I've looked at tutorials but can't find out how to save a cron job in nano text editor.
I open crontab with
Quote:
crontab -e
The cron job I want to save is
Quote:
wget --output-document=dwr_$(date +\%Y\%m\%d\%H\%M).gif http://imd.gov.in/section/dwr/img/caz_chn.gif
So now I've got this in nano text editor
Quote:
# m h dom mon dow command
wget --output-document=dwr_$(date +\%Y\%m\%d\%H\%M).gif http://imd.gov.in/section/dwr/img/caz_chn.gif
What exactly do I do now to save the cron job? File doesn't have a Save As option,;just Open Terminal, Open Tab and New Profile.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have created a file using open() and written data to it. Data appears as normal characters in the file. How to save these characters in a binary format in that file using C language? Here I mean that the characters should be actually stored as 0 and 1. Do I have to convert the whole data using some function or there is some standard way to do it in Linux?

I am trying to store the results of my code to a separate text file. But the problem is, as my results comes from a loop, my text file shows only the last result, not all of them.Like if the loop runs 5 time the text file shows the result for the 5th step. But i need to store all of them (1 to 5).Can I use awk to print the output field and store to another file and creat a new line so that the next output field goes to a new line?(just an idea, dont know).
#!/bin/basth
for (( i=1; i<=5; i++))
do
./file.exe > output.txt
done
I just switched from Windows to Linux. I've been using EditPlus for many years mainly because of it's ability to save locally, and then send the file via FTP, with easy keyboard shortcuts (ctrl-s to save, ctrl-alt-s to ftp).
I also need syntax highlighting and basic code editing features. Is there anything for Linux that can do this? I don't want to run EditPlus via Wine
I need to save locally and remotely simultaneously, or at least with a few keystrokes. I already know of plenty of ways to edit remote files.
I've found these commands in [URL]:
Quote:
find -type f -print0 | sudo xargs -0 md5sum | grep -v isolinux/boot.cat | sudo tee md5sum.txt
But I don't understand these commands, even after reading their manuals.
I wish to append a text at the start of every line and save it to another file without changing the original file.know the command
For example:
Orignal.txt
a.txt

I am trying to install Ubuntu to a computer with out an Internet connection and I need a way to get the updates on it. View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to play a .mov video on the internet, and when the video loads, I get an error that says "search for suitable plugin?.........plugin not found: -text/html decoder" and so i try to open it in movie player, it says its streaming, same thing happens. then I try to play it in vlc media player, and i get no message, it just wont play it. I installed the mediubuntu repository and performed and update and restart, and still it will not play the file. In case you want to try it yourself the address for the video is: [url]
I have all the boxes checked in the updates i.e. important, recommended, pre-released, unsupported etc. I also installed the libdvdreader repository. btw another issue im having is that although installing mediubuntu fixed my poor and choppy dvd playback issue in movieplayer, now it plays, but is very "shaky" basically it looks like they had very unsteady hand while filming. I play it in VLC media player and have zero issues, the picture quality is perfect.
I am wondering if any in the Ubuntu community owns a Carmen Car Radio player by Livio Radio. The program to save internet radio to the device is written in Java, however I am not able to run it either using WINE or using Open JDK.
The Carmen Player does work well with Banshee, it is the internet radio that is not working.
I have Ubuntu 9.10 dual booting with Windows7.My ext3 /home is mounted as F: in windows.I share a firefox profile between them so that when i am in Windows my firefox uses the same profile as it does when in Ubuntu. It all worked great until recently. I am unable to save files by right clicking and save as. In the config i am unable to set a directory to save to. It neer asks me where to save to. Just nothing happens. some off my book marks are all messed up as well, my rss feeds have the same post on some random website every time i log on and i have to manually refresh to get the correct feeds back. I am unable to delete the random bookmark.
View 1 Replies View Relatedmy mediacenter is attached to an beamer with the optimal resolution of 1280*720 ubuntu 10.04 doesnt offer me this revolution (on my intel 915 graphis controller). this means i have to add this resolution to the possible resolutions. first i used cvt
Code:
cvt 1280 720 60
and got this result:
Quote:
# 1280x720 59.86 Hz (CVT 0.92M9) hsync: 44.77 kHz; pclk: 74.50 MHz
Modeline "1280x720_60.00" 74.50 1280 1344 1472 1664 720 723 728 748 -hsync +vsync
then i added this to xrandr
Code:
xrandr --verbose --newmode "1280x720" 74.50 1280 1344 1472 1664 720 723 728 748 -hsync +vsync
and
Code:
xrandr --verbose --addmode VGA1 1280x720
now i can select and use the new resolution - until next reboot. after an reboot 1280x720 is again not available. even if i work with sudo - the resolution isnt there....
I installed CentOS 5.6 (kernel: 2.6.18-238.12.1.el5) with X Window on my HP Compaq 6710b. I also downloaded the firmware iwl3945 for my Intel Pro Wireless 3945 and manually installed it, reloaded the iwl3945 module and enabled NetworkManager. I could then get the wireless network connection worked on my graphical environment. I installed additional software manually by using the terminal window (Applications --> Accessories --> Terminal) and everything worked perfectly.
However, when I switched to text-based environment by issuing the commend "sudo init 3" (changing the user level) and logging in as root, I could not get any internet connection. I tried to use lynx and I got the error message: "Unable to connect to remote host". I am a complete newbie in Linux and I tried to google and search for solution within centos.org but I could not find.
Config a CentOS iptables.I issued some iptables rules.the rules were effective at once. Then, I came with a "iptables-save", but the "/etc/sysconfig/iptables" file hasn't been updated, it still loads the defaults rules with CentOS after reboot.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm working on a Soekris net4801 that is running an unknown distro of Linux. The kernel is 2.4.29, and iptables is v1.3.4.
I can't work out how to save the iptables. I searched the whole system for files/folders containing the name "iptables" and got 3 results:
/user/local/lib/iptables
/sbin/iptables
/lib/iptables
I've tried iptables save, iptables-save and iptables save active.
"iptables save" and "iptables save active" give me an invalid argument error. "iptables-save" isn't a valid command. "iptables --help" gives me a list of valid switches, none of which have to do with saving.
how I can save the iptables?
The new feature in Gimp 2.7 that attaches basic text formatting options (bold, italicunderline, strike-through) to the active text box is either buggy or just bad design. The text edit buttons are actually being placed on top of the text box (which contains text) instead of off to the side, and that is causing me to not be able to see the text.See screenshot for example:GIMP version: 2.7.1Am I doing something wrong or are others experiencing this too?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI put a text file on my desktop and added a couple lines of text with gedit. File type shows text/plain. Double-click opens the file in gedit which is what I want. I'm using the file to temporarily hold some snips of code that I copy from file to file, but when I copy some html into the file and save it, now file properties show it's text/html and a double-click opens the file in firefox, which isn't what I want. Is there some way to keep the file type from changing itself?

View 1 Replies View Relatedi am on processing text tasks And i found that if you assign a text to a variable is chomp'ed automatically the newline
Code:
variable=$(cat file.txt)
The problem is i can only access the items/lines using:
Code:
for line in $variable
do
echo $line
# Other commands
done
how do i convert this to an indexed array. More importantly, how do i get access to individual $line[0], ..., $line[n] Another thing, if the file.txt, has lines with spaces it is a mess using the for...in..., but echoing prints line by line...o_0
