Ubuntu :: Screen Rotation In Lucid - Gateway M275 Tablet ?
Jul 1, 2010
Recently installed ubuntu on my gateway m275 tablet alongside windows xp tablet. Everything, including the stylus/pen without any poking around. However, I'm having trouble getting the screen orientation to rotate.
If I go to system-preferences-monitors, the only option for rotation is "normal".
Here is my xorg.conf:

I have a slight problem with setting of a stylus in my Tecra m7. It works fine when screen is in default position, but when I rotate the screen to vertical (left/CCW) touchpad and stylus input does not change so when I move it up it it goes right ^^'
xinput goes like this:
Code:
I already tried few .sh's from this forum archives but it didn't seem to work. I disabled driver for graphic card, because recommended version showed only violet screen when starting system and older version does not support rotation. I use Ubuntu 10.10 with Gnome.

I have a big LCD screen.I make it 90 degrees retated to play games .But I want to know :if I can get rotation in boot up? I'm using Fedora 12 in KDE. My screen display driver is Intel . I think can write something into /etc/X11/xorg.conf to make it,or write into KDE's init script /usr/bin/startkde ( if there is a command like"rotate 90",then I can write it here).

I have an HP Pavilion tx2000 tablet, wich is working perfectly in Ubuntu 10.04. The touch and the stylus works out of box, and i'm using the script that Favux has posted to rotate my screen and i've installed the wacomrotate daemon, wich is working too. Now, I've two questions: How to calibrate it? The stylus is ok, but the touch isn't calibrated. In Karmic, I was using wacomcpl and xsetwacom, but neither of them detect my tablet now (in 9.10, Hal was used to detect the tablet, now it's xserver-xorg-input-wacom).
[code]...
It's possible to set up the automatic screen rotation, like in Windows (the screen rotates automaticaly in tablet position)?

I just installed ubuntu 10.04.02 on to my tablet, aside from the dreaded intel video problem. Install went ok, but I'm finding now. That when I rotate the screen, the touch screen isn't adjusting to match. I'm not really ubuntu savvy.

This is how i made my Genius G-Pen F610 Tablet on Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx. Everything works but the buttons the sides of the tablet, the buttons of the pen(stylus) work as well. First I was looking at these websites, as a reference: [URL] So, let's begin our journey:
1. Add this ppa: ppa:doctormo/xorg-wizardpen (I've went to System-Administration-Software Sources-Other Software-Add and copy-pasted this at the APT line: ppa:doctormo/xorg-wizardpen )
2. Install xserver-xorg-input-wizardpen (I went to System-Administration-Synaptic Package Manager and typed wizardpen (on the QuickSearch bar) It showed me that there is a packet called xserver-xorg-input-wizardpen, I have right-clicked and check Mark for Installation, and then went to Apply button.)
3. Run cat /proc/bus/input/devices in the terminal (I openned Applications-Accessories-Terminal and there I pasted (by that I mean pressing Middle-mouse button this way you can easely paste) this code: cat /proc/bus/input/devices)Now it will show all the devices on your computer, so you need to find the event for your tablet. My F610 tablet is recognised by Ubuntu like this:

I just replaced my older monitor with a slightly newer, much nicer Dell 1905FP. I need to have it rotated, but I have no clue how to rotate it. I have seen several xorg.conf modifications that are supposed to work for some of the nvidia drivers, but nothing for the generic radeon driver. The radio buttons in SaX2 are grayed out as well. How do I set up X11 to rotate my display? Preferably without installing the other ATi driver, as I have tried before to switch to that one, and have been unsucessfull.

