT sudo iptables -A POSTROUTING -t nat -j MASQUERADE
Code: sudo iptables-save | sudo tee /etc/iptables.sav Edit /etc/rc.local and add the following lines before the "exit 0" line:
Code: iptables-restore < /etc/iptables.sav
Code: sudo sh -c "echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward"
After restarting my server NAT is not working .client system can ping to my server through the server's eth1 ip but Internet is not accessible to the client pcs.
We administer a small lab of Ubuntu 11.04 machines. Users authenticate via NIS to the fileserver, which then uses NFS to mount their /home directory.
From time to time, seemingly at random, the machines will lock up. After about 15 minutes, they will go back to normal.
Switching the machine to the console with/ Ctrl+Alt+F1 doesn't help either - credentials get entered, but there's still a 15 minute wait before any commands can be entered. Some error messages show up at this point about processes that were running timing out. However, the root user can log in immediately (which makes us think that this is only affecting NIS accounts).
Logging in with the root account, we can ping our NIS server, and it responds normally. We can restart the networking and NIS daemons but neither of these help.
We checked the NIS error log in /var/yp/ypserv.log and it is empty.
We used to be running a different version of Ubuntu on the client machines (10.04 LTS), but not on the server.
I have installed winbind, portmap, and samba/smbclient packages on the workstation linux ubuntu , which is intended to be client to samba for /etc/password attached to the server. At boot nothing changed, and the /etc/password is not attached to samba. So my passwords are stil the local of hte client, and not the server. This is my config of the client workstation:
I have an old HP T5700 thin client. I have replaced the FLASH memory with an 2.5" hard drive and have installed a minimal version of Ubuntu Lucid on it. I would like to get the audio to work - specifically the microphone. sudo aplay -l gives:
configuring my postfix server to send mail over smtps port 465. My ISP (as is the case with many ISPs), is blocking outbound SMTP, so I need to configure postfix to relay my mail out through my ISPs SMTP servers.
I was able to get it to work with gmail, which uses port 587, by using SASL: [URL] but that configuration is less than ideal as gmail drops the "reply to" address so when people receive my email, it looks like it's from gmail instead of from my server.
If I use my ISP SMTP servers as a relay the "reply to" address is not stripped, but the relay uses ssl over port 465 instead of TLS. According to the SASL readme:
Quote:
Postfix does not deliver mail via TCP port 465 (the obsolete "wrappermode" protocol). See TLS_README for a solution that uses the "stunnel" command.
I've looked at the TLS_README and can't figure out what I need to do. how to configure this?
i have an ubuntu server 4 windows client..i use putty or webmin. would like to copy some folders for example: "My houses"to be backup everynigth to the ubuntu server..can somebody give me an easy way for doing this with rsync and smb or cifs.
