i use ubuntu with gnome environment but i installed kde to try it , i find not interesting , i want to remove kde , i try to remove kde but not success , i want to remove it WIT his program ,OR What the best way to remove kde environment full with his program.

I'd rather a absolute gnome's environment without any KDE efficacious.
I'd rather to remove all KDE's program from my source.list if possible.
I get this when I try to uninstall anything (Synaptic, Software Store, doesn't matter) code...

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm unable to change startup programs. If I try and add or remove a program, any changes I have made seem to undo themselves. I suspect it might have something to do with being unable to save the session, but I really don't have a clue.
Just in case it makes a difference: I'm actually running Mint (Helena).
I am using ubuntu 10.4 and cannot find add/remove programs in applications at all, it just isn't listed there. Is there anyway for me to download it. I've looked in software centre and cannot see it.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm a new Fedora user and I having difficulty with the product.I downloaded both the live cd and dvd of F13. I installed F13 from the live cd and after it completed I created my user name and then rebooted. Once I logged in I went to Administration -> add/remove program. I then clicked on package collections and ticked off the ones that I wanted. I then clicked on the APPLY button and I noticed that in the lower left corner of the screen (below the left panel and just above the Help button) it said Running and then nothing. If I attempt to close the screen it says that all selections will be lost. I also went back and set the filter to list "all installed" and the programs that I had selected were in the list.I then decided to try the dvd iso, so I blew everything away and installed F13 from there, but I encountered the same thing.So I'm at a loss what I'm doing incorrectly

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've just did a fresh install of Xubuntu 9.10 x86 in a 4 gig pendrive.Just one ext4 partition for / and /home and a swap partition. Only one user created during installation.Everything's fine so far except for two things:-If I launch synaptic from the start menu, it asks for my password which I type in or even copy-paste to be sure.Strangely it always comes back saying incorrect password. If I open a terminal and call "sudo synaptic" and type in my password when prompted, the application shows up fine. Again if I do the same via the Run dialog (alt+F2), that is "sudo synaptic", nothing comes up. If I just type "synaptic", a pop up says that as a user I won't be able to install anything and blah-blah, and the application displays properly
View 4 Replies View RelatedIn both of these areas, when I actually go to "Install" the things, whether it be adding or removing programs, or doing the Update Manager, I get the same error as soon as I click "Install," and it fails to install any selected programs/updates.
Here is the following error:
E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.
I have not been able to find this "sudo dpkg" file to manually run.
I am using Ubuntu Maverick and I wanted to try the xubuntu desktop environment, so I installed xubuntu-desktop package from synaptic package manager. There were many programs automatically installed with the xubuntu-desktop.After trying the xubuntu desktop, I didn't like it and removed it from synaptic package manager but it didn't remove the programs which were automatically installed with it.Is there any way to remove those programs without having to remove them one by one?

However, when I try to get more programs it says that it cannot find the sources, and a cache reload will fix it. I wasn't sure at first what that ment, being a begginer, but I think it means going into system-refresh package lists. So I do that,ut it still wont give me the program list. When I try to remove juK or Dragon Player, they do not show up in pkgtool list. Dragon Player will not now run from the multimedia list and JuK can't run after starting because it is missing files which were removed by pkgtool above. How do I now go about finding and removing these last two?
Installed Fedora 14 32-bit with gnome on an older laptop for my son (want to start him early learning multiple OS's). the wireless card is not working (don't know why yet) but in the mean time I wanted to just add/remove software right from the installation media (full DVD). However, when I open system -> administration -> add/remove software, nothing is available. I've searched the forum, but nothing answers my question. We know the security risk posed by suid, sgid.I'm looking to remove the suid bits from all programs that do not absolutely need it.
This command:

For which of these programs can I safely remove the suid bit? I don't want to break my system by modifying a program that the system needs.

The only MS program I need on my computer is Word 2007 for the equation editor to write/edit files from work. So after installing Wine I installed MSOffice2007. Excel worked OK (although I don't need it - I am perfectly happy with the Libre Office spreadsheet). Word however froze each time so I tried to uninstall and reinstall it. However I always got an error message when trying to uninstall with Wine. So I followed the advice of some strands in this forum and deleted the Program Files folder from the ~.wine directory. However the menus are still in Wine/Programs/Microsoft Office even though they lead to nowhere. I tried to reinstall but still I nothing happened. I presume the old entries still lead to the position where previously the .exe files were located. Now my question is either how can I remove these menu entries and try installing again - or even better - is there a Linux programme that can read/edit the equations written in Word 2007?