I m on ubuntu 10.04 and have a Trust tb 4200 tablet.. and having problems with my trust tablet runing on ubuntu.. i pluged in the tablet and to my amaze it started working right away until i pressed the pen on the tablet.. i cant seem to move the mouse curser anymore unless i touch the pen on the tablet. (wich acts as a click) so i thought that i may be missing the drivers.. i checked thes forum and there was a post to install the aptek drivers which i did (but still worked the same) and i found out thet there was no 10-aiptek.fdi (in "/etc/hal/fdi/policy/") so i created one and copied one from a post.. in [url]...3&postcount=50 but still cant move the courser without touching.. its like if it did no diference at all.. i also changed the values in the 10-aiptek.fdi with no changes.. the size of the tablet is just the size of the screen so i am using the full tablet.. and no buttons work...
I think the drivers are not workin.. in the synaptic it shows as intalled...

Upgraded to 11.04 and my graphical tablet is recognized no longer Any idea how can I set it up? Wizardpen is not working, the ppa on my repository says something about "Natty" instead of "Maverick" (As than before)
If I type lsusb on my terminal then this line appears:
Code:
Which is completely false because the Genius MousePen 5x4 Tablet is this one
And I have the Genius Easypen i405, which is this one

I have noticed they sell digital writing tablets that have the ability to show the pen strokes both on the tablet's display and on the computer's monitor at the same time, and I think they are called LCD digital tablets and they serve as both a second computer monitor AND a writing tablet combined in one, such as the Wacom Cintiq, and must be connected both by USB as well as with a VGA/DVI port, and you have the ability to open up a drawing application directly from the tablet such as Paint where you can draw or write on the tablet's display. And you can see what you are writing on the tablet's display. Then you save the results to a JPEG file, for example.
But I do not want a digtal tablet quite as elaborate as that. I am looking for something similar to the credit card terminals used in stores where you can sign your name directly on the display after swiping your credit card, and you can see what you are writing as you write. Then your signature shows up on a paper receipt later. Do they make digital tablets like that for the home user, and if they do, would they have to hook up to the VGA/DVI port on your video card? What are they called and where can I get one?
I've searched several online stores but they do not say if you can see what you are writing on the tablet's display. I already have a Wacom tablet in Linux but you can not see what you are writing on the tablet. I have to keep looking up at my computer's monitor to see what I am writing and proficiency is reduced as a result. And again, I do not want a tablet as elaborate as I described in my first paragraph. I want something simplier, such as the type used at a credit card terminal.

I want to get this pen tablet (not tablet computer) to work (for drawing in kolorpaint / krita / gimp etc)
Omnipen OP-906 (ancient mid-90's device). It came with floppy with drivers for Windows 3.11 and old Mac Plugs into ttyS0 (com1. It has "tablet mode" and "mouse mode". It is meant to always start in "tablet mode", but if I give it a small power interruption (take out the AC plug from the wall halfway and quickly plug it back in), it sometimes kicks into "mouse mode". The original driver is supposed to be able to switch the modes

I have trouble getting a gateway to the internet when setting eth0 with a fixed IP address. The gateway address (192.168.2.1 my modem/router) resets to 0.0.0.0 whenever I apply the changes. DHCP works fine but I need a fixed address for my server.

I have a dual head setup on Fedora 15 with nvidia drivers: two separate X screens (no xinerama, no twin view). Screen 1 is at right of Screen 0. My Wacom tablet is recognized by the xorg server and the whole tablet area is mapped to the whole area of Screen 0 which is exactly what i want. However when the stylus goes beyond the right edge of the screen, the tablet area gets mapped to Screen 1 and there is no way to come back to Screen 0. What i would like is to restrict the tablet to Screen 0 all the time. I used to do this in Fedora 13 by adding a file named
Code:
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-wacom.conf
in which there was a line
Code:
Option "ScreenNo" "0"
It doesn't work anymore. The option seems to be ignored by xorg since it doesn't appear anymore in
Code:
/var/log/Xorg.0.log
How can i restrict the tablet area to Screen 0?

I am a complete beginner to Linux (I understand a little bit of terminal from my OSX usage). I did a fresh install of Debian on an older Gateway laptop to try and make it usable for something. There is no other OS installed to this machine, I would like it to run Debian exclusively.
I used the UNetbootin application to install Debian from USB [URL] ..... Everything seemed to install just fine (no errors). However, upon 1st boot, I am presented with a black screen with a blinking white cursor. I cannot seem to get past this. I searched around and found this post: [URL] ... which seems identical except that their machine is a Mac. I had no luck using the REISUB reboot method. When I hold Alt+SysRq or Alt+PrtSc, it makes a lot of beeping noise. Issuing the REISUB keystrokes while holding does nothing.

