Ubuntu Servers :: Changing Apache Port Gives Error

Jan 5, 2011

My ISP Blocks port 80 so I changed the port to 8081 after I do this and restart Apache and use my IP with :8081 after I get a page saying Not Found The requested URL /index.html was not found on this server. I get this same message if I use my real IP or the IP from my router. What can be causing this?

Ubuntu Servers :: Changing Site Port From 80?

Jun 2, 2011

Right now my server is being used as a Minecraft server. I have a site hosted on it, but my ISP blocks port 80, so I'm the only one who is able to view the site. I want to be able to change the port the site is on so that anyone can view it. I've looked it up and apparently that is possible; however, I haven't found out how to do it. I've changed the ports.conf file in /etc/apache2 and the default file in /etc/apache2/sites-available, but it didn't work. All that did was take my site off of 80, but it did not put it on the new port I specified. What exactly do I have to change so that when I go to mysite:port, it loads my website?

EDIT: Also, just for extra information, the two ports I tried were 8080 and 81.

Fedora Servers :: Changing Cgi-bin Folder In Apache

Jun 17, 2009

I've run into some problems trying to change the default cgi folder from /var/www/cgi-bin to /var/www/cgi-local (in order to migrate scripts from a much older server to a new one). I have edited httpd.conf to modify the following:

Code:
ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ "/var/www/cgi-local/"
#
# "/var/www/cgi-bin" should be changed to whatever your ScriptAliased
# CGI directory exists, if you have that configured.
#
<Directory "/var/www/cgi-local">
[Code]...

I have also tried several variations. I left ScriptAlias at the default "/var/www/cgi-bin" and I have tried it with AllowOverride None and without the +ExecCGI after Options. I am getting a 404 error when a form has an action directed at a cgi script that is in cgi-local.

Ubuntu Servers :: Apache Only Working With Port 80?

Jan 20, 2010

I have a virtual server setup on port 80 that works fine, however, if I change the port to, say, 8080 the browser then fails to connect.I'm using webmin to configure everything, all the other settings seem to work as I would expect.I get the error "Safari canī open the page http://192.168.0.12:8080 because Safari cant connect to the server 192.168.0.1." in safari, and i get something similar on the xubuntu machine in firefox connecting via localhost.It's almost as though theres a firewall in the way, but I think it's more likely to be some config problem.

Ubuntu Servers :: Apache Not Working On Alternate Port?

May 31, 2010

I have tried setting apache up on port 8000, because my ISP blocks port 80.

When I try to listen on just port 8000, I can never connect, internally or externally. When I try to listen on both 8000 and 80, my internal computers will drop the 8000 from the url and connect on 80, and external computers try to do the same thing, but can't get through on port 80.

I know my router is set up correctly, I have 80, 8000, and 8888 all being forwarded, I have confirmed with [URL] that 80 is blocked, but 8000 and 8888 are open. I am able to connect to gnump3d through port 8888 internally and externally, but not apache2 on port 8000.

netstat -tnap confirms that apache is running and listening on ports 80 and 8000 to all users.

Ubuntu :: 403 Error After Changing Apache Document Root

Sep 19, 2010

I've had apache installed for a couple of years with no problem but this morning I thought I would change the apache document root to my secondary disk so that my WAMP setup in my Windows partition and LAMP could share the same files. I've edited the etc/apache2/sites-available file to point it to the new location of my document root but I am getting a 403 - forbidden "You don't have permission to access / on this server." error when I try to load files through the browser. I'm not sure if this is a permissions issue or the way I've edited the sites-available config.

Here is the new sites available config:
Code:
<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerAdmin webmaster@localhost
DocumentRoot /media/Data/webroot
<Directory />

Fedora Servers :: Apache 403 Forbidden Error On Symlinks

Aug 12, 2011

the hard drive on my web server died so I replaced it and installed Fedora 15. I have been installing the OS on a small drive and then mounting other drive(s) for storage and did the same thing here. The problem is that I cannot get Apache to follow symlinks. Apache is partially working, it will serve my index.html page in the web page root directory and I made another directory called webtest and put some files in, and that worked fine. I made a symlink from the root directory to a folder on the mounted drive but when I try to access it, it gives me the old 403 Forbidden error. I also made a similar link in the webtest directory, I can view the other files in that directory but it does not show the link - also, trying to force it by typing the full path in the browser gives the same 403 error.

I have checked the permissions and SELinux types (using ls -Z) and they seem to be fine and I cannot find any .htaccess files. All the files on the mounted drive are owned by www:www but I also tried setting the user and group to www in httpd.conf and it still gave the same issue, so I changed them back to apache. I've been reading posts and sites on this for hours now and I'm still lost. I can post results of log files if they are of any use, I just wasn't sure what to post because it is somewhat working.

General :: Changing User For Apache / PHP?

Oct 25, 2010

I have to develop a php script, that acts as a man-in-the middle for a db-like-software and a webshop. This should run on a server within a DMZ, behind two firewalls, that should filter every request from other sources, than the eshop, and any other protocol than HTTPS. This server is a debian-machine, with a apache 2.2 and php 5.3. I've installed apache and php without any problems, installed openssl, generated a certificat and installed it. I tested the connection successfully. The eshop-server can connect to the server inside the DMZ without problems and receives a correct answer.

The db-like-software (called "netbasic") generates a csv-file in a fixed directory. this csv-fils has an owner called "netbasic". The file-access-rights are: -rwxr--r-- (I've some problems to interpret this. I know, r stands for read and w for write, x for both and the order is for different usergroups). My problem is now, that my php-script tries to read the file (successfull), generates output (successfull) and then deletes the file (failed -> permission denied). I figured out, that the problem is, that apache (or, I don't know, just php) don't runs as root and has therefore no write-permission. Because the server is already secured with the firewalls, we, my workmates and me, don't see a problem, to change the apache-user to root. but I don't know how this is done and don't know, what to search for.

Security :: Deny Host When Changing SSH Port 22

Oct 30, 2010

I have an Asterisk on an externally hosted vServer with Lenny. In order to further protect the SSH access I intended to change the Port number 22 to something like 55555. For this I changed the /etc/ssh/sshd_config file and restarted ssh. This caused unfortunately the following problems:

(1) The first login works but DenyHost writes now the IP in its list so that the second login with the same IP is blocked.

(2) With RESET_ON_SUCCESS = yes several logins were possible with the same IP, but later it also was blocked for some still unknown reasons.

(3) Files can be uploaded for being edited, but they can't always be saved. When they can't be saved the next login with this IP is blocked. It thus looks like the blocking can occur while being connected. When the files can't be saved it is however still possible to copy files from the computer to the vServer.

I add below the entries in the auth.log from a logout and a login. It shows further how suddenly the attempts to save files were blocked. After this session the IP used for it was blocked. I don't know where the message "Unable to open env file: /etc/default/locale" comes from. If I remember right I had these messages already before. I don't know how much that is really important.