I am using Fedora 14 with a Gateway tower w/HD screen connected, obviously, with an HDMI cable. It works just fine, except for when I play some stuff online. It's only some stuff, not all. So I was just gonna ask if it has anything to do with the quality of the video. If the video isn't HD, will the sound come out worse on my computer?

I'm using a Gateway LT3103u running a dual boot of Win 7 and Ubuntu 10.10 (separate partitions) and ever since I've started using Ubuntu (last October) I've had persistent graphic card problems.
My graphics card is the ATI Radeon X1270.
Right now I can't use any visual effects because of I do the screen spazzes out and becomes unusable. This isn't a big deal for me since I don't use them but I figured it's relevant to the problem.
Even with visual effects off I still have problems and at times parts of the menu will stay on the screen in a little box which covers any windows that open beneath it. The only way to get rid of it is to turn visual effects on so the screen resets then hit use previous settings.

Im running suse 11.2 on a gateway lt3103u during boot i noticed the screen goes dim. i thought nothing of it untill i tried to watch *ahem* educational video *ahem*. ive found that no matter what program i use xine vlc or anything else that video sets the screen to dim as if it were in power saving mode. this problem also occurs when i close the lid. it locks the screen into dim mode. in both cases i can use both Fn keys and the power management widget to reset it to bright, but this problem is annoying having to keep turning it back u to see.

I have also tried putting the path to the file /etc/logrotate.d/rsyslog. Restarted services and still no logrotation for the ldap.log..

I have a Linux program which can write information to stdout and stderr.
I have a shell script which redirects that output to a file in /var/log. (Via >> and 2>&1.)
Is there a way to make that log file rotate? (max size, then switch to a different file, keep only a limited number of files)
I've seen a few answers which talk about the logrotate program, which sounds good, but they also seem to be focused on programs which are generating log files internally and handle HUP signals. Is there a way to make this work with a basic output redirection script?

I have recently done a clean install of Lucid Lynx and set everything up the way I had it in Jaunty (skipped Karmic). However, I am now having problems with the Compiz Cube and Firefox 3.6.
Whenever I rotate my workspace that contains a Firefox window that is active, the animation is very jerky and slow. It is fine if Firefox is a background window. This was never a problem in Jaunty with Firefox 3.0.
Is anyone else having this problem? Does anyone know how I might be able to fix it? I have tried disabling all addons in Firefox.
My PC: Core 2 Duo E7400, Geforce 7010 (onboard), 2GB RAM
UPDATE: starting Firefox in Safe Mode seems to help a little. Not sure why though...

I am running Kubuntu 10.10 x64, using a Wacom Bamboo (CTH-460), I installed it by compiling the driver and moving the file as in every tutorial I could find in the Internet. The pen works perfectly, except by the fact I use TwinView and the tablet uses all the width, too sensitive. but this is something I plan to fix later... (pressure is OK)
the problem is the touch.. It almost works, right click, zoom and scroll support is ok, I believe there is no support to rotation but I can live without it... The problem is the cursor movement, seems to be a sensitivity issue. If I move very slow there is no problem, but if i move a little faster the cursor stops as if I had removed the finger from the sensor. When I try to scroll or zoom I have a similar problem, it moves an inch before it start to scroll as if it wasn't sensing the second finger, but right click is perfect so I don't think this is the problem.
Would this be a bug? Is there a way to calibrate the touch sensor? I remember editing the xorg.conf to make the touch fit the screen size in a HP Tx2510us, and to make two finger scroll on to touch pad but it was in 8.10 I believe, I cant find something like it for this problem. wacomcpl cant see the device, xsetwacom list returns nothing... xinput list returns this:
